Role purpose

This role would suit someone with at least 2 years’ experience in a charity finance role, who has experience or knowledge of all the core accounts department processes and some understanding of different charity income streams. You might be studying for an accounting qualification (e.g. AAT or ACCA) or be qualified by experience.

A training package may be available for an applicable accounting qualification.

Responsibilities

• Day to day management and systems administration of Xero accounting software, expenses software (ExpenseIn), and other linked financial applications.
• Carry out monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, debtors and creditors, and set up payment runs.
• Prepare monthly management accounts journals (prepayments, accruals, depreciation, deferred and accrued income) and control account reconciliations.
• Being the systems administrator for the Fundraising CRM system (Donorfy) and linked platforms and applications (e.g. JustGiving, Stripe, EventBright).
• Database management of Donorfy and linked platforms and applications.
• Reconcile data between Donorfy and Xero, and where necessary, with other linked platforms and applications.
• Ensure Gift Aid returns are correctly submitted to HMRC (via Donorfy)
• Support with the development and implementation of new systems and procedures.
• Provide training and induction to new joiners in using Donorfy and ExpenseIn as well as for any other relevant platforms and applications.
• Business partnering - provide day to day support to the wider organisation with finance and fundraising system queries, payment information, and supplier queries.
• Working with budget holders to provide transaction reports, income and expenditure reports, and updates on payments from finance and fundraising systems to assist them to manage their project budgets.
• Assist Finance Director and Fundraising team where necessary with financial reporting to funders.

Skills/ experience

Essential

• Proven experience in all areas of accounts - purchase and sales ledger, banking and cash management, basic management accounts.
• Experience of Xero or similar cloud-based finance system.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly excel and an ability to quickly learn new systems.

Desirable

• Accountancy qualification or studying for (e.g. AAT, ACCA).
• Experience of Donorfy or similar CRM system.
• Experience of dealing with charitable income and an understanding of how to account for restricted grants.
• Experience of liaising with auditors and other external stakeholders.

ABOUT US
The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity.  We want to see a world where trees and woods thrive for people and nature. The Trust engages and inspires people to make a difference in tackling the nature and climate crises, helping protect, restore and create our vital woods and trees.  

THE ROLE
The Engagement and Communications Officer (ECO) is part of an exciting new ‘Building Capacity Project’ which seeks to develop the skills and capacity of communities on the west coast of Scotland to deliver the aims of the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest i.e. protect and restore Scotland’s globally important temperate rainforest. The Woodland Trust has secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) for this project's initial two-year ‘development’ phase.

The ECO will support the Project Development Manager, project team members and local staff working in three landscape-scale project ‘hubs’ (in Argyll, Morvern and Torridon). The role will provide opportunities for audiences to connect with Scotland’s rainforest and build the skills and capacity needed to sustainably restore it. This involves working with communities, organisations and specialists to a) raise awareness of Scotland’s rainforest, b) facilitate volunteering, on-the-job training and the sharing of learning about how to restore it, and c) inspire a long-term commitment to look after it.  

The ECO will plan and deliver communications and engagement activities during the project's development phase, and support the Project Development Manager to create a comprehensive activity plan for the delivery phase.  This includes surveying audiences to benchmark attitudes; managing a launch event; using existing (or establishing new) local and regional communication channels to reach audiences and share progress; co-developing with partners a series of meaningful engagement opportunities; supporting project ‘hubs’ to develop their own communications and engagement plans and monitoring the impact of project activities.

This is an 18-month fixed-term position. Should our funding bid for the subsequent five-year ‘delivery’ phase be successful, we hope the ECO will remain in post to support the delivery of these plans. 

THE CANDIDATE
You will have experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders including community organisations and are comfortable collaborating and engaging effectively for different outcomes e.g. learning, consultation or facilitation. 

You will be able to confidently organise and deliver a range of events from online webinars to community gatherings; have working knowledge of using social media for marketing, capturing interesting content and writing engaging stories, and you’ll be happy self-managing a diverse and varied workload. 

Plus you’ll have experience working as part of a project team, supporting funding bids, budgeting for, and reporting on the impact of your activity. Oh and have a genuine interest in Scotland’s rainforest of course!

