Job Description

About the role

The Head of Fundraising and Communications will lead the development and delivery of a systematic, data-driven, and project-managed approach to fundraising and communications — driving sustainable income growth and raising the charity’s profile and influence.

As the charity’s strategic lead for fundraising, they will shape and expand our income streams, strengthen systems and processes, and build a high-performing team to help us reach more young people with our vital work. They will also lead on external communications and storytelling, ensuring our narrative is compelling, consistent, and rooted in the powerful impact of our programmes.

While this role will oversee a team of three, the postholder will be hands-on and deeply involved in the systems and practices they implement, ensuring excellence in both strategy and delivery.

This newly created role is a key position on the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the CEO, Deputy CEO, and Head of Programmes to deliver The Ben Kinsella Trust’s vision and strategy.

As part of a small charity making a big impact, you will play a central role in ensuring Ben’s legacy continues to educate, empower, and inspire thousands more young people across London and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  Fundraising

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for all fundraising activity, ensuring a systematic and dependable approach to income generation.
• Develop and deliver a long-term fundraising strategy that supports sustainable growth and diversification across grants & trusts, corporate donors, major donors, individual giving and community fundraising.
• Build and manage relationships with key funders and donors, working with the CEO and Fundraising Manager to cultivate and steward major partnerships.
• Maintain oversight and final sign-off of major and high-value funding applications to grants & trusts, corporate donors and major donors, ensuring they are well-structured, hold a compelling narrative, and are of the highest quality.
• Implement systems, processes, and KPIs to monitor performance, track pipelines, and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide strategic fundraising insight and reporting to the Senior Leadership Team and Board.

  Senior Leadership Team

• Play a full and active role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organisational strategy, decision-making, and culture.
• Introduce and refine systems, processes, and workflows to improve efficiency and collaboration across departments.
• Support strategic planning and financial forecasting, particularly in relation to income generation and communications activity.

  Communications and Marketing

• Develop and implement a comprehensive external communications strategy, providing strategic leadership communications and campaigns and ensuring alignment with the charity’s mission and priorities.
• Shape and oversee the charity’s external narrative, ensuring our storytelling is compelling, consistent, and rooted in impact.
• Manage the charity’s media, PR, and brand activity, ensuring all communications uphold high standards and strengthen the charity’s reputation.
• Lead the charity’s digital presence, including website, social media, paid advertising and online campaigns, to grow awareness and engagement.
• Lead the creation of high-quality marketing materials and publications to support fundraising, advocacy, and service delivery.
• Use data and insight to evaluate effectiveness and inform future strategy.

  Finance

• Responsible for the Fundraising and Communications budget and any related contracted services budgets, and any relevant restricted funds.

Experience 

• Experience in a senior fundraising role, with a track record of developing and delivering successful income generation strategies.

The time commitment will be approximately 4 to 6 days per year to attend panel, more if required, with a payment rate of £200 per panel, plus reasonable travel and other expenses incurred.

Attendance at 2 training sessions per year is required and travel expenses will be covered.

The role comprises of the following key areas of responsibility:

· Executive Assistant to CEO

Provide full support to the CEO, including but not limited to:

o Overseeing the diary of the CEO, prioritising meetings and scheduling time for reading, thinking and preparing, ensuring meeting materials are to hand.

o Providing ‘right-hand’ support, undertaking research, ensuring CEO is up to date with all projects and pre-empting needs.

o Secretarial – supporting emails, creating presentations, keeping management files organised and up to date within SharePoint.

· Executive Assistant to Chair

Provide full support to the Chair in any administrative activities that relate to her role as Chair, including but not limited to:

o Overseeing calendar appointments, and ensuring the Chair is prepared for meetings.

o Providing ‘right hand’ support in communication with staff and Board, scheduling meetings and providing administrative support as required.

· Governance and administrative support to the Overcoming MS Board

Provide governance and administrative support to the Overcoming MS Board of trustees, including:

o Scheduling Board, committee and Strategy meetings and making the necessary arrangements (eg booking venues, setting up virtual meetings via Teams/ Zoom).

o Preparation of documentation for meetings including circulation of agendas, compiling Board packs for the Board of Trustees and committee meetings, taking accurate minutes and co-ordinating follow up actions.

o Supporting the Chair and CEO in the recruitment and induction of new Trustees.

o Providing administrative support for working groups, for example, making arrangements for meetings, circulating agendas and papers.
 

