The role
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and ambitious Business Development Manager to lead our organisational efforts around income generation. The role is ideal for someone with experience in fundraising and/or business development interested in leading the work of a small but impactful and highly respected charity in the health and social care space.
At National Voices, fundraising responsibilities are shared across the organisation, so it is important that the successful candidate is able to work in a collaborative way with others and is just as happy with rolling up their sleeves and writing bids and supporting others to.

While your primary role will be raising funds for National Voices, you will need to be confident in acting as an ambassador for the organisation and in conveying who we are, what we do and the key priorities of our members and people who use health and care.
Responsibilities
Maintain and grow a strong pipeline of funders and clients
· Overseeing the work of our Membership, Development and Partnership Officer in bringing together weekly information on publicly advertised funding opportunities, periodically testing new search words in line with our strategic and commercial interests.
· Ensuring we have access to relevant tendering frameworks.
· Maintaining a pipeline of charitable Trusts and Foundations.
Write and submit bids, and support others to
· In some instances, leading on bid writing – drafting, costing and submitting high quality bids for both project and core funding.
· In other instances, buddying with staff members on bids – carrying out initial call with funders to check fit of projects, supporting with budget development, sharing previous relevant tender responses to support bid writing, supporting submission, leading on the social value response and more.
Support and co-ordinate fundraising efforts of the staff team
· Co-ordinating the triaging and prioritisation of funding bids within the team, in line with our strategic priorities.
· Matching project ideas from across the team with funding opportunities.
· Organising fundraising meetings and ensuring the organisational income generation tracker is up to date.
· Supporting members of the staff team to develop their business development and fundraising skills.
· Providing advice and support to the wider team on compliance with our organisational ethical fundraising policy, the ABPI code, the ABHI code and the Code of Fundraising Practice.
· Maintaining our rate card.
Maintain and develop relationships with prospective funders, clients and organisations we may wish to partner with on funded projects
· Maintaining and developing relationships with grant funding teams at pharmaceutical companies – keeping them updated on our priorities and pitching potential projects for grant funding.
· Alongside other managers and the Senior Management Team, maintaining and developing relationships with development teams at organisations we may want to partner with – consultancy firms, think tanks, research agencies and more.
Manage our partnership scheme
· Take lead responsibility for client management and renewals for organisations on our partnership scheme.
· Coordinate responses to partnership requests within our staff team. Co-ordinate, develop and oversee the delivery of our partnership offer.
General
· Line-manage staff, in the first instance our Membership, Development and Partnership Officer, to include appraisals, setting objectives, monitoring performance and supporting development.
· Review our income generation approach regularly and making suggestions for improvements, using insights from both successful and unsuccessful bids.
· Report progress on our income generation to the board on a quarterly basis.
· Take a pro-active approach to including our members and people with lived experience in all areas of our work.
· Follow processes set out to measure, monitor and communicate the impact of our work.
· Support good project, financial and data management.

Our approach to hybrid working
We recognise the importance of coming together regularly, in-person, as a team, so we can share learnings and spend social time with each other. We also recognise that people need flexibility, and that homeworking enables focused work and can fit well in people’s lives.
We ask all staff to take part in pre-arranged team meetings which take place every six weeks in our office space. We also might ask you to meet in-person with members of your team from time to time, or to be available for face-to-face meetings with clients and partners where this enhances the work.
We assume that this would usually not amount to more than one day per fortnight for people who work full time.

The Gender & Peacebuilding Adviser will work within Gender Team and Policy and Advocacy Team to deliver Saferworld’s gender, peace and security (GPS) and gender equality strategy with a focus on ensuring strong links between organisational programmes, research, comms and GPS advocacy at all levels. They will provide technical support in the following areas:
- In close coordination with the Senior Gender Adviser and the Global Policy and Advocacy team lead on the development of GPS advocacy strategies and tools that can be used to effectively influence change beyond direct programmatic impact.
