Katherine Low Settlement is a busy, local charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation.

We run a range of our own community services to support local older people and children, young people, and their families from refugee communities. We campaign for social change. We incubate and support other charities and social businesses to thrive. Each week we work with 30+ charities and community groups supporting more than 1,000 people.

Katherine Low Settlement’s work with older people 

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. We provide, often in partnership, a range of projects and activities for older people including health and wellbeing; creative arts; intergenerational work; connecting people and trips/outings. 

Our services include Battersea Bites, Age Well and Core social activities and digital inclusion.

We work with people 50+ to: 

• Encourage active and independent living 

• Reduce isolation and loneliness 

• Improve well-being and prevent ill-health 

• Engage members to be dynamic and contributing members of the Wandsworth community.

Key Objectives for this Role 

Oversee the day-to-day running of our Battersea Bites Programme that includes a lunch club for people 50+ that runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and a healthy eating session on Mondays. This includes leading in the planning, shopping and preparation and provision of meals, the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen including overseeing a team of volunteers and ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements. 

Roles & Responsibilities 

Planning 

• Plan and develop a monthly lunch service menu, a month in advance, using creative license to provide nutritious, varied, and satisfying meals that meet diverse dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, cultural needs, vegetarian/vegan options) while strictly adhering to Health & Safety and food hygiene regulations. 

• Develop ideas for Battersea Bites Healthy cook and eat/ other sessions with the Age Well Team.

• Handle purchases and expense tracking using the Soldo card, ensuring full compliance with the bank card usage policy, and submitting all receipts and records promptly and accurately for financial oversight and reporting, for which training can be provided.

• Create several themed menus throughout the year which will engage members. For example, a Summer Lunch, an Afternoon Tea, etc.

• Support the planning of the older people’s lunch club with older people themselves

• Support the Elders team to welcome and support new members to feel part of the programme. 

Delivery 

• Complete a weekly food shop either online (we currently use Asda delivery service) or locally, buying fresh ingredients weekly which fall within the financial budget. 

• Prepare, cook and serve healthy meals, ensuring dietary needs are met 

• Undertake stock control such as stock rotation, ensuring all food items are labelled with expiry dates and disposed of when necessary. 

• Ensure all equipment is ready and set up for the lunch club service. 

• Ensure the security of the kitchen and store cupboards to provide a safe working environment. (Our cupboards are locked.)

• To ensure routine day-to-day as well as specialised cleaning of kitchen equipment, work surfaces, kitchen floors and storage areas. 

• Keep accurate and up-to-date records, including the health and safety folder containing opening and closing checks. Training can be provided.

• Ensure your hygiene and cleanliness are of the highest standard, and those of anyone entering the kitchen, including volunteers, are suitably dressed and uphold the same standards 

• Be part of and work closely with the Elders Team at KLS 

• Support elders who attend the club so that the sessions are safe and enjoyable for them.

• Inform the Manager (or in their absence the Head of Service) of any concerning incidents, compliments, complaints or accidents (including safeguarding issues).

• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills by quickly and calmly addressing kitchen challenges and ensuring smooth meal preparation under pressure.

• Take part in the monitoring and evaluation of the programme under the guidance of the Managers of the 50+ programme

• Coordinate with staff and volunteers to ensure efficient meal service.

• To attend any relevant training sessions to ensure that you are fully equipped to perform your role effectively

• To actively assist in the continuation of our high food hygiene rating

• Have acquired or are willing to Level 2 and Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate

• Actively participate in meetings such as supervision and appraisals, and staff meetings. The manager reviews progress, reflects on goals, and completes agreed actions and tasks within set deadlines to support ongoing development and programme success.

Coordination of Battersea Bites Volunteers 

• Form and build positive working relationships with volunteers who work within Battersea Bites. 

• Take responsibility for coordinating individual volunteers and respond effectively to their feedback, and report any concerns to the Core Manager.

Undertake Other Duties

• To comply with any reasonable request from KLS Management to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.

Person Specification 

Essential Experience & Skills

• Track record of catering and basic cooking
• Proven experience of working or volunteering with older and/or vulnerable people in community settings
• Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
• Understanding of healthy eating and nutrition
• Full understanding of health & safety, including food hygiene (though training is also provided)
• Personal attributes to include being caring and compassionate / hard working / organised / creative / take initiative / reliable / ability to work under pressure

The Role

Working closely with the eLearning Developer, IT Team, wider organisation and suppliers, you will maintain the LMS and training systems, and create, develop, build and maintain e-Learning courses and content.

Main duties include:

• Create and maintain high quality eLearning courses and content
• Suggest creative ideas for the design of online course material
• Evaluate eLearning customer feedback and use it to inform future design and development.
• Administer the learning management system (LMS) including maintaining user data.
• Problem resolution, act as first line support for LMS issues

How are staff supported to work remotely?  

VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community.

Job Summary

They are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Project Worker to join their team. As the Project Worker, you will play a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals who are homeless and vulnerably housed.

You will contribute to the daily activities, such as serving food and drinks, as well as the successful implementation of their support groups and programmes. Working with a small team of staff and volunteers, you will help address the immediate needs of homeless individuals, while promoting long-term solutions and empowerment.

