District Secretary for Administration and Compliance

This is a senior leadership position in a merged organisation.

1. Collaboration with the District Chair and the District Secretary for Ministries & Vocations in the leadership of the District, and promoting the values of the District in all work practice.
2. Collaboration with the Mission Area Leads to facilitate support of the circuits in relation to the responsibilities of administration and compliance issues.
3. Responsibility for compliance with all relevant legal, financial, and governance matters, including compliance with the relevant parts of The Constitutional Practice and Disicipline of the Methodist Church, including:
   1. budget and accounting, in partnership with the District Treasurer;
   2. data protection;
   3. lay employment processes;
   4. safeguarding.
4. Working with the District Safeguarding Officers, the District Safeguarding Group and others to ensure safeguarding processes for the District are robust and effective.
5. Responsibility, together with relevant District officers and bodies, for strategy for property and finance across the District, and for its implementation.
6. Enabling the District Property Consents group to fulfil their responsibilities regarding property matters within the District.
7. Coordinating the District Grants Policy and its implementation through the District Grants Committee.
8. Ensuring that the District’s responsibilities for Reconciliation and Complaints are fulfilled, including liaising with the other District Leaders and ensuring the appointment and functioning of the District Local Complaints Officer and District Reconciliation and Complaints Support Group(s).
9. Collaboration with the District Chair and others to ensure good practice in internal and external communication, including through the District Communications Officer.
10. Engagement with the District Policy Committee and the District Scrutiny Group processes and meetings.
11. Fostering good and collaborative working relationships with holders of relevant district volunteer posts.
12. Other areas of responsibility as agreed and assigned by the Trustees.

The events will cover the following themes: saving and sharing energy, insulation, solar and batteries, renewable heat, funding energy efficiency measures, creating healthy and mould-free homes etc.

You are organised with an attention to detail and respect for the importance of collecting data to enable monitoring and evaluation of the project.  You want to improve the events by collecting and listening to feedback and implementing improvements. You value the input of our service users, volunteers and staff team into the design of the events programme.

Responsibilities

- Work in collaboration with the ESC team and stakeholders to design a programme of inspiring energy and climate themed events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne, and Wealden, reaching a total of 1000 residents across the year.

- Create engagement opportunities for your team at the events and activities of other organisations and local groups by networking and working with the Communications and Marketing person to promote our services.

- Find interesting speakers and organisations to participate in our events.

- Create public events for our No One Left Behind project, finding new, exciting ways to engage the public in conversation about energy and climate topics.

- Manage the administration and logistics of the events, including room bookings, ticket booking processes, etc.

- Look for opportunities to invite our funder along to events and participate in the activities.

- Manage relationships with staff team and volunteer Energy Champions on local events.

- Create event plans and risk assessments for each event.

- Work with the Marketing and Communications Officer and local volunteers to plan PR and promotion of events to agreed timelines.

- Create and work to agreed budgets.

- Ensure you are collecting the data needed to monitor and evaluate the project.

- Create inclusivity in the event registration and attendance experience to support people with a variety of needs.

- Ensure events feed into the wider work and services of Energise Sussex Coast.

- Provide event reports to manager detailing the number of attendees, write-up of the event, and feedback.

- Provide general assistance with ESC events and projects as required.

- Adhere to Energise Sussex Coast’s policies around safeguarding, data protection, etc.

- Attend monthly in-person team meetings in Hastings.

Key Details

• Hours: 30 hours a week, flexible working. Will include some evening and weekend work.
• Job location: Home based (or optional hot desk in Hastings) with regular events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne and Wealden. Please note, travel costs to the events will only be paid from a local East Sussex postcode, we would not be able to cover the cost of travelling to events from London or further afield.

• Job Title: Justice Programme Manager
• Location: Remote/Hybrid/Nottingham
• Salary: £40,000 p/a based on 35 hours per week

Headway is seeking a new Justice Programme Manager who will expand the current services to have a greater impact on police and probation services, improving knowledge and understanding and the support offenders with brain injuries receive.
We want someone who can both oversee the existing projects, such as our brain injury ID cards, whilst expanding the services in line with our new strategy, due to launch in the summer of 2024.

What will you do:

• Develop and implement a strategy for Headway’s work within the criminal justice system.
• Work with and develop key relationships across, police, probation services to improve knowledge and systems for offenders with brain injuries.
• Develop new justice related projects, including working with Headway’s fundraising team, to generate new income to expand the services.
• Work with the network of local Headway charities, to expand their work, within the justice system.
• Manage and deliver Headway’s justice related training initiatives.
• Oversee the successful delivery of Headway UK’s Brain Injury ID Card, including the line management of the project lead.

Senior Project Manager - Minsmere Mitigation

This is a fixed-term, full-time contract for 36 months for 37.5 hours per week.  The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

We are looking for an energetic, insightful and organised person to help us deliver a resilience project to mitigate the impacts of the Sizewell C development on the visitor experience at RSPB Minsmere.

What’s the role about?