- Advise on producing and disseminating research and analysis and supporting programme and policy teams to produce, disseminate and implement this analysis within a gender-transformative approach.
- Support gender-focused advocacy and communications efforts at sub-national, national, regional and international levels, with a focus on ensuring local and national learning and analysis to feed into and shape international GPS research, policy and advocacy priorities
- Connect programmatic issues and global policy, advocacy and communications on GPS to ensure they are complementary and conducive to external change based on evidence from the ground; the post-holder will lead an organisational vision and process to ensure advocates across Saferworld work together to increase our collective impact and contribute to collective learning on GPS, in close coordination with the Global Policy and Advocacy Team (GPA).
- Provide advice and support for the implementation of Saferworld’s Gender Equality Strategy in programmes across the organisation, working with country teams and with gender coordinators, advisors and focal points. Provide capacity-strengthening initiatives and coordinate Gender Reference Group meetings, brown bags, and information exchange sessions to facilitate internal knowledge sharing.
The post-holder will be committed to inclusive ways of working, with a strong understanding of working in multi- cultural settings and accompanying people and processes, including partner organisations. They will support Saferworld’s international programmes and global policy teams to increase Saferworld’s collective influence and impact on gender peace and security through strategic research and advocacy

The evaluation team works with schools and organisations, analysing the impact of programmes and interventions to help them do more of what works and less of what doesn’t. We work with more than 1,400 schools and 80 education organisations, serving more than a quarter of million pupils. This includes helping our partners to design high-quality research projects, delivering them, and providing systems and tools for data collection, reporting and impact benchmarking.
Opportunity 1:Manager, ImpactEd Evaluation
The Manager role works across ImpactEd Evaluation. Our partners encompass education organisations such as charities, edtech organisations and government, and schools and multi-academy Trusts. We aim to deliver high-quality research and evaluation projects that help our partners make better decisions to benefit young people.
You will act as a consultant on a range of different partnerships to help partners develop their evaluation strategy and approach. For example, you could deliver independent evaluations for organisations like the Careers and Enterprise Company, Nesta or multi-academy Trusts such as Lift Schools. You will also have opportunities to contribute to development of team strategy and learning and development resources.
As a manager you will act as a project lead, delivering high-quality research projects at scale, and support the creation of specific deliverables for projects led by others. This covers the end to end of research design and delivery, including the creation of Theories of Change and evaluation frameworks, data collection and analysis, and impact reporting to help our partners learn about the effectiveness of their programmes. At manager level you will have the opportunity to take on larger-scope partnerships supported by a project sponsor at senior manager level or above.
Opportunity 2: Manager - Research Partnerships, ImpactEd Evaluation
The Manager role works across ImpactEd Evaluation but with a specific focus in our TRAPs team (targeted research and action projects). The TRAPs team are responsible for our national research projects, and work with both individual schools and groups of schools to sign them up to research cohorts: ensuring they can both contribute to a national research programme as well as gaining specific insights for their own school improvement journey.
You will act as a lead on a range of different partnerships to help partners develop their strategy and approach. For example, you could lead on the management of a key multi-academy trust, or could be supporting other team members with individual school partnerships, as well as supporting the Associate Director of TRAPs with overall research project design and planning. You will also have opportunities to contribute to development of team strategy and learning and development resources.
As a manager you will work closely with an Associate Director, lead on school group account management and support with the overall running and development of the TRAPs team.
About You
We are open to a range of backgrounds, but would expect prior experience of research and evaluation delivery and partnership management. Experience and understanding of the UK education system would also be an asset. The Communications team mostly comes into the office at least once a week. You may also find it useful to visit member hospices. You can work remotely for the rest of the time. Equally, you may prefer to work from the office full-time.

It’s an exciting time to take on this refreshed role as Digital Marketing Manager at Hospice UK. After significant investment in our digital infrastructure and an overhaul of our communications strategy in recent years, we’re looking for someone to take our digital offering and supporter engagement to the next level.
