We are seeking two dynamic, strategic thinkers to join our Board of Trustees. We are looking for individuals who will bring insight and challenge to our innovation journey, help us to strengthen our global digital presence, and help us to deepen our engagement in UK and international markets, particularly across Asia. This is an exciting time to join our client as a Non-Executive Board Member. Following a recent skills audit and upcoming board rotation, they are now recruiting at least five new board members. Their boards play the role of critical friend – advising on governance, strategy and connectivity, while ensuring they stay true to their values, mission and community purpose.

Board Members who live locally, within their Area of Benefit. These board members will bring lived experience of the neighbourhood and a commitment to its future. No formal board or professional experience is necessary, but they would particularly welcome local applicants with knowledge of finance, HR or housing and property.

Co-opted Board Members who do not need to live locally but will bring specific professional expertise in one of the following areas:

• Finance – Qualified accountant with experience of financial strategy and oversight
• HR –  Strategic leadership, ideally with experience chairing or contributing to HR and remuneration committees
• Housing – Specialist knowledge of social housing, property management, or asset development

Volunteering in the shop

Our gorgeous shop in historic Windsor has been at the heart of the community since the early 1990’s (it’s truly vintage!) and has in recent years been transformed into a bespoke Mary’s Living & Giving store. 

Our Windsor Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Bgen, the Botanic Gardens Education Network, is seeking a new Treasurer Trustee to join its Board. This unpaid voluntary role offers a unique opportunity to support a small, but passionate charity at a pivotal moment in its growth.

Bgen is a specialist support network for professional plant and natural world educators. We help our members to connect people and plants in innovative and engaging ways, through online events, face to face training and networking events and our Annual Conference.

We are looking for a Treasurer who will bring enthusiasm, commitment, fresh perspectives and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board. The successful candidate will combine professional financial knowledge and experience with a deep commitment to supporting our mission in this vital non-executive role.

As our new Treasurer trustee, you will play an active role within the Bgen Board and provide leadership on its financial health, ensuring robust processes, accurate records and sound-decision making with transparency and accountability.

Availability and commitment

 As a Board member you will need to be able to attend up to six board meetings per year (held online) and the Annual General Meeting, organised in January – February each year. You will also spend around 2 -3 days per quarter in between meetings, to prepare the quarterly accounts, provide advice and coordinate payments, with support from the Bgen Coordinator and Bgen Bookkeeper. Days may vary throughout the year, depending on activity.

On the 7th or 9th October, we are hosting a Bgen Board Strategy Away Day at Birmingham Botanical Gardens and your attendance would be extremely helpful.

This position would be for a period of three years minimum (term can be renewed after this time).

As a Volunteer Education Mentor, you'll join a dynamic team to deliver 8 mentoring sessions over 8 weeks aimed at building group rapport and covering essential topics like communication, goal setting and problem solving. Join the governing body ('the Corporation') of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College to determine strategy and monitor performance of a further education college with a mission of aiming high and changing lives.

What will you be doing?

West London College is a further education college with three centres located in Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall. For nearly 150 years, we have been providing training and development in the area, helping over 10,000 students achieve their career goals each year. The College has a governing body ('the Corporation') made up principally of governors appointed from outside the College to take legal responsibility for the College and make key decisions about how it is run. 

Governors are individuals with broad skills and experience drawn from local communities and businesses, as well as from the public sector. The Board also includes staff members, student governors and the College’s CEO. The CEO (the only executive member on the Board) is responsible for the operational running of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College (EHWLC). 

The Board is advised by a Director of Governance, a professional independent of college management who accesses independent professional advice. The CEO and Board are also supported by a ‘senior leadership team’ with educational, financial and other relevant expertise. The Board, CEO and leadership team work together to set and implement college strategy and to be responsible stewards of the college’s assets.

What are we looking for?

The College has adopted the Education and Training Foundation's competency framework for governors and uses it for recruitment and performance purposes. Prospective governors should be able to evidence the majority of the Leadership and Values/Behaviours below. Developing expertise across the Technical elements will be supported by College staff and through participation in relevant training and development opportunities, for example via the Association of Colleges.

Governors will typically come to the College with a specific area of professional expertise. They need not be experienced in all of the areas highlighted.

It is not necessary to have worked in an educational setting in order to serve as a college governor – indeed, the college benefits from outside perspectives just as much as experience from other schools, universities and colleges.

What we expect is a commitment to the mission, vision and values of West London College, a willingness to make a full contribution and the ability to devote the time required to make that a reality. Taking into account preparing for and attending formal meetings, visiting the colleges, and attending training and networking events, this is likely to be around 6-10 hours per month. Formal meetings are a combination of in-person and online events.

You can make a difference…Age UK Wandsworth is a small, local, independent charity that has been working with older people in the area since 1963. We rely on your support to keep serving the older residents with in the Wamdsworth community. We have a dedicated team of experienced staff and a large network of dedicated local volunteers. Our aim is to enable everyone to age well in Wandsworth. We would love your help to be able to continue to support older Wandsworth residents.

Our Be-a-Friend service is one of our longest running services, matching people over 65, who live alone and have limited social contact, with a friendly local volunteer with similar hobbies and interests. The volunteer and their new friend set up a suitable time for them to meet each week for a chat and a cup of tea, which could be during the day, in the evening on the way home from work or even on the weekends . If you would prefer to volunteer from home, you can also be matched with an older person for telephone befriending. For many of our matched pairs, this is the beginning of a firm friendship. 

Befriending Plus

Befriending Plus is an extended version of the Be-a-Friend programme, for individulas needing help with life admin and small tasks as well as companionship. For Befriending Plus pairs, time spent together can include helping to use a phone or tablet, helping the client to organise their file, going out for a coffee or popping to the post office together. This support can help older people to stay independent at home for longer, as well as increasing their confidence to do these tasks when the volunteer is not there.

Refettorio Felix is a community kitchen with an open-door policy in the Earl's Court area. We provide a safe haven and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those facing homelessness and financial crises.

Using surplus food ingredients, our kitchen freshly prepares a three-course lunch for up to 140 people per weekday. We are looking for friendly and dedicated volunteers to support us in our mission to provide fresh and nutritious meals to our guests.

Your support will have a meaningful impact on the quality of lives of the most vulnerable members of the community. From trained and experienced Chefs to keen home cooks, we would love to hear from you!
