Overview
Since our establishment in 2017 many funders, community members, professional partners – not to mention mums and minis - have bought in to our vision and seen our project grow to a staff team that hovers around the 15, and a turnover well above £500k. Our success means that we are now looking to recruit to a new and vital role of director of operations. This critical role will work alongside the CEO to make sure that our ideas and ambitions are matched by sure-footed implementation, safe structures, and workable policies.
You will ensure efficiency, compliance, clarity, reporting and calm in the running of our fast-moving, multi-faceted grassroots charity. You will be the unwavering back-stop behind the exciting innovation, and the busy front-line. Your organisational skills and operational expertise will create and maintain a structure which is safe, sustainable, efficient and transparent - while being agile enough to allow our volunteers and staff to pivot when necessary in order to meet the ever-evolving needs of our mums and minis.
This leadership role includes line management of project leads, staff and volunteer recruitment, reporting and budget management, HR responsibilities the development of policies and procedures, as well as occasionally deputising for the CEO
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Work within the charity’s mission, vision and values, and strategic plan to ensure and oversee the smooth running of all day to day activities of the charity.
- Work to create, maintain and deepen our culturally competent, anti-racist, decolonised, psychologically-safe environment for all mums and minis, staff, volunteers and visitors.
- Ensure that – as a charity – we are always ambitious but operating within our means in remain fully accountable for every penny and hour that we spend.
- Centre Management
- Provide strategic oversight and support for project leads in their delivery of projects and programmes at the centre, ensuring alignment with charity objectives.
- Provide line-management support to Play, Resources, Kitchen, Finance and Fundraising leads.

- Foster a collaborative environment in which shared decision making is embedded, where all staff members and volunteers feel valued and where projects are well-integrated into the charity’s overall operations.
- Staff & Volunteer Recruitment
- Lead on all recruitment to attract skilled staff and committed volunteers.
- Create, update, and implement onboarding, training, and retention strategies.
- Promote diversity and inclusion in hiring practices.
- Work to further enable our ‘community first’ recruitment policy.
- Work to create a ‘staff handbook’ and a ‘volunteer handbook’ to aid with onboarding and induction.
- HR Oversight
- Work with external HR support provider to oversee employment contracts, benefits, for all staff, and support and supervision for staff that you manage.
- Work with HR to review and create fair, compliant and benchmarked employment contracts for all staff.
- Oversee and record holiday, sick, maternity and bereavement leave in line with charity policies.
- Ensure compliance with all employment laws and best practice.
- Work with our Finance Director to ensure smooth running of payroll, SSP and other contractual arrangements that are compliant and transparent.
- Policies & Procedures
- Develop and implement policies to ensure clarity, fairness, compliance, consistency and efficiency.
- Regularly review and update policies in line with best practices and legal requirements to a timetable in agreement with the board of trustees.
- Keep abreast of governance regulations and report to the CEO and on Trustee Board on GDPR, financial, safeguarding, and risk assessment policies.
- Financial & Resource Management
- Oversee and assist the Finance manager in creating annual and multi-year budgets,monthly management accounts, financial planning, resource allocation, reporting to funders and trustees to ensure transparency and sustainability throughout the charity.
- Implementing strategies to delegate budget-holding to project leads, and to ensure operational efficiency at all times.
- Facilities & IT Management
o Ensure smooth operations across physical assets and digital infrastructure.
o Oversee health and safety compliance within the charity’s building and off-site delivery.
o Manage external providers of HR, Salesforce and H&S functions.
o Liaise with co-tenants and freeholder as well on all building matters.
- Board Liaison
o Prepare for, attend and play a leadership role in quarterly Finance and Risk meetings as well as attending termly Board meetings

