The Minerva London service provides holistic, trauma-informed support for women in touch with the Criminal Justice System. We do this through offering dedicated one to one support, safer women’s centre spaces and specialist interventions and partnerships.

To be successful as the Community Key Worker you will need the below experience and skills.

You will be working in a supportive, friendly, and welcoming team whilst having oversight of a caseload of women, who may be under the supervision of the National Probation Service or in custody, enhancing the offer of holistic support and advocacy services available to them throughout their journey.

Building relationships with other statutory and non-statutory agencies in local communities is vital to build referral pathways and provide a whole system approach to supporting individuals.

To carry out this work you will meet women in the community in your designated borough and co-locate with other agencies including the National Probation Service, as well as regularly attending Advance’s vibrant Kent Women’s Centre/office space.

You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. You are confident professional relationship builder and has good awareness of Safeguarding procedures. Strong Administration skills and understanding of compliant behaviours also experience of supporting. With good knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of other support provisions.

About the role

Working in close collaboration with the Senior Mass Fundraising Lead, the role will manage and deliver a variety of community-led fundraising initiatives and dynamic challenge events that engage supporters and generate vital unrestricted funds for children affected by neuroblastoma.

You’ll contribute to improving the supporter experience by helping develop fundraising resources, gathering case studies, and assisting at events and collections, often supervising volunteers with clear guidance and support (occasional evening and weekend work required, with time off in lieu).

You’ll also manage stock of fundraising materials, coordinate replacements through suppliers and internal teams, and provide essential administrative support, including data entry and financial processing (training provided). To thrive in this role, you'll need strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, excellent time management, and a sharp eye for detail. A flexible, can-do attitude is essential, as is a willingness to stay busy, get involved across the team’s varied work, and embrace learning opportunities to deepen your understanding of the charity sector and Shelter’s vital mission.

We want to create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence. 

The charity currently has 4 staff members (Chief Executive, Fundraising & Communications Manager, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Administrator) and 8 Speech and Language Therapists working for the charity on a sessional basis. The sessional workers oversee our 1to1 support and aphasia cafes. The charity has over 60 volunteers who provide the 1to1 support and help run our aphasia cafes.

The Role:

Aphasia Support is looking to recruit a Community Engagement & Volunteer Officer who will work with the charity’s speech and language therapy team and volunteers in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley to ensure our support reaches the people who need it most. 

We envisage this to be a split role: 

• 3 days focused on ensuring people in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley receive timely support through the charity's community-based Aphasia Cafe's and at-home 1:1 speech and language therapy service.

• 2 days focused on overseeing the charity's volunteer recruitment and retention programme, ensuring Aphasia Support's valued volunteers receive the best possible experience, utilising their time and resource to create the biggest impact.

This role is offered on a fixed term basis until 31st July 2026, however the charity is hopeful the position will continue beyond this point.

Main duties will include: 

·Processing of new referrals into the charity alongside the current SLT Assistant. Contacting new referrals and outlining the charity’s 1to1 support and aphasia café support offer and completing initial referral paperwork via phone and email.

· Gaining a thorough understanding of the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity and supported conversation techniques. You will work towards being the resident expert on the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity.

· Matching people with aphasia with volunteers for our 1to1 support service within West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley.

· Completing initial appointments in the client’s home alongside volunteers. Taking speech and language therapy assessments and turning them into clear therapy plans that can be delivered confidently by the volunteers.

· Provide ongoing advice and support to volunteers and clients.

· Provide home based 1to1 support for clients, if required.

• Leading on volunteer recruitment for all areas of the charity by liaising with the charity’s Fundraising & Communications Manager alongside branch committees, volunteer centres, universities, colleges and NHS volunteering teams.

· Screening of new volunteers and administering of reference and DBS checks.

· Leading on the charity’s quarterly volunteer inductions.

· On occasion supporting the charity’s event fundraising calendar which will require some evening work.

· If required, supporting the running of the charity’s aphasia cafes.

· Completing other tasks which are commensurate with the role

Person Specification

Essential

· Good general level of education or equivalent work-based experience

· Excellent organisational skills and time management skills.

· Good administrative and record keeping skills including strong attention to detail.

· Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully both verbally and in writing

· Good technical literacy of Microsoft Applications e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

· Experience working with CRM databases, and maintaining accurate records

· Highly confident user of technology, specifically iPads, with a willingness to learn about speech and language therapy apps.

· Good interpersonal skills including listening and display empathy

· Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships

· Demonstrates understanding and ability to manage self, and work with others at all levels

· Demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for supporting people with aphasia and their carers.

· Have access to a car for work purposes and hold a full current UK driving licence

Desirable

· Experience of supervising volunteers or mentoring/coaching others

· Previous experience of working in the third sector and supporting people with disabilities and/or people who are socially isolated.

The Role
Identify, develop, plan and execute a calendar of virtual and physical community fundraising and engagement events and activities, for exmaple, a local Christmas Market, identifying third-party fundraising initiatives and virtual challenges, or leading on the identification and/or development of national events.

Oversee logistics, which may include venue booking, supplier sourcing/coordination, risk assessments and event-day management. Ensuring all events and activities comply with health and safety regulations, risk management policies and GDPR guidelines.

Build your virtual events community through effective use of social platforms/activities, which your Marcoms colleagues will support you to identify and deliver.

Develop and implement stewardship plans to encourage repeat participation and wider engagement in the charity.

Support participants in their fundraising efforts, providing fundraising specific guidance and resource.

Work with the Marcoms team to develop and deliver promotional materials, social media campaigns, and PR opportunities.

Manage events and budgets, ensuring cost-effective planning and maximum ROI.

You will manage an administrator and be supported by a strong team of fundraisers, a marketing department set up to support the development of community activity.

The Candidate
Experience in event management, ideally within the charity or community sector.

Strong fundraising knowledge and experience in income generating events and techniques both physical and through digital channels.

Budget management experience and ability to work within financial targets.

Strong project management and organisational skills.
