Purpose of the Role

The Communications & Engagement Officer is a key role within Breaking Barriers’ Income and Engagement Directorate. It helps refugees find meaningful employment through communications and fundraising activities that maintain and grow relationships with partners, funders, supporters and relevant influential organisations and individuals.

The post holder reports to the Senior Communications Manager, and works closely with the Head of Public Engagement, Senior Digital Marketing Manager and Fundraising & Partnerships Officer. They also lead or participate in activities involving colleagues across Breaking Barriers’ teams and our refugee clients.

This role contributes to the implementation of our communications, engagement and fundraising strategies, and is closely involved in team planning – including input into operational plans and communications campaigns to steward and inspire key audiences.

The Communications & Engagement Officer is responsible for the planning and creation of day-to-day communications across our owned channels, with a particular focus on social media. They are also responsible for managing social media interactions and outreach, and for creating selected content for Breaking Barriers’ website.

The post holder helps the Senior Communications Manager to ensure that organisational content complies with brand guidelines. And they play a key role in data management – maintaining our multi-media asset bank and the storytelling data within our Salesforce CRM.

This role will suit a team player who is able to build strong relationships across Breaking Barriers to support content creation, ethical storytelling and impact. The post-holder should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, solution-focused and creative, whilst having a good eye for detail. And, of course, they should have a passion for stewarding, inspiring and mobilising audiences through high-quality, engaging communications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Communications planning and delivery (60%)

· Work with the Senior Communications Manager to manage the communications calendar.

· Collaborate with colleagues across Breaking Barriers, especially the Income & Engagement and Services teams, to source content that reaches, engages, stewards our key audiences – including partners, funders and individual supporters.

· Plan, create and schedule written and multi-media (graphics, videos, photos) content on social media platforms.

· Plan and create or coordinate longer-form content, including case studies, articles and blogs.

· Contribute to the delivery of integrated communications campaigns that support income generation, brand awareness and positioning amongst key audiences.

· Support the continual improvement of our communications by monitoring and evaluating their own work and implementing recommendations.

· Support the development of communications, engagement and fundraising strategies and input into team planning.

2. Community and supporter engagement (30%)

· Manage and engage with our organic social media communities.

· Pro-actively engage with relevant organisations and individuals via social media, in line with agreed strategies.

· Help develop and manage our growing community of storytellers with lived experience of life as a refugee.

3. Other responsibilities (10%)

· Update storytelling data in the Salesforce CRM, and undertake other administrative tasks.

· Take responsibility for maintaining Breaking Barriers’ asset bank of photographs, videos and graphics.

· Advise and support colleagues on compliance with brand guidelines, and create brand resources.

· Represent the Public Engagement team at selected events, including photographing or filming key moments and activities.

· Support other teams with ad-hoc requests for communications support.

· Take a proactive approach to professional development.

· Take on other marketing and communications tasks as required.

Person Specification
Essential

· Demonstrable knowledge of and/or interest in refugee, employment or migration sectors

· Experience in a communications or fundraising role (this doesn't have to be in the UK)

· A demonstrable understanding of key communications and fundraising principles, whether through direct experience or study, and including:

o Understanding audiences

o User journeys

o Developing key messaging

o Audience stewardship

o Working with brand guidelines

· Experience of creating high quality campaigns or content to inspire or drive action

· Experience creating written and multi-media (photography/graphics/video) content for social media, websites and/or emails

· Strong copywriting, editing and proofing skills, and the ability to tailor content for different audiences and channels

· Excellent relationship-building skills, and confidence working with colleagues at all levels of seniority

· Ability to work on own initiative, take responsibility for work, and learn from challenges and successes

· A proactive and creative approach to problem solving and idea generation

· Comfortable within a fast-paced team and able to prioritise multiple projects

· Ability to pay close attention to detail, to maintain communications quality and accuracy

· Experience with administrative, team communication and workload management applications, preferably including the Microsoft Office 365 suite.

Communications Officer - IPNEd 

We are looking for a Communications Officer to join the IPNEd Secretariat. This role will lead our internal and external communications, including copywriting, content creation, sharing and monitoring across all our communications channels.

Role Description

The IPNEd Secretariat’s role is to ensure that IPNEd members can exercise their unique functions as Members of Parliament as effectively as possible to accelerate educational progress. Timely and effective internal and external communication is central to this work.

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Communications Officer to lead the delivery of content to expand IPNEd’s reach, grow audiences, and drive meaningful engagement with MPs and our wider stakeholders. 

You will develop and implement strategies to strengthen IPNEd’s communications channels, collaborate with our partners to design and implement communication strategies, and support our global priorities.

The role also involves supporting internal communications with our parliamentary membership, including maintaining our membership database.

You will also monitor the performance of our communications efforts, identifying and testing ways to improve reach and engagement to ensure continuous improvement and impact.

We are looking for someone who can be proactive, efficient, and flexible in supporting all aspects of IPNEd's internal and external communications. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment in which you will play a central role in identifying and responding to external developments.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Content Creation

Develop written and visual content, including blog posts, newsletters, social media posts, press releases, infographics, and videos. 

Tell strategic stories that highlight the importance of education and profile the work and impact of members of parliament in accelerating educational progress.

Draft op-eds, speeches, and press releases to shape conversations and advance IPNEd’s mission.

Lead on the development and publication of regular and occasional email newsletters and general emails.

• Media Relations 

Monitor external media and use this to inform IPNEd's external communications.

Build and maintain relationships with external media and other organisations, identifying opportunities to collaborate and to pitch content.

• Digital Communications

Manage the organisation's website, including development, maintenance, and continuous improvement. 

