Plumstead Community Law Centre is a free specialist legal advice charity located in central Woolwich in South East London. We provide specialist legal advice and advocacy in the areas of immigration, welfare benefits and employment People can access our services via telephone or email, and through the Advice Hub outreach services we attend in local community centres. In 2024 over 1,400 local people accessed our advice and representation services, resulting in a range of financial and non-financial benefits.
Towards the end of 2024, we moved away from a collective model towards a functional management structure. We appointed an Interim CEO from the staff group and expanded our trustee board's size and expertise.
This Managing Director and Senior Solicitor role involves assuming the charity’s management from our interim CEO, who has established strong systems and secured new funding for the further strengthening of the charity. Our strategic plan includes improving our legal practice management with a view to obtaining a quality mark and securing an immigration legal aid contract. We anticipate securing further funding to expand our services, to support more people in need in our community.

The Law Centre Managing Director and Senior Solicitor (“MD/SS”) is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Law Centre. What the job involves
We’re looking for a Black Health Equity Engagement Officer to join our Black Health Equity and Engagement team. The team plays a key role in supporting our community engagement work by building trust and strengthening relationships with Black community organisations and leaders across the UK. The aim is to raise awareness of prostate cancer risk within Black communities and help reduce the health inequalities experienced by Black men.
As a Black Health Equity Engagement Officer, you’ll be providing the logistical support to Prostate Cancer UK’s Black Men’s Advisory Group - who provide insights, support and guidance to the charity to help us address Black health equity. You’ll attend a wide range of community events and identify ways to spread awareness and build trusting relationships with groups, organisations and networks.
By building an understanding of the ways which health inequalities impact Black men affected by prostate cancer (and their families) you’ll establish effective and efficient working practices and gather data capturing the impact of this work.
You’ll get to meet a wide range of supporters and work with Black communities to ensure their lived experiences shape our work and help to increase our number of Black volunteers to increase awareness. You’ll also get to work with different teams across the charity and act as a source of knowledge for our work in tackling health inequalities.
What we want from you
We’re looking for candidates who understand health inequalities and is able to explain how they may impact Black men affected by prostate cancer. Knowledge of, or previous involvement in health awareness initiatives would be beneficial for this role, although we also value transferable skills gained from other sectors.
You’ll have experience in organising meetings or events that cater to a diverse range of participants, ensuring that various perspectives are heard and valued, especially within Black communities.
You’ll have a proven ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with a wide array of stakeholders. Furthermore, you’ll be a great communicator, especially when engaging with community stakeholders.
Please note that community events often take place on evenings or weekends – the successful candidate will need to work flexibly to attend roughly one weekend event a month and take time back mid-week. Community awareness events will take place in the Midlands and London.

Overall Purpose of the Community and Events Fundraising Officer
As our Community and Events Officer, you will primarily focus on the expansion and development of our community and events programme.

OVERVIEW
This role will be a key member of our ambitious team, delivering a growing portfolio of fundraising campaigns, fundraising events, and supporter engagement initiatives. You’ll oversee our supporter journeys, manage our communications channels, and build meaningful relationships that drive income and deepen our impact.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Campaigns & Income Generation
- Work with the Head of Fundraising to plan and deliver our 12-month supporter journey – including fundraising campaigns (online and offline), events and appeals.
- Manage our calendar of challenge events (e.g. The Don’s Cycle Challenge, Wombles Walk, Sponsored Skydive).
- Grow supporter-led community fundraising in the local area.
- Lead outreach to engage new local partners – including small businesses, schools and clubs – promoting fundraising opportunities and supporting their initiatives.
Communications & Marketing
- Alongside the Head of Fundraising, lead all communications for the charity.
- Create engaging fundraising content for email, website, and social media to drive online donations, event and programme sign-ups.
- Work with the wider Foundation team and club comms team to create content for social media, e-newsletters and our website.
- Promote Foundation programmes and campaigns to fans, families, and local supporters, driving participation and donations.
- Create marketing materials (posters, flyers, etc.) to support charitable prorammes and campaigns.
- Collaborate with Senior Managers to share the impact of the Foundation through monitoring and evaluation reports. Including creating the annual organsiation Impact Report.
- Manage the Foundation’s website, ensuring content is regularly updated, fully functioning, and aligned with key campaigns, events, and programmes.
Supporter Engagement & Stewardship
- Manage the supporter engagement programme, delivering a rolling 12-month plan of personalised and meaningful touchpoints.
- Develop and implement strategies to encourage increased giving and recruit new regular donors.
- Maximise engagement and retention of individual supporters (particularly low- to mid-level donors) through excellent donor care, timely thanking, and compelling communications.
- Coordinate supporter stories and participant case studies to inspire giving.
- Manage our weekly e-communications, using engaging content to recruit new subscribers and convert them into donors, event participants, or programme attendees.
Supporter Care
- Act as the first point of contact for fundraisers and donors, delivering first-class stewardship and support.
- Ensure timely, warm and effective follow-up with all supporters, helping them feel inspired, valued and connected.
Events & Community Activation
- Support the delivery of fundraising and engagement opportunities at AFC Wimbledon fixtures and stadium events.
- Represent the Foundation at local events, cheque presentations, and community partner visits.
Administration & Data Management
- Maintain accurate supporter and income records in our CRM system, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection laws.
- Liaise with the Finance Officer to process donations, including Gift Aid claims and income reconciliation.
- Provide regular fundraising reports and insights for internal and external stakeholders.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Qualifications & Experience
- Hold a relevant higher education or industry recognised certification or have a minimum of at least 1–2 years' experience in a fundraising, communications, supporter engagement or similar role
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with supporters, partners, or donors
- Experience planning and delivering fundraising campaigns, events, or community initiatives
- Experience using digital tools for fundraising and engagement (e.g. mass email platforms, design tools, giving platforms, CRM systems)
- Experience creating digital content (e.g. website management social media, e-newsletters, case studies)

About the role
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to help deliver SSAFA volunteer support to the serving community.
You will work closely with the Serving Community Manager to develop SSAFA’s support to the serving community through its volunteer delivered Serving Community Teams and the Community Volunteering Service.

We have a new and exciting opportunity to work with us as an Evidence Officer, working as part of the Strategy, Impact and Evidence team.
Sustrans’ Strategy, Impact and Evidence team is a leading centre of excellence in active travel research, monitoring and evaluation and we are recruiting now. As an Evidence Officer, you will work on a range of behaviour change and infrastructure projects, providing monitoring, evaluation, and analytical support. The Strategy, Impact and Evidence teamplays an important part in supporting our vision by providing robust evidence on sustainable and active travel that ultimately influences and shapes policy, practice and behaviour across the UK.
Focusing on monitoring and evaluating the impact of infrastructure and behaviour change programmes, you will work on a range of projects around the UK and be involved in the planning, delivery, analysis and reporting of our monitoring and evaluation work.
