About the role

We are looking for an experienced Social Worker to join our Birmingham Team supporting children and young people diagnosed with cancer.

We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality support tailored to the needs of the children and young people and their families. The work we do is rewarding but also complex and demanding. You will be part of a close-knit Young Lives vs Cancer social work team, working with established NHS multi-disciplinary teams and services in the community.

This role is hybrid working requiring two to three days per week to be hospital based. Your contractual base will be both Home and Hospital.

• Sound knowledge of child and young people development.

About the Patient Support Service

The Patient Support Service provides practical, emotional and financial support for anyone affected by chronic kidney disease. Whatever the need presented, we empower people living with CKD and their families and carers to understand their options and make informed choices to positively navigate their experience of CKD. We’ll walk alongside them for as long as they need us to.

About the Role

Our regional Patient Support Officers play a key role in establishing Kidney Care UK in their designated region and enabling patients, their families, carers and professionals to access independant support on social, financial, health advocacy and wellbeing.

You will proactively engage with kidney patients and their families as a source of advice,information, and support to improve care and wellbeing outcomes for kidney patients. You will seek to inform and empower individuals, providing the tools and knowledge to enable confident self-management and be the regional face of Kidney Care UK patient support services, raise awareness of the service and the Charity and build strong relationships with kidney patients, the renal units, Kidney Patient Associations (KPAs), health professionals and other kidney stakeholder groups in the region. 

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Patient Support Service across the region and the effective management of a caseload. This involves regular attendance at renal clinics in the region, building relationships with health and care professionals and being available for patients in the renal unit, on the phone or online, or to meet at a mutually convenient public location.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Liaise with and support patients and their carers face to face and by telephone to provide information, advice and support on a range of personal, emotional and practical matters.
• Through regular visits to renal units in your designated area, establish and maintain a presence to enable patients' easy access to Kidney Care UK support services.
• Promote and attend local health information events to raise awareness of Kidney Care UK and the benefits of its Patient Support Service with kidney patients, their families and relevant health professionals. 
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with the regional kidney community through fully engaging with KPAs, health professionals and relevant health and community stakeholder groups.
• Maintain accurate records to allow effective reporting on key performance indicators such as number of patients supported, type of support provided, key needs etc.

About you

You will have an empathy with our patient group and an understanding of kidney disease and the needs of people with kidney disease, their families and carers. You will be able to work independantly and have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and above all have the ability to deal professionally, calmly and sympathetically with people affected by kidney disease.

An understanding of the relevant UK benefits legislation and entitlements is essential as is having excellent IT skills, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel. You will hold an Advice and Guidance qualification or be willing to complete it within 6 months of service in the role.

The role is home based but you will need to live within the region that you are applying for and have the ability to travel independantly throughout the area on a regular basis and to attend national meetings/events as required. There will also be a requirement to undertake occasional evening and weekend work and some flexibility to be able to work some irregular hours to meet the needs of our patients.

The areas are as follows:

North East: Newcastle Upon Tyne, Sunderland and North Cumbria. This role is part funded by the North Gas Network through the vulnerability and carbon monoxide allowance fund.

South West: Cornwall, Devon, Exeter and Plymouth. This role is funded by Wales and West Utilities through the vulnerability and carbon monoxide allowance fund.

Objective:

2wish exists to provide support to anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under.

Aims:

• Ensure every Emergency Department and Critical Care unit has a suitable bereavement suite
• Ensure that bereavement boxes are available at each of these hospitals
• Ensure that immediate bereavement support is available for all affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide a professional counselling service and complementary therapies for those affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide support to individuals who witness the sudden death of a child or young person
• Provide support and training to professionals from any sector who may be affected by the sudden death of a child or young person
• To advocate and campaign on behalf of suddenly bereaved families

2wish Cymru & 2wish:

2wish has been established since 2012 and has grown from strength to strength. During this time, we have worked tirelessly to embed our service and ensure that the offer of support is made at the point of death. We offer an immediate, consistent, high-quality and compassionate service to all individuals affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under in Wales and the bordering counties in England, including; Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Avon and Somerset, with the plan to continue to roll out support to the whole of England. We work in partnership with professionals who refer int the charity on behalf of families, so they don’t have to trawl through the internet for an organisation who may, or may not, be able to support. We provide immediate, and ongoing, support and are here for as long as our families need us.

Context of role:

2wish support anyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. We are an All-Wales and part England charity providing immediate casework support, as well as ongoing aftercare services including counselling, alternative therapies, play therapy, support groups, support events and a respite cottage.

The post holder will provide immediate and ongoing emotional and practical support to families affected by the sudden and unexpected death of their child or young adult.

