This role is key to building Aspire’s visibility in the local community and connecting with individuals who may be in need of support but unaware of available services. Outreach volunteers help create a warm, informed bridge between Aspire and the public.

Community Co-Lead

Role Type: Volunteer
Time Commitment: Flexible – support at 1–2 events/month or as needed
Location: In-person at walks/events

About the role:
This is a people-first role. As Community Co-Lead, you help ensure everyone feels welcome and looked after at events. You’ll be the warm, grounding presence who checks in on attendees, helps ease social nerves, and sets a kind tone for the space.

You might enjoy this role if you:

Help raise awareness and funds for Teckels in your local area. Our Community Volunteers champion our work, represent Teckels at events, and inspire others to get involved.

What you’ll be doing:

• Hosting stalls at local fairs and events
• Supporting supermarket collections or Pets at Home fundraising days
• Collecting donations and bringing them to the Centre
• Putting up posters, handing out leaflets, or sharing social posts
• Hosting fundraising events like bake sales or pub quizzes
• Supporting our fundraising events like the Spring, Summer and Winter Fairs and the Winter Ball

A bit about this role

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best – whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What can you expect to be doing?

This is a really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with:

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins
• Online fundraising – setting up online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised
• Marketing – spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  
• Completing administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

The Ark Gedling is a Christian charity that exists for the prevention and relief of poverty and hardship; it is a UK registered charity and a member of Advice UK. It provides a community café, with a range of activities to support community development and mutual support, which operate in conjunction with advice sessions, so that local people receive expert advice alongside compassionate community support and empowerment. It works in close partnership with other charities and with local churches. We are excited to announce we are recruoting new trustees to support the project into a new phase in our 20-year history.

As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. Network covers East Kent area -Dover, Canterbury & Thanet, working in predominantly in local area. Please Note that we are only accepting new volunteers from Canterbury and Dover eastwards Expected to undergo a DBS check & e-learning modules. To progress to a community first aider, a candidate would be expected to undergo a 2 days of face to face training in addition to regular training opportunities to maintain and develop skills, delivering 80hrs of volunteering annually across the Network area

Once you have completed your interview, screening and DBS check you will complete a two day First Aid course over two weekends as well as complete online training and then be mentored by one of our first aid volunteers. In order to practice and hone your skills as well as to cover events across the East Kent area we will expect you to commit to 80 hours of events. This does not include weekly training nights.

What is involved?
This role involves helping out at The Talk Shop making this a warm, friendly place for local people to connect with each other and with Cliik and other community organisations in the area. This could include:
● being available to meet and greet people who pop in to the shop,
● making refreshments;
● providing sign-posting to other agencies, as required;
● supporting people with form-filling;
● supporting or organising simple activities for people to engage with, for example, craft activities.

What will you get out of it?
● You will meet new people, learn new skills and enjoy sharing some of your existing skills. You will have the opportunity to make a difference in the community and to feel like you are a part of a local organisation run by local people for local people.
● When you start, you will be given training and information you need to carry out the role. You will have regular supervision and support. You will be able to demonstrate experience working with people in any future job application and get a reference which explains the work that you have done with Cliik at The Talk Shop.

What we ask for
● Volunteers need to be welcoming to people who visit The Talk Shop and to be able to get on with people from a wide range of backgrounds. We expect all of our volunteers and staff to treat everyone in our community with respect.
● We ask for a regular commitment of at least one weekly slot, usually around 3 hours.
● Because the role involves meeting people in the community, some of whom may be children, young people and vulnerable adults, building relationships with them, and holding responsibility for sometimes being alone in The Talk Shop, we will need to follow safer recruitment procedures.
