About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. 

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. 

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding what works and working for change – scaling up and spreading the practices that make a difference.

This role and why it’s important 

It's critical to our mission that we understand how and why young people become involved in violence. The YEF’s work combines conducting rigorous evaluations and research studies with hearing directly from young people. It is also important to us that young people are central to the messages we share externally.

Your role involves ensuring that young people’s perspectives are heard and integrated into our work. This includes supporting our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) and helping young people’s voices play a central part in YEFs external communications.

This role also supports the wider team managing grants, contracts and providing general team support.

Click to learn more about the Youth Advisory Board (YAB). Many have lived experience of violence and advise us across all areas of our work to ensure that young people’s perspectives are taken on board as we pursue our mission. YAB members contribute to the governance of the organisation. 

Key responsibilities: 

1. Youth Advisory Board support: 

• Plan engaging activities for YAB meetings and events. These activities require working some evenings and occasional weekends. 

• Provide support and pastoral care to YAB members, including personal development planning and safeguarding.

• Help recruit YAB members (young people aged 16 –25) through interviews and managing recruitment. 

• Develop and schedule the YAB induction programme for new members. 

• Monitor attendance and engagement of YAB members. 

• Coordinate YAB attendance at external events. 

2. Facilitating Youth Voice in communications: 

• Act as a bridge between the YAB and our external communications team. 

• Work with the communications team to amplify young people's voices on social media. 

• Assist young people in sharing their views and stories through various communication methods. 

3. Managing grants and contracts: 

• Maintain records of payments and tasks using Salesforce. 

• Assist stakeholders and team members in using Salesforce effectively. 

• Support in procurement processes and grant management by organising documents and scheduling meetings. 

• Proactively identify and address issues. 

4. Collaboration and support: 

• Work closely with other roles (including our Operations and Culture team) within YEF to ensure coordinated efforts and sharing of best practices.

The role

MIND in Haringey and its partner Public Voice delivers the Voluntary and Community (VCS) Capacity Building contract commissioned by the London Borough of Haringey. The contract, which runs from May 2024 to April 2027 can be extended for a further four years at the discretion of the Client. Lamp, an established Community Mental Health Advocacy charity, is seeking to appoint a Head of Advocacy and Support.

The Role

You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of our schools offer to ensure the success of Outdoor Learning programmes in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Programme Delivery and Collaboration:

•  Develop a bespoke Outdoor Learning offer to schools as part of our Foundations for Outdoor Learning and/or Enriching Education programmes, considering various factors such as location, catchment area, size and type of groups, use of resources and landscape.
• Plan and deliver Outdoor Learning sessions for eligible schools, on school grounds, in local green spaces and at Low Beckside Farm, devising activities and developing appropriate learning resources for each session and agreed outcome.
• Support the delivery of sessions at Low Beckside Farm for groups attending as part of their OWL (Outdoor Week of Learning) residential.
• Work with schools and teachers for effective delivery of programmes.
• Contribute to impact assessments through data collection, observations, and evaluation paperwork.

 We offer a targeted programme of support, individually designed for each school, based on a needs analysis and conversations with staff. This will follow one of two pathways:

Foundations for Outdoor Learning
This programme is a comprehensive, long-term support package for schools wanting to embed Outdoor Learning into their curriculum and practice. Support may include teacher CPD, mentoring, and advice on how to optimise use of your school grounds. We do this on your school site, with some supported visits to local green spaces and our own learning locations.

Enriching Education
This programme uses The Ernest Cook Trust’s own learning locations - woodlands, farms, rivers and other natural landscapes - together with our Outdoor Learning leaders to support a school’s Outdoor Learning provision. This may be a school’s first experience of Outdoor Learning, or it may enhance and extend existing programmes. Either way, we aim to inspire all participants to spend more time
outdoors.

Every year in the UK, around 100 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that mostly affects children under five. Neuroblastoma UK is a small national charity dedicated to finding a cure for this life-threatening disease - and is seeking a talented Senior Communications Officer to help us raise awareness and profile. 

For 40 years, we’ve funded leading research to develop new, more effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma. You’ll be joining us at an exciting time for the charity as look to fund further research projects to help fight childhood cancer and save more young lives, and build our profile across the national media and social media channels, using the support of our celebrity patrons and families. 

The role

The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for press liaison, pitching in case studies and news stories about our research to the national press, building relationships with our celebrity patrons and families and creating content for our social media channels. A key part of the role is supporting the fundraising campaigns by helping to draft relevant copy for email campaigns and calls-to-action on social media. 

The charity has a small team, so everyone helps with thanking and banking, database management and administrative tasks. And this varied role gives plenty of scope to share creative ideas to develop our portfolio of community activities and challenge events, use your strong communication skills to support fundraisers and apply your excellent organisational skills to track impact and outcomes.

The role currently reports to a committed Board of Trustees, many of whom have a personal connection to the cause.

Responsibilities

• Developing and managing a communications strategy in support of key awareness raising events, fundraising campaigns, funded research, campaigning and family case studies.

• Writing, pitching and distributing press releases to the national media, building up relationships with key journalists.

• Working with the team to develop, maintain and deliver annual social media calendar     , developing engaging, impactful and relevant content, monitoring comments and engagements.

• Supporting the team in helping to produce email marketing copy for campaigns and in producing and maintaining content for the website.

• Monitoring research studies and progress so that results can be publicised in a timely way.

• Supporting delivery of a programme of events for the charity.

• Being the first port of call and liaison for media, families, supporters and potential supporters who get in touch with the charity via telephone, email and social media.

• Tracking, monitoring and evaluating impact of our media and social media activities and adapting accordingly.

• Supporting in duties outside of your specific team or department as required

Person Specification

• Demonstrable experience of communications and working with the media and social media channels.
