As a Membership and Retail Volunteer you will actively engage with our visitors and encourage them to support WWT as members. Enthusing them with stories of our conservation work and the many benefits of membership, you’ll help us secure the essential support we need to continue our ambitious plans for wetlands conservation.

And if you have an eye for something special and can offer excellent customer service to every one of our visitors, even better. You will also be a support to our retail team and help keep up the great work in offering a wide range of items for them to take home. Experience is always welcomed but not essential as training for this and our membership processes will be provided.

What will you be doing?

Helping build the team – devising ways to attract talented people who bring key skills to the team

• Recruitment - vacancy promotion and administration - helping us track down people who bring key skills to strengthen our teams
• Using our Assemble platform, administer staff onboarding and offboarding processes
• Creating a positive environment and recognising volunteers for their contribution – so people want to stay involved
• Work with the HR team on surveys and addressing survey outcomes
• Optional: policy reviews in any areas of expertise

Additionally:

• Also supporting staff in relation to encouraging them to access training and shaping a positive culture within the organisation
• Helping to coordinate the work of the volunteer team – especially in relation to supporting events such as nature walks and hands-on planting or environmental improvement work

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with HR knowledge and, ideally, someone with recruitment experience in either being a volunteer or supporting other volunteers. 

• Capacity and experience to manage the full recruitment cycle
• Previous experience of being a volunteer or supporting volunteers
• A friendly personality and an ability to relate to people from different backgrounds
• Good organisational skills and confidence in the use of online systems
• Self-starter, happy carrying out tasks independently or as part of a team
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Access to a computer and the internet at home and be confident using them
• Be able to commit to volunteering regularly to suit your availability with occasional attendance at meetings
• An interest in the countryside and environmental issues

Availability:

A six-month plus or long term commitment is preferable.

7-10 hours per week, flexible, hybrid work pattern, but office attendance some Thursdays very useful.

InterVol is a student volunteering charity in the United Kingdom that connects students with volunteering opportunities locally and overseas. InterVol supports students to develop their skills with community projects in the UK and then use those skills to support the work of charitable partners overseas on health, education, refugee support, and conservation placements. Community researchers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park ensure our community-owned park is inclusive and welcoming for all.

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.

Limited Access to Art-Based Education & Economic Opportunities – Many young people, especially out-of-school youth and teenage mothers, lack access to creative and vocational training programmes that can equip them with skills for self-reliance and economic independence.

High Rates of Teenage Pregnancies & School Dropouts – Limited knowledge and resources on sexual and reproductive health contribute to early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and high dropout rates among girls and young women, restricting their future opportunities.

Lack of Environmental Awareness & Sustainable Practices – Communities often lack the knowledge and integration of environmental stewardship in education and daily life, leading to unsustainable practices, environmental degradation, and missed opportunities for eco-friendly innovations.

Usanii Village Africa provides creative and vocational training in fields such as Eco-Artistry, carpentry, fashion, and design. By integrating art with practical skills, young people—especially out-of-school youth and teenage mothers—gain the tools needed for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

To combat early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and school dropouts, Usanii Village Africa equips young people, particularly girls and young women, with essential knowledge and resources on menstrual health, reproductive rights, and gender equality. CPRE Buckinghamshire (part of CPRE – The Countryside Charity) is looking for a Trustee with a background, or strong interest, in the local farming community. This Trustee will take the lead in our campaign to support sustainable farming and agricultural practices, and will help us to partner with relevant groups, with the aim of enhancing and protecting Buckinghamshire’s wildlife and countryside. 

This volunteer role would suit someone living or studying in Buckinghamshire who would like to be involved in campaigning and sharing their expertise with other Trustees, volunteers and members of CPRE.

You will ideally have experience of, or a deep interest in, sustainable farming, and agricultural practices that ensure food production without compromising the environment or future generations' ability to meet their needs. Your expertise will help us to demonstrate how farming today can focus on reducing its impact on ecosystems, can promote biodiversity, and can minimise energy use.

As a Trustee, you will also be part of our small and collaborative Trustee board. You will help to deliver our strategy, vision and mission, and guide the future direction of CPRE Buckinghamshire. Along with the other Trustees, you will ensure that the charity has the necessary policies and resources, complies with legal requirements, and adheres to its governing document. 

This is a volunteer team that typically works remotely, though some occasional face-to-face meetings may occur when needed – we will pay expenses in these instances. We estimate that the commitment would be around 2–3 hours a week, but you can of course do more if you wish!

If you have experience in writing grants and funding applications, corporate fundraising, philanthropy, or any other aspect of fundraising, it would be great to hear from you.