Line managing a team of two, and with shared oversight of the organisation’s brand, this role leads the delivery of key digital marketing products in the organisation, including our Dying Matters campaign. It’s an influential and visible role within the organisation, and has the great privilege of overseeing the telling of deeply moving human stories of grief and compassion at the end of life.
The Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for creating a rich and varied online experience for Hospice UK’s supporters. Overseeing our digital marketing and content strategies, you will work with powerful personal stories of hospice care, loss and grief. Your goal is to use these to inspire our public audiences to get behind our mission to make sure end of life care is there for everyone who needs it.
You’ll be a key member of our External Affairs directorate, and you’ll manage our digital content and marketing team, leading the delivery of key campaign and marketing content and products. The team is currently made up of three people. You’ll have a sophisticated understanding of how to get our audiences’ attention through effective use of tools including Meta Business, Google search and email marketing.
We recognise that search engine optimisation (SEO) and user experience are both critical to achieving our business objectives. You’ll lead on planning content that is SEO-optimised to get us appearing in front of as many people as possible, and structured in a way that gives users a top-class online experience.
Our social media channels have undergone a transformation since our brand refresh in May 2024, and are now engaging our supporter base – and those new to hospice care – in a highly effective way. You’ll lead the team that plans and produces content for both our member and supporter-facing social channels, finding new and engaging ways to keep growing our social presence.
We’ve made great strides over the past 18 months in working much more effectively with our Income Generation directorate across appeals, organic social media and paid social marketing campaigns. You’ll be a key part of the continuation and development of our work here, sourcing stories and content that further develops our success in these spaces.
With a highly motivated Membership Engagement team in place to strengthen our position as a membership body with the UK’s 200+ hospices, you’ll collaborate with this team to identify opportunities to work with our members for things like photography and filming, social media, and other campaign-related content.
You’ll have a key input into the delivery of content for Hospice UK’s flagship campaigns including Dying Matters and Hospice Care Week. With shared responsibility for brand development and guardianship, the role has significant visibility across the organisation, requiring strong relationship, motivation and influencing skills.
This is a reshaped role which comes at an exciting and important time in Hospice UK’s digital evolution. We’ve significantly invested in our digital footprint and infrastructure in recent years, with a new website and CRM, and a recently completed digital fundraising and social media strategy review now ready for implementation. OUTLINE OF THE ROLE
Work with the Trustees to devise and lead new fundraising initiatives that fulfil the objectives of the Trust's Fundraising Strategy and annual income budget, with particular focus on regular giving across all alumni, gifts from high-net-worth individuals, and legacies. This will involve:
• Developing and delivering improved communications to build a stronger connected donor network.
• Locating, engaging and retaining alumni to support and promote the Trust, focused on ensuring their long-term impact on the Trust and its beneficiaries.

KEY TASKS

• Improve communications
The Trust has a strong, growing, and engaged network of loyal alumni who already support the Trust's beneficiaries through fundraising and volunteering. However, the Trust's communications need to be improved in order to increase the numbers of donors who provide sustained financial support and inspire all donors to raise their level of donations. Continually find opportunities to engage new donors and ensure clear consistent messaging.
• Manage and maintain donor data
The Trust needs to maintain a full and accurate database of all donors and fundraising activities to support long-term tracking and inform future fundraising. This also requires networking among alumni and being vigilant to changes in alumni data.
• Research and approach alumni whose connection with the Trust has lapsed
Continue to grow the active network through researching and motivating dormant and lapsed alumni to reconnect with the Trust.
• Research untapped prospects
Research the database with a view to identifying dormant and untapped opportunities, especially regarding
high-net-worth individuals and legacies. Ensure fundraising approaches are well-targeted and informed in order to maximise the chances of success. This will expand to include non-alumni sources, including institutional sources such as foundations and other trusts.