This is a stimulating role which represents an important opportunity to make a significant and direct contribution to enhancing the visitor infrastructure at a flagship RSPB reserve and a key visitor destination on the Suffolk Coast. We’re looking for someone with an understanding of how to prioritise, plan and deliver visitor infrastructure projects.

We need someone who is highly organised and has a good attention to detail. This role requires a collaborative approach, which combines the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure, while working under your own initiative to achieve results to tight deadlines.

Minsmere is one of the most famous bird reserves in the UK and one of RSPB’s most popular reserves. The reserve borders the Sizewell Estate where SZC Co plans to build a new nuclear power station, Sizewell C. The RSPB led a campaign against the potential threats of the Sizewell C development called LoveMinsmere, bringing people together to demonstrate the value of and concern for the reserve and its wildlife.

In July 2022, the UK government approved the application to build Sizewell C, after a lengthy planning process and Examination. As part of the approval, a Resilience Fund was set up for mitigation of the impacts on visitors to RSPB Minsmere.

These impacts will begin as soon as works commence and last for the construction period (currently estimated to last 12 years). This project will enable RSPB Minsmere to maintain a great visitor experience despite these changes. 

The Senior Project Manager will manage a series of infrastructure projects funded by the Resilience Fund. Initially, they will work with the Minsmere team to develop a costed programme of works with agreed priority projects. They’ll then manage consultants and contractors to deliver that plan on the ground.

About the project

Vision: RSPB Minsmere offers an exceptional visitor experience despite the Sizewell C construction works.
Objectives: By Feb 2027, RSPB Minsmere has improved infrastructure that enhances the visitor experience and mitigates the impacts of Sizewell C on the visitor experience.
Outcomes: Maintained quality of visitor experience, retaining the reserve’s income levels.
Outputs (To be kept under review as the project develops):

New visitor infrastructure, likely to include a redeveloped toilet block, car park improvements and play area among other items. Including all designs and consents. 

Consolidation and improved interpretation of Leiston Abbey (first site) as outlined in the Deed of Obligation and improvements to physical access to the site.

Infrastructure enhanced to allow enhanced reserve events programme.

What we need from you

• Convening groups of stakeholders and leading sessions to develop the mitigation programme of works.
• Communicating with RSPB colleagues and key stakeholders regularly to report on project progress.
• Managing risks, issues and change as required.
• Producing of a costed programme of works, supported by quotes and/or evidence from similar projects.
• Procuring and managing consultants and contractors to design and deliver the chosen projects.
• Ensuring that consents are in place for all works within the programme
• Working with colleagues to ensure the project programme is reviewed for other opportunities to seek potential funders – to maximise delivery.
• Working to the Resilience Fund budget, including expenditure reporting as required
• Ensuring that all financial records are kept to enable annual financial statements to be produced and to satisfy external audit requirements.

Main purpose of the role

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, this post will lead on the development and delivery of Thrive’s community and public fundraising whilst working collaboratively with the rest of fundraising team to maximise and develop opportunities over various income streams.

 The post holder will work with our local centres to develop fundraising opportunities and offerings that are appealing to the local community.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all high value fundraising activity, including proposals, applications, and donor interactions, and be able to regularly report this activity back to the Head of Philanthropy.

• Ensure the upkeep of a database and filing system for all existing and prospective donors within High Value Giving liaising with the Finance and Administrative team to ensure reconciliation with financial record.

• Work closely with the Philanthropy team and other colleagues to maximise all opportunities and support a dynamic, successful, and professional team

• Ensure that data security is maintained and that legal and regulatory requirements are fully complied with.

• Undertake other tasks, when necessary, to achieve the team’s and the organisation’s overall objectives.

As Projects Officer: Neighbourhood Food Model you will lead on specific projects within the wider Neighbourhood Food Model. Your role will be to grow collaborations, facilitate groups and workshops, and coordinate action. You will be building alliances with local food growers, chefs, researchers, council officers and residents to build a better local food system in Walworth.

The Walworth Neighbourhood Food Model is an ambitious, long-term approach to tackling the root causes of food insecurity in our neighbourhood. It offers a vision for a network of complementary spaces and initiatives, to build social connection through food, develop local supply chains, and transform the local food economy. This is a key role with a significant level of responsibility, working in a small dynamic team, at a crucial time in the development of this ambitious programme.

Responsible for: Planning, organising, recruiting, facilitating and documenting a range of groups and collaborations that aim to transform Walworth’s food system.

You will need to be dedicated and passionate about neighbourhood food, and able to inspire others. You will need to be adaptable and relish uncertainty, and you will be creative and enjoy problem solving. You will also enjoy bringing some order to things by finding the right level of detail at which to project plan, and find personal satisfaction in being organised with good record keeping.

Contract length: 12 months
Salary: £29,903.50 per year.

Position summary

SAT-7 is currently looking to recruit a Development Officer to join SAT-7s Development Department.

The purpose of SAT-7 is to provide Christian television and digital media services to support the work and witness of the church in the Middle East and North Africa.

