Role Summary
As the grants officer, you will work closely with the fundraising team and the academic team, to write proposals and apply for funding. This will involve research into grants offered by trusts, foundations and institutions, identifying which opportunities Roots Academy would be eligible for, and playing a key role in developing proposals for grant applications.
Key tasks
- Research:
○ Research trusts, foundations, institutions and other funding bodies that offer funding for Islamic education, BAME education, other faith based or inter-faith work, building community cohesion, or other areas which would be applicable to Roots Academy.
○ Identify key funding opportunities and calls for applications.
- Grant Writing and Coordination:
○ Plan and oversee the proposal development process, working closely with the academic team to collate relevant planning and impact information for proposal narrative, and with the finance team to prepare budget requirements.
○ Ensure proposals are written in line with the relevant proposal guidelines.
○ Submit grant applications.
- Donor Relations:
○ Act as the main point of contact for trusts, foundations, institutions and other funding bodies.

PFP is a UK-based charity working in Africa and Asia since 2004, and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Primary responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and provide finance updates at quarterly Board meetings.
- Manage the payroll of two part-time UK-based employees.
- Undertake banking as and when required, mostly relating to overseas payments, with support from our Administrator.
- Ensure that effective financial processes, systems and controls are in place and maintained.
- Co-ordinate the annual business planning process, including the budget.
- Prepare the financial statements and review for the Annual Report and manage the Independent Examination.
- Be responsible for updating Companies House and The Charity Commission.
- Contribute to the effective governance of PFP, including: ensuring PFP is accountable and carrying out its purpose for public benefit; ensuring compliance with the governing document and applicable law; and challenging the management of resources and ensuring financial stability.
- Work with the Board in developing and advancing PFP’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.

Our policy and influencing work aims to create lasting change by addressing systemic barriers to youth mental health care. We advocate for policies that prioritise mental health, ensure adequate funding, and promote accessibility.
About the role
As a Policy and Campaigns Volunteer, you will play a key role in supporting our efforts to influence policy, raise awareness, and advocate for improved mental health services for young people. You will work closely with our Policy and Campaigns team to help shape and deliver impactful campaigns and contribute to policy development aimed at creating lasting change.
We are looking for dynamic volunteers who will help us to advocate for change, and work collaboratively with other Policy Volunteers and across the wider charity, to plan, create, and roll out policy and campaigns.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in research, analysis and drafting of policy papers, briefing notes, and reports related to mental health issues affecting young people.

Support the development and creation of campaigns that raise awareness and push for reforms in mental health services

Monitor relevant policy developments, governmental reports, and key discussions within the mental health sector.

Help with the development of training materials or toolkits for volunteers and supporters to increase awareness and engagement around mental health policy.

Attend and contribute to team meetings and brainstorming sessions for campaign strategies and policy priorities.

Contribute to the drafting of letters, petitions, and policy submissions aimed at influencing decision makers.

Engage with young people to ensure their voices are heard and included in policy recommendations and campaign efforts.
