Key Responsibilities

− Reach out to older adults through phone calls, home visits, or community events to reduce loneliness and promote social inclusion. 

− Assist in organising and supporting local events, activities, and outreach initiatives.

− Help coordinate and promote access to services such as information and advice, health and wellbeing programs, and social activities.

− Support with data entry, maintaining volunteer and participant records, and administrative tasks as needed. 

− Help distribute newsletters, flyers, and promotional materials.

− Assist in raising awareness about Age UK Croydon’s services through community engagement. 

− Respect client confidentiality and uphold the dignity and independence of older people.

Job Description

SAPUK is looking for volunteers to assist with our support services, which run daily from 6am to 11pm. Volunteers will engage through our instant messaging support line, which operates via Meta and offers anonymous communication via our website. The service is managed through a free app, available for download on all smart devices.

Over the years, our dedicated team has supported countless individuals, helping them overcome feelings of distress and guiding them away from the darkness. As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a compassionate team, committed to providing life-changing support.

SAPUK offers regular training to help volunteers enhance their skills and gain invaluable experience. Volunteers will become part of a supportive, collaborative team that prioritizes mental health and the well-being of both those we serve and our volunteers.

Volunteer Requirements:

• A minimum of 6 hours per week (one shift, or split into two 3-hour shifts).
• Flexible shift options to fit your schedule, with shifts ranging from 6am to 11pm.
• We’re looking for individuals who can commit to at least one shift per week, though we’ll work to accommodate your availability.

• The researcher will help to collect information that can be used as an evidence base to help inform future activities, and also in exhibitions, workshops, and community events. 

• We are looking for a self-starter who can source, collect, and share relevant materials independently. You will also be working closely with our Professional Development Programme participants in relevant areas such as Marketing and PR.

• Provide written reports as and when required. To undertake additional duties as required for the role.

The Professional Development Programme with Quilombo UK runs over a period of 16 weeks, is UNPAID and requires a minimum of 12 hours commitment per week across Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.

Upon successful application, our HR team will contact you to arrange an interview. Following a successful interview, we'll initiate the onboarding process by sending you the necessary documents. Once your onboarding and identification documents are received and verified, you'll be invited to a 6-hour HR and System Induction. Mary’s Living & Giving Kew has become a much loved destination for followers of pre-loved fashion and a community hub for the wonderful residents of Kew. Located minutes from world famous Kew Gardens we welcome lots of UK and international visitors too.

Our Kew Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Ealing Foodbank is looking for Trustees. We would particularly welcome applications from those with experience in one (or more) of the following areas: fundraising and communication.

Who we are

Ealing Foodbank is a local charity, serving people in Ealing who need emergency food. We are open 8 times a week at 7 locations around Ealing. We give out around 1300 food parcels a month. We want to make sure people visiting the foodbank get the right help to resolve their crises where possible. We work together with Crosslight advice (debt and benefit advice) and Ealing Law Centre (housing and benefit advice) to achieve this.

Being a trustee

As a trustee you can use your skills to contribute towards supporting those in crisis in our local community.

As Trustee you will be expected to:

• Understand and support Ealing Foodbank’s work and aims
• Reflect our vision, values, strategy and policies
• Work closely with the rest of the board to formulate and review our strategic aims
• Ensure our policies and practices are in line with our aims
• Ensure Ealing Foodbank functions within the necessary legal and financial requirements
• Ensure resources are used effectively and efficiently
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of the organisation
• Make time to read necessary paperwork
• Attend board meetings
• To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders
• Use your skills, wisdom to benefit the board and organisation
• Fulfil other duties as required occasionally by the board

Skills, attributes and experience

• Knowledge of (can be gained) and commitment to the work of Ealing Foodbank.
• Willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board.
• Willingness to act in the best interest of the charity.
• Sound, independent judgement and ability to think creatively.
• Working effectively as a team member and demonstrating a willingness to learn and develop.

Time commitment

Trustee meetings are held 6 times a year, normally in the evening from 7pm at our office. Trustees are expected to undertake additional work for the charity between meetings, subject to their availability and skill set.

 Please note the Trustee role is voluntary and unremunerated, though reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.

Are you passionate about helping women build their lives beyond crisis? We are recruiting for volunteers to support victims of Domestic Abuse on a 1 to 1 basis. This is a chance to empower other inspirational women by building their confidence and teaching them new life skills in order to achieve their ambitions and goals. You will be supporting women and children to rebuild their lives free from fear!

What you will be doing

• To develop and promote a positive relationship with the service user through regular meetings
• To encourage service users to engage in social activities and supporting them in doing so
• To support your befriendee in developing their goals and social skills
• Encourage your befriendee to make links with community services, based on their identified goals
• To support and help the service user to get familiar with their new environment/area/community and show them where the local shops, GP, etc are located
• To plan activities with your befriendee, such as a walk, visiting museums
• Manage appropriate boundaries

The skills you need

• Have good listening and communication skills
• Be non-judgmental and motivational in approach
• Willingness to engage in activities in the community
• Able to maintain strict confidentiality and follow operating guidelines
• To be consistent and dependable when working with a service user
• Lived in experience and ability to speak another language such as Hindu, Urdu, Farsi, etc would be desirable but not required