• Ensure long-term donor connection
Communicate with all donors to demonstrate the impact they can make by showcasing the current and long-term outcome of programs. Deliver a diverse selection of communications to engage different audiences, with a clear plan for all members of the network. Ensure donors are connected to the Trust, value the Trust's activities and actively help fund opportunities.
• Reporting to the Trustees
Create an annual donor impact report to the Trustees, and other stakeholders such as alumni, that delineates donor statistics, reviews communications and events that have taken place during the past year and identifies potential prospects and events for developing in the coming year. Also provide a lower-level oral report of fundraising activities and communications to the Trustees at their quarterly meetings.
• Deliver income growth target
Acquire enough new donations to meet agreed annual income growth targets set by the Trustees.
You will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the charity and its overall objectives. For instance, organizing fund-raising specific events in different regions. This position could evolve into a full-time commitment with a support team, but at the present time, support to this role will be provided through the existing network of volunteers.

The Industry Decarbonisation Lead will shape SteelWatch’s position on steel decarbonisation to inform our change-making strategies, provide overall management and cohesion across our work on data analysis and industry insight, and act as a spokesperson in conversation with industry stakeholders.

SteelWatch is an international climate campaign organisation, driving corporate accountability and action in the steel sector. Our vision is a steel sector that underpins a thriving zero emissions economy. We are a change-making organisation, with the task of driving change in an entrenched, powerful, technologically-confident sector that faces little climate pressure. SteelWatch is a non-profit registered in the Netherlands in 2023. Having grown to a team of 20, we are still a young organisation, learning-by-doing, working with fluid teams not rigid structures, ensuring we evolve, test, and learn. We run corporate campaigns and challenge the global steel industry to replace complacency with urgent action in line with the 1.5C limit. SteelWatch has established a strong visible presence among civil society and steel industry stakeholders. We are increasingly recognised as an authoritative and challenging voice on steel decarbonisation, invited to engage in industry events and debates internationally.
Accurate and credible data, robust analysis and our global, long-term, climate-first lens on sector decarbonisation, are key strengths that underpin our campaigns and dialogue. We complement the work of other civil society change-makers bringing a vigilant voice and corporate scrutiny. We currently focus on OECD countries, and specifically across Europe and Japan, with team members in Europe/Africa and Asia-Pacific timezones.
Role and Responsibilities
The Industry Decarbonisation Lead is a new role, which will work in close collaboration with colleagues across the organisation and is fundamental to the long-term strategy of SteelWatch to transform the iron and steel industry. The core purpose of the role is to cultivate our collective ability to harness credible evidence for our campaigns, and to engage effectively with industry with an ambitious well-informed vision for decarbonisation.
For the initial year(s), there are three main areas of responsibility.
- The Lead will be responsible for navigating and shaping SteelWatch’s positions and point of view on relevant issues regarding steel decarbonisation with a goal of driving long term transition to near-zero emissions steelmaking.
- The Lead will be responsible for managing and shaping our range of work on data, evidence, insights and analysis -with the team members involved - to ensure the quality and relevance of our evidence base and our industry intelligence.
- The Lead will be one of the key spokespeople for the organisation, particularly in industry dialogue and events. The role will report to the Executive Director and is likely to line-manage 1-3 people.
Success for this role will depend on close collaboration with others in SteelWatch including the:
- Steel Analyst, and other team members and consultants working on data and analysis;
- Campaigns Teams, ensuring campaigns are well evidenced, informed and targeted on the critical issues.
- Communications Team, ensuring everything that we externally communicate is consistent and credible, as accuracy is key in our role to speak truth to power.
- Executive Director, sharing the work of representation of SteelWatch externally and updating our arguments as the steel industry evolves.
