Salary: up to £29,000 per annum  

Location: Rothbury / Newcastle area - Home working with frequent travel to Rothbury and Newcastle-upon-Tyne (2 to 3 times a week)  

Full time (35 hours per week)

Project background 

The Wildlife Trusts have an opportunity to secure the historic and vast Rothbury Estate for nature, local people and the nation and are currently seeking funding to achieve this and develop a vision for the Estate by: 

• Carrying out surveys, appointing specialist contractors and listening to local people, farmers, visitors and other stakeholders to better understand the needs and opportunities of the site for nature, people and communities  

• Engaging local, regional and national audiences to enhance understanding of this heritage landscape

• Working with local and national stakeholders to co-create a new integrated approach to land management where nature recovery will underpin sustainable farming, climate resilience, public access and resilient/connected communities 

This project will lay the foundations for the future of the Rothbury Estate, a future which will see it become the heart of a 40-mile nature recovery corridor across northern England. 

This project is led by the Royal Society for Wildlife Trusts (RSWT) working in partnership with Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

About You 

We are looking for a talented communications professional to work with The Wildlife Trusts on a transformative partnership project focused on the historic Rothbury Estate in Northumberland. 

You will be a motivated, resilient self-starter who also thrives as part of a team. You will be experienced in working in a Communications and Media team, developing, analysing and evaluating impactful stories and content across different print, digital and broadcast channels to drive action. You will be adept at communicating with mass audiences from a diverse mix of backgrounds, with a creative flair and ability to create clear and simple messaging that educates and inspires people to act. 

You will be adept at finding and writing stories that are likely to generate media interest, with a good understanding of the news agenda and ability to keep abreast of current affairs. Your ability to make great connections with people on the ground will be a crucial part of this. 

You will be a strategic thinker with excellent attention to detail, used to balancing multiple priorities and using your initiative, whilst working against tight deadlines. A talented and creative team-player, you will need to work with a number of teams across the central charity, RSWT, including communications, press and media and community organising, as well as colleagues from Northumberland Wildlife Trust and across the 46 Wildlife Trusts and individuals within the community as we build a mass movement of people taking action for nature.

Our People Operations Manager is responsible for the development and delivery of our people processes, systems, and administration, ensuring that they are fully fit for purpose. Reporting to the People Director, you will be joining a highly supportive and friendly People Team, committed to working together to provide a high-quality and responsive service to the organisation.

While your main focus will be our UK people operations, you will also engage with our country offices around the world, developing an understanding of their people operations and working with them to maximise efficiency across the organisation.

The role is varied including optimising people processes and systems, managing and developing our global HRIS, configuring and rolling-out new systems/modules (e.g. global ATS, UK payroll), overseeing UK and international payroll administration and UK pension and benefits, managing our UK business sponsorship licence and sponsor duties, ensuring a high-quality information and reporting service to internal stakeholders, and working on global people projects and initiatives.

You will have substantial experience managing people operations at a similar level, developing, implementing and managing systems, processes and administration relating to all stages of the employee life-cycle. You will be comfortable configuring, managing and maintaining a HRIS. You will have a thorough understanding of UK payroll processes and UK pension regulations, as well as a thorough understanding of UK employment and immigration law. Experience as a SMS Level 1 User is desirable and experience managing a global HRIS would be an advantage.

You will have excellent people management skills and will enjoy collaborating and consulting with colleagues around the globe to understand their needs as we strive for continuous improvement. Your interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to build effective and productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels across Fauna & Flora.

You will have a methodical and rigorous approach to work and a meticulous attention to detail. Excellent numeracy and data analysis skills are also essential, as is knowledge of data protection legislation and fluency in spoken and written English.

The Role

Arne is not only a brilliant Dorset bird watching spot, it’s also one of the few remaining places where all six of the UK’s native reptiles can be found. Situated on Poole Harbour and within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty this Dorset nature reserve is a thriving visitor haven attracting people of all walks of life; landscapes don’t get much more breathtaking than Arne. It’s a rich patchwork of habitats, home to a huge array of wildlife. Explore wide-open heathlands where reptiles roam, as well as ancient oak woodland humming with bird song, farm fields where Sika Deer stags rut and wetlands where Spoonbills wade. Still want more? How about discovering wading birds among the mudflats, watching Dartford Warblers darting about in the scrub, and spotting seals from the shoreline.

We carefully manage Arne's unique mix of habitats to create the ideal conditions for wildlife to thrive. As a threatened habitat in the UK, our lowland heath is of particular importance and many rare birds including Dartford Warblers, Woodlarks and Nightjars call it home. But it’s not just birds - Smooth Snakes, Silver-studded Blue Butterflies, Ladybird Spiders and Yellow Centaury (a rare heathland plant) can also be found at Arne.

While expert wildlife knowledge isn’t required, you’ll need:

About the LATA Foundation

The LATA Foundation was established in 2007 by members of the Latin America Travel Association (LATA) to support social and conservation projects throughout Latin America. The LATA Foundation aims to empower local communities, build capacity in the NGOs we support, and help protect the places we all love to visit. The foundation is proud to have donated over £550,000 to carefully chosen and vetted grassroots projects. 

We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to maintain the ongoing progress of the Foundation and continue moving the Foundation forward, building on the work of the Fundraising and Volunteer Manager.

We are seeking maternity cover for the Fundraising & Volunteer Manager starting November/December 2025. The position will be open until the Fundraising & Volunteer Manager returns to work, or 14 months from commencement, whichever is sooner (no later than end of 2026). The exact end date is contingent on the postholder's confirmed return and may change within that limit, we will provide a minimum of four weeks’ notice of any adjustment.

About the role

The postholder will lead on fundraising including income generation, strengthen donor stewardship and communications, and coordinate the effective contribution of our volunteer network. Acting as the Foundation’s principal fundraiser and a key public representative, you will design and deliver fundraising campaigns and partnerships; produce clear, impact-led communications across channels; and ensure volunteer activity is planned, resourced, and aligned to organisational priorities.

Core responsibilities:

Fundraising

• Lead regular-giving acquisition and onboarding; plan and deliver fundraising initiatives/events with the team.
• Build and manage the fundraising programme and pipeline.

Donor Communications

• Own the communications calendar and delivery (newsletters, e-shots, key messaging) and steward donor relationships.
• Develop targeted mailing lists; oversee social media and core collateral/presentation updates.

Volunteer Management

• Recruit and onboard volunteers; support project, fundraising and trustee teams.
• Coordinate meetings, minutes, follow-ups and information flow; monitor the enquiries inbox.

Representation

• Act as a spokesperson and advocate for the Foundation at events and in the media.

Essential experience & skills

• Charity sector experience, especially fundraising.
• Strong organisational skills; able to juggle multiple deadlines.
• Experience managing a team and/or volunteers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Confident networker with events experience.
• Solid digital skills: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Mailchimp.
• Experience managing digital comms and social media.
• Willing to attend some out-of-hours events.
• Self-starter; comfortable working on your own initiative.

Desirable

• Travel industry experience.
• Knowledge of Latin America.
• Spanish and/or Portuguese.
• The team attend the office once a week in West Kensington (London), attendance is desirable.