Responsibilities

• Offer emotional support, guidance, and advocacy to help meet the immediate needs of individuals attending the Centre, as well as assisting them with navigating through their homelessness journey.
• Empower individuals through direct 1-1 support as well as groups, providing guidance and life skills.
• Contribute to the daily delivery of the Centre offer including organising, preparing and serving meals and providing access to provisions including washing and laundry facilities.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes, incidents and attendance records, whilst ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality policies.
• Work with multiple agencies based both at the Centre and externally to ensure effective collaborative working.
• Identify and coordinate appropriate group sessions that provide support and encourage the growth of networks and peer support.
• Provide cover for the running of the Centre in the absence of management, including the opening and closing of the building.

Experience

• Previous experience in a similar role within a charity or with working with vulnerable people is desirable.

The Role

As our Fundraising and Events Assistant you will contribute to Yorkshire Cancer Research’s mission by enhancing brand awareness through supporting the Marketing and Fundraising teams and expanding regional outreach by delivering key events and campaigns throughout the year. Reporting to the Community and Events Fundraising Manager, you will build strong relationships with event participants and fundraisers through excellent communication and customer service. • Be the fundraisers’ representative and ‘champion’, working to deliver first class information about events, the charity and how money raised will help.
• Support event participants and fundraisers set up online giving pages, providing guidance, sending out merchandise and practical support as necessary.
• Keep the CRM database up to date, recording every contact with a supporter accurately and adhering to data protection regulations.
•  Support the event planning process by considering participant information needs pre-event, during and post-event. Proactively share ideas for the ideal stewardship (customer journey) with the events and marketing teams to secure their input and support.
• Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure letters, leaflets and other communications (sent by email and/or post) accurately reflect the brand identity, convey key messages and are sent at the most appropriate times/touchpoints.
• Be responsible for stock control, maintaining an accurate inventory of all event equipment and its whereabouts, keep the events section of the stock cupboard tidy.
• Attend a number of Yorkshire Cancer Research and Community Fundraising events each year to support the successful delivery of the event and to gain an understanding of the needs and feedback of participants and their supporters.
• Maintain a record of event participant and fundraising data (sign-ups, attendees, funds raised, etc) and share with the wider team. 
• Assist the corporate managers with identifying new corporate relationships.
• Obtain and file photo permissions from events and community fundraisers in line with the charity’s procedures and GDPR obligations and highlight any potential PR opportunities.

About the role

You will be the local leader for Shelter’s Community Services, leading a multidisciplinary team in implementing Shelter’s strategy locally, delivering the local response to the housing emergency and empowering the local community in Sheffield to fight for home.

Alongside this, you will plan and implement resourcing plans for your Hub, including staffing, volunteers and engaging people with lived experience and will manage the Hub Leadership team. Ensuring there are multiple and ongoing opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness and bad housing to be part of Hub development, activities and learning is a key element of this role, as well as upholding and promoting a learning culture with the Hub.

About you

A natural leader, who can inspire, others to advocate for change, you will have a proven working knowledge of homelessness, housing and related issues affecting local communities. You will possess sound experience of managing and delivering contracts, partnerships and services along with experience of being involved in implementing and reviewing change management, whilst demonstrating excellent budgeting and financial reporting skills.

The ability to proactively develop and maintain key relationships and having impressive analytical skills to use insight and evidence to present data, manage performance and to identify and implement systems change are vital to this role, as are impressive interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nurturing Natural Connections 

Our client is looking for a passionate and driven person to habitat restoration, creation and enhancement activities on their owned greenspaces within the Nurturing Natural Connections (NNC) project, working closely with the Cumbernauld Reserves Manager, and project partners, and with the help of volunteers. 

Building on the success of previous projects, this project continues to realise the Cumbernauld Living Landscape long-term vision to improve Cumbernauld’s green spaces for both people and wildlife, helping everyone in the community connect with the nature on their doorstep. 

The candidate: 

The successful candidate will have a Higher Education qualification in environmental land management (Wildlife conservation/agriculture) and at least two years’ experience of wildlife reserve management and demonstrable track record in the environmental land management sector. 

Main Objectives 

The main objectives of the role are: 

Habitat management 

• Support delivery of habitat works, including woodland restocking towards native semi-natural woodland, creation and enhancement of species-rich grasslands and enhancing riparian corridors. 

• Monitor and evaluate (M&E) the delivery of these works including details of their successes and challenges. 

• Undertake and manage the maintenance of tools and equipment for relevant sites, including machinery, to ensure safe and efficient operation. 

• Respond to severe weather events with reactive remedial works as required e.g. clearing fallen trees and reinstating ground damaged by flooding. 

Health and Safety 

• Ensure compliance with health and safety, including safe working practices, volunteer safety, premises safety, and site safety. 

• Ensure all work by project staff, and volunteers is carried out in a safe manner, and in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, policies, activity risk assessments and best practice guidance. 

Volunteer recruitment 

• Support the recruitment of volunteers and identify and promote volunteer opportunities within Cumbernauld Living Landscape. 

• Work with individual volunteers and volunteer groups (including corporate groups) so that their contributions and experiences are maximised and, where required, organise and mentor volunteers ensuring that they receive support and appropriate training. 

Wider project work 

• Support the team’s wider communications plan with blogs and social media content.

About the Role:
