Families with a new baby can face many different challenges, there is so much for new families to think about and cope with.
KCC’s ambition is for every family to receive the support they need, when they need it during this challenging but rewarding time.
So how can I help?
As a Volunteer you will help insupporting families to have access to the information and tools they need to care for and interact positively with their babies and children, and to look after their own wellbeing.
You will help to provide positive guidance, encouragement and sign post people in the direction of other resources to help them navigate this important time in their lives.
This is a flexible opportunity where we work together to understand what you can offer in terms of time; in turn you will receive full training fully funded and ongoing support.
What will I be doing?
You could be speaking to individuals one on one, manning a drop in session even running your own group sessions if you wanted to, however the main tasks will be:
- Increasing awareness & understanding of subjects.
- Support with baby & infant feeding.
- Assistance with early communication, play and learning.
- Providing non bias advice, specific support and services to families
- Signposting those who need it in the direction of other resources & services as appropriate (such as how to register a birth through to finding financial support, childcare options, SEND information etc…)

Do I have to have experience or qualifications?
No qualifications needed! You don’t need to have any special training or qualifications to apply, having said that, ideally a Family Coach role would be best suited to someone who has some form of the following:
- Parenting experience or some form of caring experience of babies & or young children.
- Have a non-judgemental attitude & understand about the pressure of bringing up a family.
- Have great communication skills - listening is a very important part of this role as well as providing support
- Be able to understand how important confidentiality is & ensure you respect this at all times
Sounds good! How do I become a Family Coach?
Good question. Initially get in contact so we can chat more. There is lots we can tell you about training and support but we only have so much room on these job advert boards! Here is some other information you might find helpful!
Training and Support:
- You will have 5 training sessions initially that will equip them to start as a Family Coach. This will be a mixture of online & face to face training which can be fitted in to suit you.
- There will be additional training sessions throughout the duration of your volunteering period.
- Volunteers must commit to undergo referencing and an enhanced DBS check (organised and paid by KCC)
- You must understand that support provided to families is completely confidential and follow KCC’s information governance and data protection policies (explained to you throughout the training).
- You must understand and follow multi-agency safeguarding processes (explained to you throughout the training).
- Fully trained, supervised & supported by KCC & Family Hub staff throughout your journey.

Service: Perinatal Support for Partners Service
This is a service that offers fathers and non-birthing parents, who’s partner is being supported by the West London perinatal mental health service, an evidence-based 1:1 assessment to support their mental health and wellbeing. The service signpost partners to relevant services (including a PSFP peer support group).
Role Description:
To support our PSFP Service with a variety of tasks such as conducting a 1:1 assessment, (which includes onboarding to the service), co-facilitating monthly peer support groups, signposting and helping partners to access other organisations, taking care of our inbox emails and other administrative duties.

Main responsibilities:
To work closely with our PSFP caseworker supporting referral enquires & service-users in accessing this service. Co-facilitating a monthly peer support group.
Tasks:
- To answer emails and enquiries for the service within our service level agreements
- Triage clients for the service through an onboarding process.

- Provide support to our PSFP caseworkers, as and when needed
The type of person we are looking for is:
We welcome applications from those completing studies in Psychology, Counselling/Psychotherapy, or any Allied Health Profession with a focus on supporting those with mental health needs. However, your attitude, motivation, and commitment are just as important as your training/qualifications, or any previous experience. We will review all applications individually and assess them on their unique merits, so do not be discouraged from applying if you do not meet all the criteria listed below. We encourage applications from those with lived experience of mental health problems, as well as those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
Essential:
- An interest in supporting those with mental health needs to access PSFP
- An appreciation of the complex factors that can precipitate, maintain, and exacerbate mental health problems
- Good oral and written communication skills (including listening skills); the ability to communicate in a patient, considered, and empathetic manner
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to follow administrative procedures
- A team player who is willing to chip in and work reflexively, responding to the challenges that arise from working in a dynamic environment
- IT skills – able to update spreadsheets, use web-based applications, video-conferencing software, and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable:
- Customer Service experience, including with friends and family
- Experience of supporting people with mental health needs, in a voluntary, paid, or personal capacity, (i.e., friends and family)
- Previous involvement with local community groups/networks
- Awareness of the cultural barriers that may exist to seeking mental health support
Time commitment and expenses:
- 6 hours per week, during our core hours of 10am - 4pm.

Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and support.
For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Companion volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required
- Represent the Marie Curie Companion service positively to those using the service

Client Support volunteer-Burnley
You will be an invaluable part of the team supporting the Shelter Lancashire hub team deliver frontline services in Burnley and in local community settings. This volunteer role is about developing your knowledge and skills to support local people with a range of benefit, debt and housing issues, providing practical support for clients and helping people to help themselves. You will gain experience of volunteering within a recognised national housing charity, while supporting your local community.
Suggested Involvement: minimum of 4 hours per week (can be more & can be flexible around your commitments).

