Job description

Join the friendly and welcoming team at City of Sanctuary Sheffield, as part of the Sheffield Project for Refugee Integration and Growth (SPRING) which supports refugees in the city.

This is a key role. The SPRING Front of House Welcome and Support Worker is responsible for meeting and greeting refugees and helping them get the services they need. At the moment this role is being done online and over the phone via the Virtual Sanctuary. In the future, it will return to being face to face at the Sanctuary in the city centre.  You will have to be adaptable and comfortable working in both settings.

You will be working alongside and supporting many different volunteers on the SPRING project.

As the first person many refugees come into contact with, you will need to be welcoming, calm, and good at listening. Your English must be good, and it would be great if you could also speak another relevant language. You will need good IT skills so that you can use databases and web-based information and referral systems.

We particularly welcome applications from people who have personal experience of the asylum system and people of colour.  To support all applicants, free preparation sessions will be run by the New Beginnings team at Voluntary Action Sheffield.  These will be open to anyone applying for the role to learn a bit more about the job and get support with their application.  The sessions will run at 10am on Tuesday 27th October and on the week commencing 2nd November (exact date tbc).

Copies of the Job Description, Person Specification and information about the SPRING project can be found in the attachments and on our website where you can also find out further information about City of Sanctuary Sheffield.

To apply for this role, please write a covering letter (no more than 2 pages long).  In this letter:

  • say why you are applying for the job.
  • tell us how you meet the job requirements detailed in the person specification. Give practical examples of what you have done that meets each requirement.

In addition, please include the following:

  • a brief summary of the work and volunteering you have done or a short CV.
  • name, phone and email addresses of two referees, at least one of whom can comment on recent work or volunteer experience.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 9th November.

Longlist interviews will be held in W/C 23rd November and shortlist Interview will be held W/C 30th November.