Responsibilities
1. Shape, evolve and articulate SteelWatch’s positions and point of view on steel decarbonisation:
SteelWatch already has a strong point of view (POV) on many of the core elements of the iron and steel transition. However, the POV needs to be continually reviewed in the light of new developments, on occasion adapted, and extended to new emerging issues. Sharpening the POV is a collaborative process - the Industry Decarbonisation Lead will be responsible for steering and landing this process. The Lead will:
- Ensure the POV is constantly evolved,improved and adapted through collaboration, guiding the process and landing the outcome;
- Ensure the POV is clearly articulated and socialised internally and externally with allies.
2. Manage and shape our range of work on data, industry trends, and analysis.
SteelWatch currently has in-depth data and news tracking on two companies, the targets of our corporate campaigns. We track iron and steel industry news and analyse industry announcements. We are developing our capacity to react to steel news globally, track blast furnaces investments and other announcements, and rate and rank companies. The Industry Decarbonisation Lead will, in collaboration with the Steel Analyst:
- Shape and prioritise our work on gathering data, tracking industry news, and analysing industry strategies, to support and inform the priorities of the organisation, and ensure we make best use of the information in our campaigns.
- Build capacity within SteelWatch to do this consistently across our growing portfolio of work.
- Ensure the quality and relevance of our evidence base, and the processes we have for updating and using it.
- Continue to build our capacity to assess industry announcements and to use that analysis effectively for pressure.
- Scope, support, and lead projects that are data analysis projects, and hold responsibility for the data analysis component of other projects/campaigns. These are likely to include, corporate scorecard, blast furnace trackers, and data visualisation.
3. Ensure relevance, consistency and accuracy in our external communications.
Our external communications are based on credible evidence and SteelWatch’s POV combined with core narrative (responsibility of the Comms team), and campaign arguments and tactics (responsibility of the Campaigns Team). Working closely with the Steel Analyst who currently is the ‘source of truth’ and fact-checker, the Industry Decarbonisation Lead will:
- Ensure all external outputs are factually correct, credible and in line with our point of view.
- Develop processes and materials that increase technical understanding and consistency across team members and amongst those we communicate most closely with (eg allies, core media).
- Ensure robust processes are in place for fact-checking.
- Lead the development of our series of SteelWatch Explainers to present key concepts in accessible form among allies and industry.
- Support the Communications and Campaign teams to assess what reactive news to prioritise, and to respond quickly and accurately.
- Strengthen our ability to brief and correct journalists, dealing with their misunderstandings around iron and steel.
4. Act as spokesperson for SteelWatch in industry dialogue.
SteelWatch is vigilant and challenging to the steel industry. Our tone of voice varies from the creative campaigns, to the engaged dialogue. The Industry Decarbonisation Lead is expected to communicate externally and directly in dialogue, in writing and especially with the industry stakeholders at conferences, in private meetings or via social media. The lead is not the only voice of the organisation, but should be a focal point in building consistency. They will:
- Attend industry events and discussions, representing SW point of view and strengthening our industry connections;
- Speak at industry events, speak to the media where appropriate.
- Produce high quality written materials, support those written by colleagues, and support high quality data visualisation that communicates our messages.
- Engage actively on LinkedIn (and/or other social media) to respond to industry commentary and engage as SteelWatch.
5. Build relations with industry
SteelWatch is building relations with industry actors, both to share our views and ensure we are up to date on latest trends. The Lead will:
- Through industry events, networks and dialogue, strengthening our industry connections;
- Build relations with industry to acquire up to date information, and increase our ability to sense-check news and respond to trends.
- Keep abreast of industry conversations in order to identify the most relevant shifts, key topics or opportunities for SteelWatch to create pressure for change.
- Support others in SteelWatch to engage with industry, particularly in other regions and languages than your own.
6. Provide line management and task management to team members engaged in data and analysis.
SteelWatch currently has a mixture of long-term and short-term or part-time staff and consultants working on data, tracking and analysis. They are managed by different team members. The Industry Decarbonisation Lead will:
- Set objectives and define tasks for the data team, in line with overall SteelWatch strategy and plans, as they evolve. Provide line management for core data team members.