As a client support volunteer your activity could involve phone, online, email and face to face contact (as appropriate) to clients needing help and guidance around a range of housing, benefit and debt issues. Our volunteers champion the rights of young people in care and on the edges of care, support them to access advocacy and make their voices heard. Training is provided. Whether you are currently studying, recently graduated, working part-time, retired or between jobs, volunteering with Coram Voice is a great opportunity to make a difference at the same time as gaining experience of working for a national children’s rights charity.
Our Helpline Supervisors will support you to develop valuable advocacy skills and knowledge of children’s rights and we offer specialist training in safeguarding, equality and diversity and advocacy. The role is for a Befriender in our Tenancy Sustainment Teams in the London Boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, and Wandsworth and we’re now recruiting for volunteers. We would particularly like to hear from you if you live in or near the above boroughs.
The Tenancy Sustainment teams support people on their first steps from homelessness to independence – providing accommodation and support to assist people off the streets.
We work with people who are have experienced rough sleeping and, once accommodated, SPEAR then works with people on a housing pathway and assists them to link into various support services, tailored to the challenges an individual might face.
SPEAR is looking for self-motivated, outgoing, and empathic people who could volunteer to provide support to vulnerably housed, rough sleepers, or anyone using homelessness services in the London boroughs of Richmond, Wandsworth, Sutton, and Kingston.
The volunteer will enjoy developing positive relationships with new people and will be willing to work outside of their own comfort zone providing befriending support to the clients. The volunteer must have an enhanced DBS background check (SPEAR will apply for this on your behalf.)

Who are Acorns Children's Hospice?
A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life limiting or life threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns Children’s Hospice steps in. Our dedicated teams provide specialist tailored care, including complex medical care, short breaks and emotional and practical support for babies, children and young people and their families, at our three hospices in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester as well as in the community.
Why we need you
At Acorns we know that children and young people growing up with a poorly brother or sister often have less attention from parents and more worries and responsibilities than their peers. Acorns has a dedicated Sibling Support Team who run Sibling Group sessions to provide fun experiences for young people and allow them to meet others who may be in a similar situation to them. Sibling activities include arts and crafts, games, sporting activities and fun trips out.
What you'll be doing
- Volunteering alongside our Sibling Support team
- Attending a Sibling Group planning session with our Sibling Support team every couple of months to hear about plans for forthcoming activities.
- Attend a Siblings Group session once a month, joining in with the activities.
Our Sibling Group sessions for the Gloucester area, usually take place at Hartpury Village Hall. Although you may be asked to join us at our Worcester Hospice for initial training and have the opportunity to visit the hospice again when we have siblings visiting or staying with us.
How much time will it take?
Sibling Volunteers complete our online basic training modules and our in-person sibling training session which together take 4-5 hours to complete. Once trained, volunteering with us is flexible but we ask for a commitment of one Sibling Group session per month and hospice-based sibling volunteering on an adhoc basis.

Our archive and library are permanently housed at our London Office. This role would suit someone working towards an archive or record management qualification, with an interest in social and cultural archives and history.
Main Duties
- To assist in maintaining a comprehensive archive and library encompassing both digital and physical assets representing the rich history CPAG.
- Collaborating closely with the Office Manager and CEO, your role will involve developing an efficient and user-friendly framework for the ongoing management and preservation of the archive.
- Listing, describing and boxing records.
- To develop a basic ‘collections policy’ outlining future collecting and simple archiving procedures for organisational maintenance.
- To use your knowledge of archiving processes to support staff with cataloguing archive contents.
- To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.
- This includes applying archival principles and standards, enhancing the archives research and historical value.
Commitment
The role requires a minimum commitment of at least 3 months, 7-10 hours per week during our working hours (Monday-Friday, 9.00am to 4.30pm).

Sport and Advice Hub Volunteer
Young Roots aims to improve the wellbeing and life chances of young refugees and asylum seekers. We work directly with young refugees and asylum seekers in the UK and operate through trusted community-based partners in Lebanon.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are looking for volunteers to join our weekly Sport and Advice Hub in Brent. The Sport and Advice Hub is a space where 11-25 year old refugees and asylum seekers come to play football, cricket and other sports and also seek support with issues in their lives. It runs in Willesden every Wednesday from 4.45pm to 8pm.
The role would be a floating role between sports, board games and English class or on reception. So it is a chance to get involved in different activities!
You will be available to start w/c 20th May 2024.
In this role you will:
1. Provide a safe and welcoming environment for young asylum seekers and refugees
2. Help at the reception table with registration and finding out what kind of support the young people need (casework, mental health, immigration, social activities).
3. Help the Youth Development Worker and Coordinator to set up and run games and other activities at the youth club such as table tennis, cooking, board games, group discussions, feedback sessions.
4. Run a table where young people can practice English informally, contribute to sports activity, or support young people applying for jobs/volunteering
5. Assist the project staff to effectively deliver, monitor and evaluate the project.
6. Respect confidentiality and contribute to debriefs after the session.
7. If interested, to help on occasional trips locally and in central London (weekdays and/ or Saturdays).
PERSON SPECIFICATION
You will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

JOB DESCRIPTION
Marie Curie Helper is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Helper volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and support.
For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Helper volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required
- Represent the Marie Curie Helper service positively to those using the service

You will support our Administrators and front line workers with a range of administrative functions to support them with their daily activities and workload. This will give you the opportunity to be involved with a variety of administrative duties including filing, writing notes and supporting the front line workers with the administrative preparations of their group delivery and updating of their client case notes.

Accountabilities
Service Delivery – Client support tasks
· Support administrative staff and front line workers with data entry onto database system.
· Provide assistance at reception/in admin office answering and taking messages and transferring phone calls.
· To assist with filing and maintaining of administration records in an orderly user-friendly system.
· Support front line staff with administrative paperwork required for group sessions or group meetings.
· To assist with minute taking.
· To maintain confidentiality and data protection principles, raising any issues with your line manager as appropriate.
Additional tasks
· Engage in support and supervision provided.
· To keep a good record of your work, including reporting verbally to their supervisor and completing relevant forms.
This may vary depending on your specific team and time commitment.
Expenses