SAT-7’s Development department works with projects to address often controversial issues in the MENA region such as disability, discrimination, limited educational opportunities, women’s and children’s rights through the TV-programs and through on the ground partners.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the activities of SAT-7 PARS, SAT-7’s Farsi speaking channel, including the drafting of fundraising proposals.

Summary of key responsibilities

• Development of fundraising proposals for SAT-7 PARS’ channel projects in cooperation with all relevant SAT-7 stakeholders
• Conduct frequent MENA context analysis with special focus on the situation for Christians, FoRB, women, children, disabilities, education etc.
• Monitoring and managing the correct implementation of the projects (scope, budget, schedule, quality etc.)
• Manage and ensure the necessary reporting of SAT-7 PARS projects carried out with restricted funds.
• Management and development of the portfolio of SAT-7 social-impact projects in line with Communications for Development approach
• Oversee research related to measurement of the success of different projects.
• Work closely with the International Office Communications Department for the portfolio projects.
• Travelling to different SAT-7 offices in MENA when required

Qualifications and requirements

• Be sympathetic with and enthusiastic about the purpose and goals of SAT‑7.
• Relevant university degree is required e.g. Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Theology
• Knowledge of Middle East political, socioeconomics and religious issues is essential.
• Experience in project management, Communications for Development or/and Christian ministry, and the coordination of projects supported by restricted funds would be an advantage.
• Be a proficient communication writer able to express SAT-7’s Christian identity to corporate and statutory funders.
• Outstanding English writing/speaking skills.
• Experience in a similar position is considered an advantage.
• Knowledge of Farsi would be an advantage.
• Previous experience of working in the Middle East or North Africa is a strong advantage
• Be very organised with good attention to detail, able to juggle different tasks, meet deadlines, prioritise and delegate when appropriate.
• Experience from working with staff from different cultures.
• Be flexible, demonstrating a “can do” attitude when taking on new challenges, leading by example.
• Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively via phone, email and in person with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
•  Self-motivated, confident, proactive, and highly organized with ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.

We are looking for a Fair to Nature Advisory and Project Development Officer. This advisory role will play a key contribution to help grow the RSPB’s Fair to Nature programme and improve habitats to protect and restore nature and wildlife on UK farms with one specific major business partner, and with a wide range of other farmers and businesses.

What's the role about?

For the key strategic business partnership within the dairy sector the role will visit farmer-suppliers and provide in-person habitat advice, and speak with farmers remotely (via Teams / Zoom) to understand their farming operation and provide habitat advice.

You will use this insight and experience to help inform the marketing tools and advisory programme for broader supply chain (other farms) within the partnership.

For other Fair to Nature farmers, and businesses directly linked to them, you will prepare for and complete advisory visits and follow up with applicant Fair to Nature farmers and share the benefits of Fair to Nature certification. You will advise them on how to comply with the FtN Standard and help them complete their Farm Plan.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Knowledge of land management practices that deliver nature and wider environment benefits on farmland.
• Understanding of the ecology of main farmland taxa, particularly those of conservation concern.
• Understanding of agricultural systems and how conservation management may impact on farming practice.
• Able to communicate effectively with farmers and advise them on land management for nature.
• Ability to be self-motivated and work efficiently within a defined work plan. This necessitates the ability to plan and organise their own work.
• Competent IT user (e.g. MS packages, Outlook etc).
• An ability to produce clear written communications.
• Proven time management and organisational skills to meet project deadlines.
• Experience of working with farmers.
• Experience of giving land and / or habitat management advice.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

• Experience of working to a standard project management approach.
• Experience of collaborating with food businesses.
• Ability to do habitat assessments and species surveys.
• Understanding of dairy farming and how conservation management may impact on farming practice.

The successful candidate will be based at a convenient location for travel across England and Wales

ABOUT BLACK ROOTZ

Black Rootz is a multigenerational growing project providing opportunities for Black and racially minoritised people to grow food for themselves, their families and their communities. Black Rootz was established in 2019 by a collective of Black growers in Haringey who recognised the need to organise to challenge the deep inequalities in the growing and food systems. Over the past 5 years, Black Rootz has developed a holistic practice for Black and racially minoritised communities incorporating intergenerational knowledge transfer, increased access to land and food sovereignty, regenerative environmental practices and reduced food inequality.

Black Rootz has been incubated as a project within The Ubele Initiative since 2019. As an established name in the growing community, it is now building towards an independent future.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager is a new role that will provide hands on management capacity to Black Rootz. The role will bring experience and energy to support the delivery and continued development of the project’s core activities; the Community Growing Programme and a new workshop series. The Project Manager will take on a management position and, with support from Ubele, help the project to navigate decisions that will enable Black Rootz to achieve its overall social, environmental, and operational ambitions. 

The successful candidate will be central in Black Rootz’ journey towards a more independent and sustainable future. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with the complexity andholistic nature of Black Rootz and will be committed to its values. As a small team, the Project Manager will be as comfortable making plans and big decisions as they are rolling their sleeves up and being hands on to support the team. While this is a fixed-term contract, we expect the role to be extended and grow over time.