- Manage consultants focused on data or analysis, adapting TORs and finding new consultants as needed;
- Ensure synergy across the various team members and their work.
Essential skills and experience
- Ten or more years of experience in industry, energy, and/or decarbonisation, of which at least 2 years focused on the steel industry.
- In-depth knowledge of steel decarbonisation pathways, current trends, the challenges and opportunities.
- Proven ability to manage and interpret data, and to use data for powerful arguments.
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English, a talent for conveying complex ideas in understandable ways.
- Proven capacity to build collaboration with non-technical colleagues and enhance organisational capacity to use data and evidence.
Desired skills and experience
- Experience working across a range of topics, projects and tasks, juggling short-term deadlines and long-term priorities.
- We are particularly interested in candidates that bring deep expertise in the energy transition, and/or in financial analysis of companies' approach to decarbonisation, as these would complement existing skills.
- Knowledge of steel decarbonisation across different geographies, particularly including countries of Asia.
- Experience in climate and/or campaigning organisations (professional or voluntary)
Essential competencies and aptitude
- An eye for detail and ability to ensure 100% accuracy;
- A strategic mind, an instinct to see the big picture, long-term trend, and ability to spot opportunities for engagement or leverage;
- Willingness and ability to toggle between the detail and the strategic;
- Ability to work at pace, with the rhythm of a campaign organisation.
- Excellent people skills and proven track record as a team player, able to work well with colleagues across cultures and geographies;
- Flexibility to work early or late hours on some days each week to overlap with other time zones and to travel 3-6 times per year.
- An affinity with the messaging and campaign approach of SteelWatch. You do not have to have campaign experience or act as a campaigner, but you must agree with the level of transformation that we believe is required, and be excited to contribute your skills to an organisation that critiques the limited ambition of current industry players.
Language requirements
- Ability to work in English at a professional level is a requirement. Additional skills in European or Asian languages are useful, particularly Mandarin, Portuguese or German.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Country location
This role is open to candidates working in timezones UTC -1 to UTC +4 and in countries in which it is possible to have a 2-year fixed term employment contract with an Employer of Record. Within Europe, we welcome applications from candidates based in the Netherlands, UK and Germany, and in addition we welcome applications from candidates in Africa or the Middle East.
Location and remote working and travel
- Location: work location is remote from your home base. Staff members work remotely and online on a daily basis.
- Travel is an essential part of the role. If you are constrained in your ability or permissions to travel, please discuss this before investing in an application.
- Travel to an annual full team retreat is essential - this happens once a year and may be in Asia, Europe or other. Additional travel for events and face to face time is expected. This may be in Europe, Asia, or elsewhere and likely to be 2-5 times a year.
- While we offer flexibility for you to work away from home base, this will need to be coordinated with travel of other colleagues, may depend on timezone changes and/or be limited by legal contracting constraints.
Working conditions and benefits
- Working hours are flexible. Whichever time zone you are in, you will need to have flexibility to work early or late across different time zones straddling Asia/Pacific/ Europe&Africa /UK. You also have the opportunity to build in some flexibility around your own non-work commitments.
- This role is full time, 5 days/week. We may also consider 4 days a week (Monday to Thursday) but would require flexibility around this. If you prefer part time please indicate this at time of application.
- The initial contract period will be up to 24 months with a possibility to renew, depending on country regulations. The type of contract will depend on the location.
- You must have a valid work permit in the country where you plan to be employed. SteelWatch is not in a position to support a visa process.
- Remuneration is according to SteelWatch norms, level of experience and location of employment. For a technical expert in this Lead role, a Netherlands-based salary is in the range of €72,000 - 92,000. Salaries are adjusted by location.
- Our leave policy, unless varied by national regulation, provides 34 days in total combining public holidays and paid leave in all countries, plus birthday leave and inspiration time.