Skills & Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in charity operations, non-profit management, early years setting, or a related field.
- Management qualification a bonus but not essential.
- Strong HR expertise, including staff recruitment, salary benchmarking, and compliance.
- Experience in line management of project leads, with a track record of strategic oversight and performance development.
- Ability to develop and implement policies and operational procedures effectively.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, management accounts, and resource allocation.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Xero accounting software, Payroll protocols, Salesforce or other CRM systems.
Person Specification
- We are looking for a leader with a proven track record as Director of Operations, COO or Operations Manager in a similar sized organisation. .
- In this role, you will be able to gain the trust of the team by balancing kindness, care and compassion with competence and decisiveness gained from your years of prior experience in similar work. Above all, you will bring integrity and commitment to this role, in service of the mums and minis who make up our community.
- You will be confident in taking the lead on all your works streams while remaining in constant – daily, even hourly - communication and collaboration with staff, CEO, Finance, and Fundraising leads.
- You will unflinchingly interrogate our systems, policies and practices, while be extremely gentle with our people – creating psychological safety not only for all of our mums and minis, but also our staff and volunteers.
- Your attitude will be pragmatic and ‘can do’ as you carve a realistic path between confidence and caution when planning projects and delivery.
- You will understand that structure creates safety, but too much could be stifling – you will be emotionally and socially aware enough to walk this line.
- You will have experience of in line-managing project leads, with a track record of strategic oversight and performance development

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the CEO, and - on occasion - the board of Trustees, working closely with Finance and Fundraising leads, Project managers, and external HR and H&S provider.

Job Description
We seek a skilled and proactive fundraiser to support LP in submitting funding applications to support its partnership with LPD and developing long-term fundraising capacity. The first key task will be to collaborate with both organisations to create a strategic fundraising plan aligned with our programmes, with a strong emphasis on championing play and supporting adventure playgrounds in continuing their essential community work.
Key responsibilities will include developing and implementing a fundraising strategy to secure income from a diverse range of sources; and researching, identifying, developing and submitting funding applications and proposals to relevant trusts, foundations and other grant-making bodies.
The ideal applicant will have at least five years’ experience in fundraising, donor development, or grant writing – ideally including partnership arrangements – as well as a demonstrable understanding of the value of play and the outcomes it contributes to for children and for communities. We are looking for a proactive policy and corporate affairs professional to join the Police Now team and play a key role in shaping understanding of our programmes, build support amongst stakeholders, and lead the conversation on police reform and culture change.

The CRM Systems Manager champions and enables long-term customer engagement through the management and continued development of our CRM systems, primarily Tessitura. You’ll be confident writing SQL queries, using reporting tools like SSRS and exploring new technologies to extend our capabilities. Alongside this, you’ll be able to translate these technical ideas into plain language and deliver training that builds confidence and capability.