A full UK driving licence is required so you can travel across the west coast when required. Access to your own vehicle would be ideal.

About the role

In this role, you will play a vital part in the RCOG’s mission to improve the lives of women and girls around the world, through the delivery of creative communications campaigns and high-impact media stories. You will promote our guidelines, research and reports to support their use around the world to deliver high quality, safe and compassionate care for women.

Leading our busy press office, you will have opportunities to shape the media agenda on critical women’s health issues and champion the voices of women and girls through creative story-telling. Your social media expertise will ensure we are effectively listening to and engaging our members, partners and the public.

You will enjoy building and managing relationships with stakeholders to deliver opportunities for partnership working – including national health organisations, other Royal Colleges and women’s health charities. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will line manage our Senior Media and Communications Officer and work closely with colleagues in our policy, public affairs and marketing teams to help ensure the College’s external affairs work is integrated, coherent and impactful.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of our annual media and communications plan, including priority campaigns in partnership with marketing, policy and public affairs colleagues
• Oversee our busy press office, ensuring we maintain strong media relations and are achieving high impact coverage on College priorities
• Deliver proactive external communications to promote awareness and impact of RCOG programmes, projects and products
• Ensure we are effectively using our social media and digital channels to listen, engage and influence, including production of videos, podcasts and webinars, etc.
• Build strong relationships with partners and stakeholders to gather intelligence and identify partnership opportunities
• Lead on ensuring the RCOG maintains effective communications and media processes, including forward planning tools, media logs, activity summaries, and evaluation reports.

To lead the development and delivery of Rewilding Britain's digital communications output, to inform, engage and activate audiences in support of our charitable aims.

Objectives of the role: 

Social media

• In line with our organisational objectives, lead on building our profile, reputation and engagement on social media with key audiences.

• Plan and deliver inspiring and effective social media content, including as part of engagement campaigns, fundraising appeals, and initiative launches, and in support of our partners and members. 

• Ensure that Rewilding Britain is using the best possible tools and techniques, by drawing on your own knowledge of the digital landscape and trends and staying up to date with changing trends.

• Guide colleagues across the organisation to capture and create social content in order to maximise opportunities to engage others with rewilding

• Take responsibility for monitoring social media and community building, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to social media enquiries. 

• Support with the development of social media and other digital policies and style guides. 
   

Email marketing

• Develop and deliver a schedule of email marketing for the organisation, including for fundraising and political engagement campaigns.

• Optimise email marketing by A/B testing content regularly to maximise performance and by making design and content improvements as the digital landscape evolves. 

• Use audience segmentation in support of campaigns, drawing on data from our CRM.

Terms and conditions and staff benefits

This role is as maternity cover (9 months with possibility of extension).

This is a full time 5 day (35 hour) a week position, but we are open to a conversation with candidates who are seeking a role of 28-35 hours a week.

This role plays a pivotal part in planning and delivering marketing and communications activities to key audiences, such as supporters, volunteers, journalists, ambassadors and staff. The duties of the role include writing, editing, co-ordinating and publishing content across various channels, including Sands’ website, social media, email, and print and online marketing materials. In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.   

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding what works and working for change – scaling up and spreading the practices that make a difference.    

Our Change team does this by building excellent relationships and sharing evidence of what works with organisations and key individuals across the public, private, third sectors and local communities. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, proactive and highly organised Change and Events Officer to join our Change team to help us fulfil our mission.    

 Key responsibilities  

Most fundamentally, your job is to work as a member of our Change team to make sure we’re excellent at running events and managing relationships with key stakeholders. You’ll make sure the team is incredibly organised and has the support it needs to work effectively. Key responsibilities:  

• Event Organising. Help to organise events, from small roundtables to large in person conferences. You will help make sure events run brilliantly, from booking venues to managing invites and organising materials.   

• External Relationship Management Support. Provide support to the team in managing external relationships by scheduling meetings, organising workshops and developing materials.

The Project Support Officer will support our Programmes Team with activity related to project delivery while members of the team are on maternity leave. The postholder will be responsible for completing a variety of project delivery tasks that support the smooth running of our online mentoring. These tasks include administrative support through our online mentoring platform, data entry and data monitoring, training our volunteers to be mentors and inducting young people onto our programmes.