· Internal HR administrative lead

Fully supported with external expertise, to provide administrative support for the team, including:

o Advertising vacant roles, coordinating recruitment, sifting applicants, arranging interviews.

o Onboarding new starters, including references, contracts, setting up new starters on the systems, inducting starters in organisational processes.

o Supporting ongoing team development including coordinating training, staff surveys and appraisals.

o Coordinating leavers, including exit interviews, leavers forms and relevant administration.

· Internal IT administrative lead

Fully supported by our external IT agency, to provide administrative support for the team, including:

o Regular meetings with IT agency to ensure correct licenses, equipment and protections are in place.

o Coordination of hardware and software for new starters, equipment provided and returned for leavers.

· Management of Overcoming MS contact enquiries

o Regularly check the Overcoming MS contacts mailbox and manage its contents, responding or delegating to Overcoming MS team members where appropriate, and ensuring follow up is completed.

o Manage the Overcoming MS telephone number to ensure queries are dealt with efficiently.

o Draw themes from regularly occurring queries, to make sure any trends are picked up and addressed effectively.

· General organisational support

o Provide ad hoc project management support to organisational improvement projects, including supporting project team meetings, developing project plans and tracking progress.

o Travel/ meeting arrangements – arrange meetings, attendance at conferences and book rooms and making travel arrangements as necessary.

o    Coordination with our outsourced storage facility.

o Policy support – maintenance of the policy tracker, coordinating the reviewing and updating of policies.

o Admin support for team meetings, oversight of the shared drive, central email lists.

o Lead relationship with our Employee Assistance Provider, including regular team reminders of services and other charity discounts.

About the role

We are looking to recruit a talented Business Support Officer to join the Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement (P&A) team at King’s College London.

The Business Support Officer provides crucial and comprehensive support for the Business Operations team to help ensure the continued success and evolution of the department. It is a fast-paced and varied post that will offer operational and administrative support to cover a diverse range of tasks, from planning and delivering team engagement activity, through to recruitment and onboarding, to supporting on financial analysis and reporting. They work closely with the Business Manager KCL Philanthropy and the People & Talent Manager but will also be a part of the wider Business Operations unit that ensures P&A is an efficiently and smoothly functioning unit.

As a significant part of the role, the postholder will be working closely with the Business Manager to support the work of the Philanthropy teams. The role will work with frontline fundraisers, as well as colleagues across the Department, to support in the processes and administration involved in cultivating and securing philanthropic gifts. They will also play a key role in supporting the Business Manager to drive forward important engagement and coordination across the Philanthropy team. In doing so, they will help support the creation of a high performing culture and allow fundraisers to focus on maximising philanthropic opportunities.

The Business Support Officer will also work closely with the People & Talent Manager, supporting in areas such as recruitment process, developing and organising training programmes and opportunities, and generally supporting on work to create an excellent working environment. This will cover activity in the Philanthropy teams and also more broadly across P&A.

The role will suit an ambitious self-starter who can co-ordinate and manage projects and processes across a variety of work areas within business operations, being motivated by working with both people and data. Someone who can build strong relationships across teams to ensure that ways of working are optimised to support our fundraising efforts and our wider department. This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months. P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office. Windmill Hill City Farm is an established community hub in central Bristol supporting local people to live active, healthy and fulfilling lives. Light is a perinatal mental health support charity, set up in 2010, which has grown to support parents and their families across South Yorkshire through the provision of peer support and counselling. About the role

The Management Accountant provides forward-looking financial insight to support decision-making, strategy, and organisational sustainability. The role focuses on reporting and analysis, including the preparation of monthly and year-end management accounts, cashflow forecasting, and performance dashboards. By translating financial data into meaningful insight, the Management Accountant enables trustees, senior leadership, and managers to understand trends, risks, and opportunities, and to make evidence-based decisions.

The role plays a key role in supporting bids, business cases, and strategic projects, ensuring proposals are underpinned by robust financial modelling and scenario planning. St. John’s Mansions will offer 19 beautifully finished self-contained studio flats, designed to support residents in their journey from rough sleeping and emergency accommodation to independent living. With a stay of up to 24 months, residents will receive tailored, high-intensity support to help them build the skills and confidence needed to thrive independently. 

The service will operate 24/7, with a welcoming reception and dedicated staff & clients spaces to enable both structured interventions and spontaneous, meaningful engagement. SHP will be working not only within Islington but in partnership with five North London boroughs - Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, and Westminster. This is more than just housing – it is a bridge to a better future. In this role, you’ll work closely with adults living in our accommodation, building trusting relationships and supporting them to take positive steps towards independence.