Job description
Job Purpose
To manage and develop the home from hospital settle service in the hospitals that you are responsible for, to support timely and successful patient discharges from hospital and prevent re-admissions. You will work in collaboration with hospital teams and community teams to lead and manage your team to support the smooth transition from hospital to home for service users. The service works with people for time limited support (usually up to 6 weeks) to adjust and settle back in their homes, and to prevent readmission into hospital.
Key Tasks
- Work in partnership with the hospitals and other health and social care professionals to coordinate safe and timely discharges for referred clients. This involves attending meetings with hospital personnel including Discharge Co-ordinators and Ward Managers to discuss discharges and plan who and how individuals will be supported as appropriate.
- Manage a team working across two hospitals and ensuring the service is available between the contracted hours.
- Work collaboratively with other agencies providing support services.
- Conduct initial assessments of people referred to the services as necessary.
- Plan and develop person centred interventions to provide short term support for people after hospital discharge.
- Work with GPs as appropriate in identifying and supporting patients to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.
- Work with people with a range of needs, dealing with issues ranging from social isolation and keeping people engaged in their community, to preventing unnecessary admission to hospital.
- Support the hospitals with delayed transfer of care (DTOC).
- Coordinate and monitor the caseload of referrals allocated to team members to ensure a fair and manageable distribution of work.
- Rota planning to ensure staff flexibility and availability, enabling planned rosters that best suit both hospital and patient needs.
- Develop your team which includes; supervision, appraisal, planning of continued professional development opportunities and training needs.
- Conduct regular management audits to ensure a consistent way of working and identify development and training needs in the team or individual.
- Develop and deliver a flexible service that can respond to peaks and troughs in demand.
- Ensure the service is meeting key performance indicators, and identify any concerns e.g. demand for the service exceeding the levels in the contract and taking proactive action to address this.
- Monitor performance of the services against KPIs and produce reports to demonstrate performance.
- Deliver front-line services when needed, e.g. sickness or staff shortages. This is by exception rather than you regularly doing support work.
- Manage the budget, sign-off expenses, and ensure the project is delivered to budget, liaising with the Finance Department as necessary.
- Support the directorate with generating funding e.g. being actively involved in consultation of possible projects, providing activity data, opportunity spotting, and/or supporting the production of tenders.
- Occasionally provide weekend on call cover for the services you manage, and other hospital settle services provided by AUKEL.
Administration
- Lead on contract reporting, this includes quarterly annual and ad hoc reports
- Carry out annual customer service surveys.
- Maintain electronic records of referrals and interventions to assess service impact, support local improvements, and report on KPIs
- Meet and produce reports as required by the Head of Service.
- Ensure patient records are regularly updated through AUKEL database, and support staff to complete their administration via training etc.
- Work with the Communications team and the Head of Service, market and promote the service.
- Build and circulate a resource pack for the wider AUKEL team to generate referrals between services delivered by the charity.
Quality
- Be familiar with and implement AUKEL policies and procedures.
- Ensure the service is delivered in accordance with Care Quality Commission principles.
- Ensure a cycle of continuous improvement by taking a “lessons learnt” review approach.
- Ensure that the requirements of the contract specification for the services are met.
- Ensure integration with other AUKEL projects, and service users are referred/sign-posted to appropriate support services available to them.
- Respond to safeguarding or other concerns and take appropriate reporting and management action.

Liaison
- Represent AUKEL and participate in appropriate external meetings and events and remain aware of local, regional and national issues affecting AUKEL clients.

General

The role
We are looking for an experienced part-time NEBOSH or IOSH qualified Health and Safety Manager, who will lead manage and develop our health and safety requirements and responsibilities around working outside and around water.
We have a health and safety management plan which following on from our Health and Safety audit, has outlined the framework for this role and what is needed to be implemented over the next 12 months.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Work with both Head of HR and Operations Manager on certain aspects of office Health & Safety with as and where necessary
- Project manage and deliver all requirements of the new created H&S Management Plan
- Work with managers on Construction Design Management (CDM) health and safety
- Track and ensure that risk assessments are being completed within teams for events and elsewhere where required in Thames21
- Work with HR and line managers to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) are created, updated and reviewed periodically
- Deliver the H&S induction session with new joiners when and where applicable
- Work with the Operations Manager to ensure vehicle checks are conducted in accordance with the vehicles policy, and that all drivers are trained in the use of the inspection checklists and all aspects of vehicle inspection.
- Compile a quarterly incident report to the Head of HR
- Manage the incident reporting system, escalating serious incidents (including risks) to senior management
- Manage a programme of safety audits to reporting these to the management team
- Manage and run the quarterly H&S group meetings and keep track of progress of actions that have been assigned
- Conduct training sessions on other related health and safety as and when required

We are working in partnership with a Richard House Children’s Hospice to secure their new Events Manager. Richard House helps children and their families in East London to lead as happy a life as possible when dealing with a life-limiting health condition. From the moment a child is diagnosed with a life-limiting, life-threatening or complex health condition everything changes. These changes affect the whole family, which is why Richard House feel it is vital not only to provide care to the child but to support the whole family. As a member of the fundraising team, you will directly support the charity’s work, as the majority of their services are funded thanks to the generosity of their supporters.
The Events Manager will develop an events programme that delivers excellent supporter-care to all fundraisers and supporters taking part in an event or organising their own activities, maximising income from these fundraising streams. Harnessing current supporters and leading the growth of our existing network of community and event supporters is key to this role, with a focus on developing pro-active individuals, corporates and groups wanting to engage with and support events. The role will be hands on, focused on operational delivery, supporting crucial short- and medium-term funding impact, as well as longer-term and sustainable corporate income for Richard House.
