The role

Reporting to our Head of Services, this exciting and varied role is your opportunity to lead the evaluation of our online and in-person services as a key member of the Services Lead team. The role will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Charity including the fundraising team to prepare applications and impact reports and our partner organisation GenesisCare.,

Key role considerations are to ensure that:

• Services offered by the charity meet clients’ needs and lead to demonstrable impact
• Information provided is evidence-based, balanced, and consistent
• The voice of the person with cancer is integrated into strategy and service development

This important role will suit a proactive, highly organised person with experience in the evaluation and impact assessment of health-related services, analysing information and data, producing objective reports, and undertaking or overseeing desk research. You will be highly literate and able to write succinctly and compellingly for different audiences including academic, funders, health care professionals and individuals with cancer. Candidates will have experience of designing and using mixed-methods of service evaluation, ideally within a health-based environment.

About our office

1. The Role

The Head of Audiences is a new leadership role in the Commercial Operations team designed to ensure that audience insight and segmentation are at the heart of everything we do. This role will lead on understanding who our current and prospective audiences are, how they engage with us and what they need now and in the future. You will use this insight to guide programming, marketing, visitor experience at Winchester Science Centre but as we evolve our Charity’s reach and engagement you will play an important role in ensuring we fulfil our ambitious plans and reaching a diverse community. Special Circumstances

As the Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in providing financial insights and guidance as part of our Senior Leadership Team, helping drive informed decisions and contributing to the overall financial success of the organisation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Charity Support:

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand their operational needs, challenges, and objectives.
• Act as a trusted advisor, translating financial data into actionable insights that drive improvements in efficiency, cost control, and overall performance.

Joy Project Support:

• Work closely with the Project Director to give full finance support to the Joy project.
• Provide support managing the costs, budgeting and billing surrounding Joy.
• Identify operational and financial risks and opportunities.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

• Work closely with department heads to develop, monitor and update the annual budget.
• Provide regular forecasts, track performance against budget, and recommend adjustments as necessary.

Cost Analysis and Control:

• Analyse costs, including spend against restricted and unrestricted grant income. Identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Implement cost control measures and continuous improvement initiatives.

Performance Metrics:

• Develop and maintain KPIs and financial performance metrics.
• Regularly report on performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

Financial Reporting:

• Manage relationship with third party audit partners.
• Analyse financial statements and performance reports, and report as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
• Communicate financial results to the Board of Trustees at regular charity board meetings.

Decision Support:

• Participate in decision-making processes by providing financial insights and risk assessment for new projects, capital investments, and operational changes.

Variance Analysis:

• Investigate and explain variances from budget and forecast. Collaborate with project/grant owners to address performance gaps.

Process Improvement:

• Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency and financial performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices.

Management

• Oversee the recruitment of additional members of the Finance Team.
• Full line management of the Finance Team, including regular 1-1 meeting and supporting their professional development.

You will work closely with our existing team, supporting the delivery and organisation of the IntoUniversity programme in the centre.

The main duties of the role

To deliver the IntoUniversity programme effectively to children and young people in different settings, including schools-based workshops, Academic Support sessions and educational visits. This includes positive behaviour management and adherence to the IntoUniversity safeguarding policy.

• To assist with the organisation and delivery of the Academic Support, FOCUS and Mentoring Programmes.
• To assist the IntoUniversity Centre Leader in liaising with schools and other partner bodies, in organising the classroom and resources and in planning project delivery. 
• To update and maintain IntoUniversity displays, publicity and resources.
• To work with the IntoUniversity Centre Leader to recruit children and young people to the programme, including after-school Academic Support and FOCUS Weeks. 
• To develop educational resources and worksheets for use across all IntoUniversity programmes. 
• To ensure compliance with all necessary regulations and legal requirements, including the Children’s Act,  Children and Young People (Scotland) Act, Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act, Protection of Vulnerable  Groups (Scotland) Act, and legislation and policies related to Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.

Days of employment

The number of days of employment per year will be confirmed with the successful candidate at offer stage. This will also include a number of additional hours which will be agreed between the candidate and line manager. This may include days during school holidays. They will typically include three whole team meetings, one delivery team meeting and the annual staff conference. These will be pro-rated based on when you join in the academic year.

The Purpose of the Role

As Director of Communications, UK, you lead IRC UK’s core communications strategy with the objectives of growing our profile, influencing policy, driving income, and building our reputation. This is done by taking a strategic approach to generating effective messaging for cross-team use, creatively collaborating to produce cut-through external products across media and digital channels, and generating top tier media coverage in collaboration with communications, advocacy and fundraising colleagues globally. In this role you will be expected to use expert judgment to manage IRC UK’s reputation, as well as ensure media and digital outputs protect clients, staff and programming from harm. 

The Director will report to the UK Executive Director and the Acting Senior Director of Global Public Affairs. The Director will collaborate closely with the Director for Digital Engagement, UK Advocacy Director, and the Director of UK Mass Markets to meet the organization’s strategic objectives surrounding profile, income and influence.

 

Scope and Authority

 

Authority:

●The role holder sets strategic direction for UK communications, with a focus on earned media, public advocacy and organic digital.

●The role oversees the UK comms operational budget, with access to the Global External Relations budget.

●The role has the authority to brief journalists with agreed messaging and act as spokesperson for the organisation.

●The Director will line manage the communications team and other positions when required.

●The role is a key member of the UK Senior Management Team, with collective responsibility for the leadership, culture and efficacy of IRC UK.

 

Key Working Relationships

●Reports to the UK Executive Director and Acting Senior Director Global Public Affairs & Communications.

Strategic Direction

●Raise IRC UK's profile, income, influence and brand in the UK market by developing and delivering a 360 comprehensive communications & marketing strategy that reaches target audiences, attracts new supporters, and connects supporters with IRC clients.

