About the role:
This role will be part of our IDVA team covering Croydon, Bromley, Sutton and will have the flexible opportunity to work from home, our South London office (SW11 2PH) and various locations within these London boroughs.
As an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor you will: -
- To provide pro-active, high quality, frontline service to victims of domestic violence and abuse through on-going risk assessment, individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
- To work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse
- Work with survivors and other agencies to monitor the care pathway
You will need:
- Have a good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children.
- Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
- Understand Safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
- Direct service delivery to victims of domestic abuse or other vulnerable people.
- Have excellent communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals. Understand and be committed to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice.
- Have a strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.

Job Purpose:
- To plan and implement high quality support and advocacy services for women affected by domestic violence who are deemed as being high risk
- To work within a multi-agency framework to ensure the safety of women is prioritised.
Responsible To: Safety Unit Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support work:
- To recognise women and children’s individual needs, providing a short to medium term service to meet those needs
- To support the empowerment of the service user and facilitate their understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence
- To carry out risk assessment and safety planning with women
- To promote women’s safety within multi-agency arenas such as MARAC and Drive meetings
- To work with women to access services to help keep them and their children safe
- To facilitate access to BSWA and its services
- To devise and implement appropriate and safe methods of communication with women and children, in agreement with your line manager
Development:
- To keep up to date with current legislative changes for dissemination within staff team, and for use when working with women and children around their rights.
- To identify and make links with existing projects and community services and to develop joint services where appropriate
- To keep abreast of issues regarding domestic violence on a national and local level with particular reference to those that may affect the work of the service
- To promote awareness of the impact of domestic violence on women and children and BSWA services
- To participate in multi agency work as agreed with your line manager
Administration:
- To work within BSWA’s administrative and financial systems
- To ensure that clear and accurate records are kept for all service users
- To ensure that Health and Safety records are kept up to date
- To produce monthly reports for your line manager
- To monitor and evaluate the MARAC IDVA and Drive Service, via various methods including feedback from service users and produce statistical information
Communication:
- To ensure that all staff team members are aware of any matters that are relevant to the welfare and security of the project, staff, volunteers and service users by:
- Maintaining BSWA communication records
- Following safety procedures
- Attending team meetings
- Carrying out risk assessments in conjunction with your line manager
- To attend in-house training
- To identify and attend training and conferences relevant to the post, in agreement with your line manager
- To attend support and supervision sessions with your line manager
- To develop a professional working relationship with external agencies
- Feedback relevant issues from external meetings/ training to the staff and management teams as appropriate
- To be involved in the Annual Review process
General:
- To maintain the confidentiality of the women and children using the service and in all matters relating to the organisation

About the role:
This role is based in a split location at the Preston & Blackpool hub, working 37.5 hours a week.at Preston. Hybrid working will be considered following successful completion of probation perdiod. All travel costs to and from appointments from your office base will be reimbursed.
As a IDVA you will be:
- Focusing on victims at high risk of harm, providing a pro-active, short to medium term crisis intervention service through individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional & practical support.
- Supporting victims face to face or by telephone to access services to keep themselves & family safe.
- Developing individual safety plans to meet client's needs as identified in the needs & risk assessment.
- Providing advocacy, emotional and practical support and information to victims including legal & civil options, housing, health & finance as well as support through the criminal justice system.

This role is home and office based, with travel throughout London. As a Male Independent Domestic Violence Advisor- Housing Specialist you will: -
- Ensure that male survivors' safety and housing needs are met.
- Provide specialist support for survivors at the moment of crisis.

- Ensure that the service prioritises the safety, security and dignity of service users and their children
You will need:
- A good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children

- Have excellent communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals. About the role:

- Lead on the development of responses to the needs of male victim/survivors with housing and immigration needs within London and the development of relationships with partner agencies in this area.

