Job Description: Training and Events Officer

The Training and Events Officer will play a key role developing and delivering high quality professional development, training, events, workshops to SLA members and wider audiences. The postholder will develop inspirational, insightful and innovative routes to supporting SLA members to deliver on their school library provision remit, enabling children and young people to reach their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about school libraries, education and training.

You will work with the CEO, SLA colleagues and key stakeholders to develop and deliver a comprehensive training offer, including leading on logistics planning and delivery of our flagship annual conference. In addition, you will develop and maintain a calendar of exciting events and opportunities to share knowledge and insight, working with colleagues to ensure the offer is timely and informative. A confident facilitator and coordinator, you will be comfortable leading on training delivery, or recruiting and working with external facilitators in order to achieve specific outcomes.  Creative, with a flair for spotting opportunities for professional development, you will have a keen eye for detail and an ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines. Resource creation will be second-nature to you and you’ll be comfortable writing for adults and children, and young people.

Duties include:

• Logistics planning and delivery of the flagship event, SLA Annual Conference (currently called the Weekend Course) providing high quality professional development and networking opportunities to members 
• With CEO and key stakeholders, supporting the development of a comprehensive, engaging and exciting conference programme and recruit 40 exhibitors, plus event speakers as needed
• Supporting development of the training strategy working with the CEO to define aims and objectives
• Developing and maintaining a calendar of training, workshops and events aligned with the training strategy, working with the CEO and SLA colleagues, in particular the Outreach Support Officer
• Creation of supporting resources, toolkits and lesson plans to increase training engagement and impact

• Delivering and facilitating inspirational and engaging training and events as required (online and in person)

• Developing relationships with partners to produce high quality webinars, training and online events – including SLA members, funders, external stakeholders
• Exploring and evaluating business and funded models for training and events to ensure an income stream
• Working with external facilitators, recruiting them as needed, to deliver training and workshops, ensuring delivery is aligned with SLA requirements and outcomes
• Managing all training and events administration, planning and logistics

• Working with the Marketing and Communications Officer and Sales and Membership Officer, to ensure effective communication and promotion of training and events, providing timely information and updates as needed 
• Monitoring and evaluation of all training and events to ensure a high-quality offer, reach and impact that delivers on the SLA’s mission, applying learnings as needed

• Generating all event reports and updates as needed for internal and external use 
• Contribute to relevant SLA communications including TSL, newsletters and promotional materials

All team members contribute to office admin, maintaining member data and general office support.

To be successful in this role you should ideally demonstrate:

· experience of working in school libraries, the education sector and a strong understanding of the education landscape

· experience developing and delivering inspirational training, to small and large groups, both online and in person

· understanding of what works (and what doesn’t) for different formats and types of training and using evaluation to establish impact

· experience creating training resources, toolkits and teaching and learning resources

· a clear understanding of the curriculum and teaching and learning outcomes

· confidence in developing relationships with a variety of stakeholders

An understanding of business models in relation to training will be an advantage, as will experience planning events. Building relationships with all stakeholders will be an important part of this role.

The salary for this position is £21,945.95 (FTE £29,000) for 28 hours per week, and comes with a 6% employer pension contribution.

The Role

The Media Manager plays a central role at our charity, working closely with the Head of Media and Media Officer to manage the public relations function. You will be responsible for helping to develop and execute national and regional media campaigns to help people better understand our mission and motivate support.

The role is a hybrid of office and home working, requiring occasional meetings in the midlands and/or London. The frequency and location of meetings can be flexible, depending on the location and preferences of the successful candidate.

