Clinical Trustees

We have a vacancy for clinical trustees who have worked in health or social care to join our board of trustees, to be part of the full board and our clinical sub-committee. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic to support the organisation with their skills and knowledge to continue to deliver a service that is safe and meaningful to its service users. We are particularly keen to meet a candidate who has experience in community neurological services and safeguarding.

We are a charity with 30 years’ experience of providing physical, emotional, and social support to adults with long-term neurological conditions in Richmond and neighbouring boroughs. Our passionate, professional service helps individuals and their carers to achieve a greater quality of life, enhancing their long-term well-being. INS has up to twelve trustees and has three subcommittees Clinical, Finance and Fundraising and Marketing.

Working with fellow trustees to shape, drive and monitor the charity’s strategy.

Commited to attending 3 Clinical Committee meetings per annum (on average lasting 1.5 hours), as well as four full board Trustee meetings (1-2 hours) • Prepare for and participate fully in board and sub-committee meetings.

Ensuring the proper management and administration of the charity.

Using any specific skills, knowledge or experience you have, to help the board of trustees reach quick and sound decision by leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

• Represent the needs of carers and cared-for individuals on our Board

Ideal Individual will have:

• Experience as an unpaid carer or recipient of care services

• A passion for advocacy, inclusion, and social change

• Willingness to learn about governance and contribute to strategic discussions

We have developed a 12 month programme for two Associate Board Members. These roles will work alongside the AND Board of Trustees, and have been designed as a development  programme aimed to support potential candidates who do not yet have (sufficient) board-level experience, or the required availability, but have the passion and potential to be a future AND Board member.

The Associate Board Member roles have been created to support individuals who are currently under-represented in the cultural sector, providing greater access to training opportunities, and to add further diversity and richness of perspective to the organisation.

Associate Board Members will:

• bring unique experience from their field of expertise 
• share our passion for new ideas and artforms
• place inclusion and engagement at the heart of our culture and vision
• be provided with relevant shadowing, mentoring or training opportunities to support their skills development over 12 months
• attend quarterly AND Board meetings (without legal responsibility or voting rights) 
• have the opportunity to apply to become a Board Member after 12 months

Practical Details

AND’s Board currently meets for a minimum of four times a year, through a mix of online, and in person meetings in Manchester (UK). There are additional, occasional meetings and sub-committee groups which can be attended via video call. We are particularly interested in hearing from North-based candidates, especially those with regional public sector or commercial business expertise, although we are open to applications from candidates from across the UK.

This is an unpaid role. You’ll need to commit around a day a month to the role. AND will reimburse reasonable travel expenses to meetings in full.

We want to change the perceptions of male caring and fatherhood and support more partners to get involved because it creates value for everyone.

Supporting men to be equal and active parents from the start is key for gender equality. Research from Sweden suggests that every additional month of paternity leave taken by fathers increases the mother’s lifetime earnings by 6.7% (Johansson, 2010).

80% of the gender pay gap is attributed to the motherhood penalty (World Economic Forum, 2022)

The gender pay gap more than doubles for women over 40 (ONS, 2022)

Yet despite increasing willingness and interest in taking an active parenting role, in 2022, dads spent, on average, just 55 minutes per day with their children (ONS, 2023).

This is largely due to the fact that one in three working dads don’t feel comfortable talking to their employer about family commitments and/or are not adequately supported to be the best dads and partners they can be.

We have developed an affordable, comprehensive online platform called "Father's Ed" that provides guidance, support, wellbeing services and a community for new or expectant fathers. This includes peer support between dads, science-based online, digital well-being courses covering a range of strange and anxiety triggers, e. g. financial well-being, loneliness, insomnia, etc.). We are also working on providing mental health services for new fathers through partnerships.

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? We're looking for 2 energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser volunteers to increase the fundraising opportunities for the charity as well as developing corporate partnerships, legacy giving, individual giving and major donors. This role may also include:

• Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events
• Project manage fundraising events, from inception all the way through to evaluation
• Recruit and promote supporters and volunteers for challenge and national events.
• Assisting with researching and approaching corporate entities for event sponsorships, partnerships, Charity of the Year partnerships, and donations from corporate foundations
• Writing emails and speaking with potential partners about the work of Burning Nights CRPS Support with the aim of securing funds for the organisation

• Keeping in contact with current & past donors and assisting in finding new donors
• Communicating with past fundraisers and encourage them to consider fundraising in the future
• Assist in marketing our events

Key & Desirable Skills:

• Fully computer literate and fully able with the main Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint as well as the internet and email
• Knowledge of using CRM systems or ability to learn

• Good initiative and ability to work with little direct supervision but will ask when help is needed
• Be comfortable volunteering within a small team or by yourself

On the project you and a fellow volunteer will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to take part in a wide range of activities led by professional therapists and workshop leaders.

Our core activities are sports & games, arts & crafts, drama and music. Previous additional workshops have also included photography, football and cooking and you’ll plan your own exciting outing around London with a fellow volunteer and the Kith & Kids member you're linked with.

Not only is it a time full of fun and games for you and our members, you are a vital part in supporting them to develop their social skills in a day-to-day environment.

What you need
You do not need experience. Full disability awareness training will be provided before you begin volunteering with us.
The only requirements we ask of you are enthusiasm, energy and to be open-minded.
Minimum age for volunteers is 18.

How much time?
The project runs for 10 days, Mon 28th July – Fri 8th August (excluding Sat/Sun), 9:30am – 5:30pm  in North London.

Everyone gets the most out of the project if you come for the full ten days as you'll build a close relationship with the member you'll have been supporting and will create the most impact.

What about training?
Volunteers must attend training and complete a free DBS check before you begin volunteering.

This is a great opportunity to get to know everyone at Kith & Kids: your fellow volunteers, some of our members you will be working with, and also gives the opportunity to develop some new skills and expand your knowledge in our workshops.

When do I need to come?

We'll be running face-to-face training in north London starting on 24th May with lots of other dates to choose from.

In the meantime, we'll be meeting volunteers online from mid-April.  

Training will take place in North London – once we have met you online for a chat, we will send you confirmation of our training venue details.