●Partner with global external relations leadership to set Key Performance Indicators for achieving the strategy, and drive and monitor progress towards them with the support of your team.

●Contribute to the development and delivery of the UK Strategic Plan.

 

 

 

Team Management & Stakeholder engagement

●Manage a team of communications professionals, setting objectives, portfolio scope, and partnering on professional development opportunities

●Drive creative insights and strategic thinking within the UK comms team and influence / maximize policy, advocacy and fundraising outputs and results

●Lead strategic communications planning to maximize opportunities of partnering with income and influence objectives and outputs

●Ensure the UK Communications Team are clear on systems, processes and organization to drive efficiency and team productivity

●Ensure pro/reactive message accuracy and cut through calls to action that engage audiences for proactive campaigns and news cycle opportunities.

●Support, prepare and coach staff, spokespeople and board members for media interviews and visits; and provide guidance across the organisation to dealing with media.

●Build expertise on current and potential issues in the humanitarian NGO arena via research and monitoring of national media and competitors and in liaison with global colleagues.

About you and the role

The purpose of this role is to manage operational delivery of our School by School Programme, ensuring efficient and effective delivery. 

You will be supported by our Chief Innovation Officer, and manage our Chef Trainers delivering our School by School interventions. You will work closely with the Director of Partnerships & Impact, our School Engagement Manager and our Research Supervisor. 

Your role will oversee our School by School interventions, delivered across multiple school sites. This role will be primarily focused in London, but will include supporting schools in locations across the UK as we develop new hubs. You will be joining a dynamic and growing charity who are passionate about delivering exceptional training, skill sharing, expertise and know-how to advance the quality of food preparation, food service and food education in schools.

The responsibilities:

• To work with the Chief Innovation Officer to ensure that all programme delivery of school interventions is delivered in line with our vision, values and ethos.

• To support and manage our Chef Trainers to ensure that programme delivery is carried out in the most effective and efficient way.

• Coordinate and oversee all programme activities, including scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation.

• Managing the programme budget, identifying issues, and ensuring milestones are met. 

• Work closely with the Chief Innovation Officer, Director of Partnerships & Impact and the School Engagement Manager to assess, cost and propose suitable programmes of support for schools and multi-academy trusts interested in our School by School programme.

• Working with the School Engagement Manager, attend and contribute to meetings with the Senior Leadership of prospective new schools and academies, developing proposals and financial forecasting.

• Liaise and manage relationships with the Senior Leadership in the schools and academies we work with, being the key contact for operational delivery of programmes. 

• To ensure that service level agreements are agreed with schools and that our delivery matches the agreements.

• To monitor costs of the programme delivery, reporting progress of programmes to the Chief Innovation Officer, identifying any risks or delays to programme delivery. 

• At all times to ensure that our school interventions are being delivered in a legally compliant, cost-effective way.

• Work closely with the Chef Trainers to ensure our advice to, and work in, schools is legally compliant.

• Support the Chef Trainers in monitoring legal safety compliance in schools, promptly flagging major concerns to the Chief Innovation Officer and where appropriate, the key school contact.

• Ensuring learning and evaluation is embedded in our programme delivery, working with the Chef Trainers to document best practice learnt from each programme. 

• To work alongside the Director of Partnerships & Impact and Research Supervisor to ensure that we’re collecting accurate and relevant data to measure our impact, evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the programmes, conducting regular assessments and measurements.

• Work with the Research Supervisor to support preparing reports on the impact of the School by School programmes, including statistical data, trends, and success stories. 

• Work with the School Engagement Manager to maintain accurate data records and ensure our contacts database is up to date with relevant chef, school lead and engagement information. 

• Collaborate with the Chef Trainers to ensure the delivery of high-quality services that meet the needs of schools.

Course structure and requirements

The National Curriculum for High Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counselling within NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression outlines the full details of the course structure. To summarise, the following outlines the key training requirements:  

· A 1-year core psychotherapeutic counselling foundation level training, which also introduces the chosen NHS Talking Therapies modality. Following sign off for readiness, trainees can begin to practice at West London Centre for Counselling with people with mild to moderate depression

· Followed by, a 2-year post-graduate diploma (PGDip) in psychotherapeutic counselling (minimum 120 credits at Level 7)

· A minimum of 450 supervised client hours gained within a NHS Talking Therapies service

· A minimum of 450 training hours (skills and theory)  

· A minimum of 50 personal therapy hours  

· A minimum of 90 minutes of training supervision to every six hours of client work (or the equivalent for group supervision), or 90 minutes per week if they have completed less than six hours of client work in the week

The role

Evidence and Evaluation Officers are key to generating and synthesising evidence on what works and developing resources to support its translation to policy makers, commissioners and practitioners.

The primary focus of the role is contributing to the Strengthening Families, Supporting Children programme – a flagship initiative involving three large-scale comprehensive evaluations of distinct social work practice models. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to high-impact evaluations that will directly inform national policy. You will join the project team and will work closely with other Evidence and Evaluation Officers and will be supervised by a Senior Evaluation Officer. You will also support commissioned evaluations.

About you

The role requires a strong mix of research and broader professional skills, including communication skills, initiative, and the ability to engage with a wide range of audiences. You will also need a master's degree in social science, social policy, public health, health services, or another related field, or relevant experience equivalent to a master's qualification.

You will have experience of:

• Conducting implementation and process evaluations and delivering outputs to time and to high quality
• Conducting research in sensitive and complex settings, including children’s social care
• Collecting data from children, young people, and families who may be vulnerable
• Analysing quantitative data, including survey and administrative data
• Coding qualitative data using NVivo and familiarity with different qualitative analytical methods
• Writing clear, concise, and comprehensive research reports.