You will need:
- You will need a passion for working with victim/survivors and a thorough understanding of domestic abuse and its impact.
- Knowledge of the issues facing Men, women and children affected by violence against women and girls along with the ability to identify victim/survivor individual needs
- Have a thorough understanding of migration and asylum routes inclusive of international and UK law and rights and the procedures for applying for refugee/asylum status in the UK
- Experience of working with housing agencies or in a housing setting in the context of domestic abuse to provide advice
- A thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and harmful practices and its impact specifically on men but inclusive of the significant impact on women, children, families, and communities.
- Experience of managing a team delivering front line support to victims or domestic abuse or vulnerable people to a high standard
- To be Non-judgemental, non-directive and anti-discriminatory approach to empowering victim/survivors of domestic abuse

As an IDVA:
You will work as part of our ISDVA integrated service.
You will work in partnership with other agencies to develop and deliver risk management plans to ensure victims' safety. You will be responsible for advocating on behalf of survivors of domestic abuse and managing and reviewing your cases.
You will have a thorough understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on victim/survivors and their children, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support and strong casework management skills.
You will have the skills to provide effective crisis intervention, carry out risk assessments, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. You should have demonstrable experience of working in an IDVA or similar position with this or a similar client group.
You will understand the legal system in how it relates to survivors of domestic abuse and have strong communication skills and the confidence and ability to present and educate service users and agency partners on the realities and impacts of domestic abuse in a variety of settings. An ability to work independently and prioritise a busy workload is essential.
To be successful in this role you will ideally hold a Safe Lives accreditation (or willingness to gain one) or commensurate experience (normally at least 1 year of direct casework experience supporting high and very high risk victims of domestic abuse).

Summary of Post
We are looking for a warm compassionate, dynamic IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) will offer one to one non-judgemental empowering and proactive support to (i) non-recent female victim-survivors of domestic abuse that require a support plan and are assessed as standard to medium risk. (ii) families experiencing child to parent violence, with a priority of sibling safety, who may need a safety/support plan. They may be assessed at standard, medium or high risk. IDVA work is client led and focuses on addressing clients’ identified needs, which includes emotional and practical support around domestic abuse. Typically, this may involve risk assessing, safety planning, signposting, advocating, liaising with other agencies. A commitment to safeguarding runs throughout this role. You must be willing to flexibly adapt to changing circumstances and needs.
A key purpose of this role is to enhance the safety of individuals and children in their homes and communities whilst empowering clients to continue on their recovery journey.
The service provides a safe space for victim/survivors to discuss issues relating to their experiences freely and without judgement. Clients will be supported in whatever decisions they make and be assisted in accessing other agencies as appropriate to their individual circumstances and wishes. Our approach is within a multi-agency framework consisting of Victim Support, Social Services, Police MARAC, Mental Health services, Housing and the Criminal Justice System partnerships to ensure a holistic and trauma-informed service.

Responsibilities
We are recruiting National Domestic Abuse Helpline Advisers to provide support and information to women experiencing domestic violence and other forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG), family and friends supporting them, and associated professionals, by providing, trauma-informed emotional support and practical help, led by the caller’s needs.
You will participate in answering helpline calls on a 24 hour rota system, assessing each call individually to ensure the highest standards of support. You will be involved in making referrals to women’s refuges and other agencies where appropriate, and complete reporting and evaluation data for the service.
Essential Skills or Experience
You will have an awareness of domestic violence issues, together with the ability to assess the needs of callers to the helpline. In addition you will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a non-judgmental and confidential approach to supporting women. You will be well organised and have a demonstrable ability to use Microsoft Office. The ability to remain calm and resilient is essential, as is an up-to-date knowledge of housing, criminal, civil and welfare rights legislation relating to domestic violence.

About The Access Project
We support high-potential students from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain access to top universities, through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring. We work with them to make good applications, get the grades and transition to university. The programme combats educational inequality and improves social mobility by raising students’ grades and supporting them to understand the pathway to a top university. Our results show this approach works.
According to our 2021 Impact Report, 92% of our students applied to a top University and 86% were offered a place at a top University. The Access Project students gain up to six months of extra progress after two years of tuition. Our ambition is to reach more young people whilst maintaining this exceptionally high impact.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced tutors with a love of learning to support disadvantaged students to reach their full academic potential whilst still earning a competitive market rate for their tuition expertise.
As part of our commitment to raising student attainment we are in the third year of piloting a new approach to tuition for A Level students enrolled on The Access Project’s programme. This pilot tests the feasibility and the impact of small group tuition (3-4 students) delivered by experienced tutors. Tutors that deliver the pilot will have a strong association with our mission to widen access to top universities as well as being high quality tutors.
Successful applicants will deliver tuition via our online platform to small groups in either English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, or Psychology A Level. Tutors will responsively plan their lessons to suit their groups members’ strengths, weaknesses and learning preferences.
There will be the opportunity for flexible working but applicants should have a minimum of three hours per week to devote to tutoring The Access Project students.
