Job description

REMIX is a dynamic new start-up youth charity dedicated to remixing young people’s lives across London. Launching initially in the boroughs of Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Southwark, our mission is to break down barriers to social mobility for young people aged 11 to 26 from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We will deliver high-impact programmes focused on Mentoring, Life Skills, and Personal Development. We are currently in the crucial set up pre-launch phase, building our foundation, securing registration, and developing our initial strategy. We need exceptional Founding Trustees to guide us from concept to impact.

The Opportunity: Lead Our Launch and Strategy

We are seeking up to five Founding Trustees to join our inaugural Board. This is a chance to apply your strategic leadership and governance expertise to establish a vital new charity from the ground up.

As a Founding Trustee, you won't just oversee, you will actively contribute to the structure, financial sustainability, and strategic direction that will enable REMIX to successfully launch and serve thousands of young Londoners.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Governance and Compliance: Overseeing the successful completion of the charity registration process and establishing robust governance policies and legal compliance frameworks.

  • Strategic Oversight: Collaborating with the Chair and leadership team to develop and refine the charity's 3-5 year strategy, ensuring it effectively meets the needs of young people in our target boroughs.

  • Financial Sustainability: Providing expertise in financial management, oversight of initial budgeting, and supporting fundraising strategies to ensure long-term viability.

  • Ambassadorship: Acting as an enthusiastic ambassador for REMIX, leveraging your professional network to secure vital resources, partnerships, and high-quality volunteers.

  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating strategic, financial, and operational risks during the critical start-up and launch phases.

Who We Are Looking For

While we seek a Board with a diverse range of skills, we are particularly keen to hear from individuals with senior expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance/Accountancy (Essential for the Treasurer role): Experience in charity finance, financial planning, and audit preparation.

  • Charity Law/Governance: Expertise in charity compliance, legal structures, and best practice governance frameworks.

  • Youth Services/Education: Deep understanding of the youth sector, social mobility challenges, and programme evaluation.

  • Fundraising/Income Generation: Proven track record in securing grants, corporate partnerships, or major individual giving.

  • London Community Knowledge: Strong professional or personal ties to Hackney, Tower Hamlets, or Southwark.

Essential Requirements for all Candidates:

  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to look beyond the day-to-day operations.

  • Unwavering commitment to the mission of REMIX and improving social mobility for London youth.

  • Willingness to dedicate the time required to establish a new organisation, including attendance at quarterly board meetings and involvement in committee work.

Why Join the REMIX Board?

Joining REMIX as a Founding Trustee offers a unique opportunity for high-level impact:

  • Legacy: Establish the founding strategy and governance for a charity dedicated to fundamental social change in the capital.

  • Challenge: Experience the dynamic and high-energy environment of a charity launch, applying your skills to overcome real-world challenges.

  • Influence: Directly shape how effective, sustainable, and impactful REMIX becomes in the communities we serve.

How to Apply

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applications from all backgrounds, particularly those with lived experience of the issues REMIX addresses.

To express your interest, please contact us through this website.

We look forward to hearing how you can help us REMIX young people's lives. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged.