Main duties include:

Job Profile

CAFOD’s mission in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and equip Catholics to actively engage in the Church’s efforts to overcome poverty and injustice. Our regional teams focus on recruiting and supporting a dedicated group of volunteers within parish and school communities, empowering them to educate, engage, and inspire others to act in solidarity for the common good. Regional teams also collaborate with clergy and other representatives across the Catholic community to ensure CAFOD’s volunteer programme is aligned with faith life.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide administrative and communications support to the Community Participation Coordinators across England and Wales, with a focus on the West & Wales region as the first point of contact. The Community Engagement Officer is an essential role in fostering strong relationships with current and prospective members of the School Library Association community. Branch network and member support

• Work with the CEO to develop the SLA Branch Network and accompanying strategies
• Identify opportunities for developing initiatives to grow and develop the Branch network community, that will deliver on the SLA mission
• Develop strong relationships with local, regional and national stakeholders to support network growth and enable members to take full advantage of all relevant opportunities available to them

Outreach and communications

As our philanthropy coordinator, you will play a key role in building new partnerships with philanthropists and high-net-worth individuals, with an immediate focus on the UK, US, and Europe. Myeloma UK is looking for a motivated and highly proactive Senior Policy Officer to join our Patient Advocacy team within the wider Research and Advocacy directorate. 

You will have experience in analysing, developing, and communicating complex policy issues, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritise a fast-moving and wide-ranging workload.

You will also have experience working collaboratively and building relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 

You will have the ability to present findings and recommendations to a range of audiences and produce high-quality succinct briefings in a timely fashion, underpinned by evidence.

Empathy and sensitivity are required to work closely with patients and their families and friends.

Experience in the health charity sector, public/patient engagement work, and working on the National Institute of Health Care Excellence (NICE) and Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) consultation processes would be beneficial but not essential.

About the role

As Senior Policy Officer you will be part of the Patient Advocacy team who work to ensure that the patient voice is heard and acted upon by UK and devolved nations healthcare policy decision makers. You will represent the charity externally including national meetings with senior healthcare decision makers.

Your role is vital to developing strategic approaches to health technology appraisals (HTA), regulatory pathways (MHRA), clinical development programmes (academic and industry clinical trials) and commissioning routes to broaden access to new myeloma drug therapies and diagnostic technologies.

You will apply your skills flexibly across key policy areas including access to treatment, patient voice, stakeholder engagement and general healthcare policy and work with colleagues in communications and fundraising to make sure our supporters and the wider myeloma community understand the positive impact we make.

Legacy Officer (Maternity Cover)

Role Summary:

As part of the Major Gifts and Planned Giving team, this role is responsible for managing a caseload of approximately 80 legacy estates, including pecuniary, specific, residuary and life interest estates. The Legacy Officer will also assist the team with legacy enquiries and pledges, supporting donors on their legacy journey, as well as managing PETA’s free will services.

Position Objective:

• Ensure that gifts in wills to PETA are handled appropriately, sensitively and efficiently, maximising legacy income to support PETA’s mission to protect animals.
• Effectively communicate PETA’s mission to potential legacy supporters, and deal with enquiries from supporters in a timely manner.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Augustus Club

• Administer legacies in a professional and approachable manner, to include correspondence with solicitors and other interested parties
• Maintain departmental information, files, and records related to legacy estates
• Act as the point of contact and grow and mature relationships with stakeholders and external groups in order to attain information needed to carry out the role
• Work with various stakeholders on contested legacies, collaborating with other charities where needed
• Be able to communicate to supporters how important and desirable legacies are to PETA
• Respond to enquiries and requests for assistance from Augustus Club members and planned-giving prospects
• Document pertinent information about planned-giving members for the purpose of enhancing and building relationships
• Remain current on estate-planning practices as well as fundraising techniques and methods used in the non-profit sector, attending professional training seminars as needed
• Keep up to date on probate and tax laws, informing the team of any changes

Other

• Maintain a clear understanding of – and the ability to articulate – PETA's objectives as well as details about specific global PETA programmes
• Assist in the training of new major gifts and/or planned giving assistants
• Maintain and expand knowledge of relevant departmental software (e.g. Revolution Online, ResearchPoint, Raiser's Edge, and Convio) in order to improve communication with donors
• Assist with the preparation and proofreading of mailings
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor
• Maintain strict confidentiality at all times

Qualifications:

• Minimum of one year of planned-giving or other development experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
• Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to prepare professional business communications
• Proven ability to organise and manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively
• Proven ability to use initiative and work independently
• Proven experience in legacy fundraising and administration
• Ability to insert files into databases using high levels of precision and attention to detail while maintaining confidentiality
• Commitment to PETA's objectives
• Adherence to a vegan lifestyle strongly preferred