Main duties:

Service:

• To initiate immediate support for a caseload of families whose children and young people aged 0-25 have died suddenly and unexpectedly across the region
• To contact all families within 24-48 hours of the referrals by telephone
• Complete an initial assessment of families' needs to identify and plan the support as required in line with safeguarding and risk reduction
• Offer emotional support and advice to a case load of families through home visits and ongoing weekly telephone calls
• To liaise with the Counselling Support and Outreach Coordinator, who is responsible for organising formal support such as counselling, complementary therapy or play therapy, subject to consent from the bereaved individual
• To work with hospital staff, GP’s, police officers, coroner offices, mental health teams and other healthcare professionals to raise awareness of and promote referrals into the charity
• To liaise with other professionals working alongside the family to provide a holistic and multi-agencynapproach to support
• Attend relevant forums within the area
• To deliver awareness training in hospitals and other healthcare settings, schools and workplaces on the use of the bereavement boxes, referring into the charity and bereavement awareness
• To monitor the use of the memory boxes and ensure families have been offered a memory box
• To work with hospital trusts to establish and maintain the upkeep of suitable bereavement suites for bereaved individuals to use as required
• Facilitate debriefs within professional settings following a traumatic or sudden death of a child or young person
• To submit monthly/quarterly/annual reports to Bereavement Services Manager as required
• To signpost and/or refer to other agencies as required that can provide support as needed
• Cover members of the support team for annual leave and/or sickness

General:

• To be responsible for organising own work agenda, time management and administration
• To show respect and sensitivity for the cultural and religious beliefs of families
• To undertake learning opportunities and seek them out for the team
• To adhere to all company policies and procedures including Safeguarding, Confidentiality, Health and Safety and Lone Working; and to be proactive in implementing new safe working practices as appropriate
• To attend weekend and evening community events in support of the charity as necessary
• Participate as and when required in team meetings and one-to-one meetings, and undertake, as appropriate, courses/training/other developmental activities, which is relevant to the role
• Contribute on the social media platforms maintained by 2wish

It is the nature of the work that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All employees are therefore expected to work in a flexible way and tasks, which are not specifically covered in their job description may have to be undertaken.

You will be subject to performance review, which will incorporate a review of the above duties and performance over the period.

What we do for you:

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Normal office hours are 9am - 5pm, although alternative hours may be worked with line manager agreement. Work outside office hours may sometimes be necessary and will be compensated for by time off in lieu.

Annual leave: 28 days plus bank holidays. Annual leave steadily increases after five years of service. Annual leave and statutory holidays are calculated on a pro rata basis where applicable.

Pension: 2wish operate a contributory pension scheme. 2wish will auto-enrol you into the scheme in accordance with it's auto-enrolment obligations. This new community-based service will provide intensive support to children and young people aged 11–25 who are at risk of, involved in, or affected by serious youth violence.

Working closely with Police, NHS and safeguarding partners, the service will support young people who present at hospital with violence-related injuries, have been arrested or identified as being involved in serious youth violence, or who are vulnerable to exploitation, re-injury or further offending.

The service aims to intervene at critical moments, using trauma-informed approaches to improve safety, reduce risk and help young people access positive opportunities and support.

About this key role
As an A&E and Custody Mentor, you will provide intensive one-to-one mentoring and support to up to 40-50 children and young people annually who are affected by criminality, exploitation, gang involvement, or the justice system, improving their safety, wellbeing and life outcomes.

You will respond quickly to referrals, often following a hospital admission, arrest or safeguarding concern, using these critical moments as opportunities to begin meaningful engagement and support. Sounds great, what will I be doing?

This role provides specialist interventions to women living in refuge with multiple needs who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual violence. Holding a caseload across a number of refuges providing emotional and practical support and advocacy to the women accessing the refuge.

You will build strong partnerships with a range of statutory and community organisations, including mental health services, substance misuse teams, housing providers, healthcare professionals and voluntary agencies, to ensure women can access the support they need to recover and thrive. You will lead wellbeing-focused activities across refuge services, facilitate group programmes and community meetings, and support women to engage with services, appointments and opportunities that promote confidence, independence and social inclusion.

Using Hestia's trauma-informed and psychologically informed approach, you will provide personalised assessments, safety planning and strengths-based support for women with complex needs. You will deliver crisis interventions, support women to access therapeutic, financial and housing-related support, and help them develop move-on goals that enable long-term recovery and independence. You will maintain accurate case records, uphold confidentiality and GDPR requirements, and work closely with refuge teams to share knowledge and build confidence in supporting women with multiple support needs.

This role is within the Programmes and Partnerships team, which secures and manages funding from institutional funders. As a Programme Manager, you will lead day-to-day delivery and management of FIGO projects across the full project cycle. This will include the Advocating for Safe Abortion (ASA) programme, a multi-country initiative now in its seventh year, working with national professional societies of obstetricians and gynecologists across Francophone West Africa to drive change in policy, clinical practice and societal attitudes on abortion care. We’re looking for someone with:

• Proven experience of managing institutionally funded projects in global health or international development, across the full project lifecycle.
• Experience managing advocacy-focused projects and working with a diverse range of partners across multiple countries.
• Strong skills in financial management, donor reporting and partner coordination.
• Experience developing and implementing monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks on projects.
• Fluency in both English and French (written and spoken) — essential for this role.

This is an exciting training role in Army Cadet Headquarters responsible for the governance of risk in the Army Cadets.

In this critical organisational safety role, you will both generate medical risk assessments and assure those generated by others. You will ensure appropriate medical governance and compliance processes are in place, including identifying organisational clinical risks and recommending appropriate policies. You will oversee incident reporting and trend analysis to support continuous improvement.