Implement and oversee digital communications channels, including our presence on X, Bluesky, Facebook, and LinkedIn. 

Develop and produce performance data and reports for digital channels. 

Use performance data to test new approaches to communications.

• Strategic Planning & Collaboration

Contribute to and implement communications and external engagement strategies. 

Work closely with the Executive Director and Senior Policy & Advocacy Adviser to identify content and engagement opportunities. 

Represent IPNEd in meetings with Network members and external partner organisations, building strong working relationships.

• General

Maintaining systems necessary to support effective communications, including member, supporter and partner databases.

Supporting the Secretariat with research and writing.

The post-holder may be required to travel internationally.

The post-holder will also carry out other duties as necessary.

Essential skills and experience

Proven experience in a communications role within the not-for-profit, international development, or advocacy sectors.

Strong written communication skills, with proven experience drafting press releases, articles, comment pieces, blogs and social media posts.

Proven ability to craft engaging written, visual, and multimedia content for digital platforms.

Strong understanding of social media analytics to drive up engagement and increase our online visibility. 

Familiarity with digital content tools (e.g. Adobe Suite, Canva).

Skilled in managing websites, email marketing, and content management systems (e.g. Mailchimp, Squarespace).

​Experience of working with parliamentarians or in public affairs, campaigning or advocacy work in either a paid or voluntary environment, preferably in the context of international development or education.

​Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a wide range of people.

​Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

​Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.

​Willingness and flexibility to work across a range of tasks and activities.

Salary, benefits, and other key information

IPNEd is hosted by Results UK. The line manager for this role will be IPNEd’s Senior Policy & Advocacy Adviser.

1. Starting date 

The position is available immediately, and is offered as an initial 12-month contract with the intention of being extended if funding permits.

2. Salary 

This role is graded at Results Professional Level Two with a salary of £32,785 per annum.

3. Hours of work

This is a full time role 35 hours a week. These hours will be worked as agreed with the line manager, but some flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the job. There is no paid overtime, but Results UK offers a flexitime system for all staff. 

4. Holidays 

25 days per year plus bank holidays. Holidays increase by one day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days. Holidays are earned in arrears. 

5. Notice Period and Probationary Period

This role has a one-month notice period. The employee will have a probationary period of three months, during which time the notice period is one week.

6. Location

The post is a hybrid role with the expectation that the postholder can work from Results’ office at Clarence Centre for Enterprise and Innovation, 6 St George’s Circus, London, SE1 6FE when required.

Currently, most Results UK staff are combining working from home with time in the office. 

7. Travel

Occasional International travel will be required. The post holder must be able and willing to travel to Global North and Global South countries.

8. Additional Benefits

Staff joining Results are automatically enrolled in our company pension scheme unless they choose to opt out. A legally mandated minimum employee contribution applies, and all employee contributions to the pension are matched 1:1 by Results up to a maximum of 5% of gross salary.

Hope into Action is an inspiring story.  It starts with a couple, Ed and Rach Walker, who decide to use £30,000 of their own money to buy a house for people who were homeless in Peterborough in 2010.  And from this seed, an organisation has grown which 16 years later has 134 houses and has seen over £34 million invested in homes for people who were homeless.

Hope into Action is a story of how faith in God has been put into action and led to resources being shared, new relationships being formed and people’s lives being transformed.

Last year we housed over 500 people who had been homeless. Each of those individuals has a story to share of how Hope into Action has helped them. This is the story we want to share.

The Communications & Engagement Lead is responsible for implementing Hope into Action’s communications and engagement strategy. Working closely with the CEO, they will be responsible for telling the Hope into Action story and driving increased engagement with our vision for every church in the UK to be engaged in ending homelessness.

At least 50% of the role is harvesting stories from around our Network to create engaging content which expresses our vision and mission. We want someone who can be both responsive and strategic. Place2Be is looking for a Digital Content Officer to oversee the content across all our websites and work directly with teams to review, update and develop their content. You will support the Senior Digital Manager in maintaining our digital presence and work closely with the rest of the Communications and Marketing Team on key projects and events to ensure our websites are in line with our brand identity and tone of voice. About the role

As Senior Partnerships Communications Officer, you will be the communications lead for CARE’s growing portfolio of corporate, trust, foundation and philanthropic partnerships. Sitting within the Communications team and acting as a key business partner to the Partnerships & Philanthropy team, you will develop a deep understanding of partnership priorities and provide expert communications support that helps grow income, strengthen engagement and showcase impact.

The Role

The Marketing and Communications Officer will lead on promoting the work, services and impact of Citizens Advice Southampton. About Working Well Trust

Working Well Trust is a mental health and employment charity in London. All of our projects share the aim of improving the lives of people with mental health support needs, learning disabilities and/or complex issues through training and employment.

We are recruiting a Communications Lead to join Working Well Trust. This is a 35-hour per week role, Monday to Friday, based at our Bethnal Green office with travel to other offices and boroughs when required. Hepatitis is now the world’s deadliest communicable disease, claiming 1.34 million lives each year. Yet the world has everything it needs to eliminate it, including affordable testing and treatment, a vaccine for hepatitis B, and a cure for hepatitis C. Lack of awareness, stigma and discrimination in society, and a lack of action by decision makers, has stalled hepatitis healthcare worldwide. As a result, 287 million people are living with the virus, but only a small fraction know.

We are looking for someone to position WHA and the hepatitis cause within the global health landscape.

The successful candidate will deliver high impact multi-channel global campaigns to communicate our work to key stakeholders. In addition to National Lottery funding, The National Lottery Community Fund distributes funding through the Dormant Assets scheme. Dormant Assets funding in Northern Ireland supports community organisations to become more sustainable and resilient, strengthening areas such as governance, digital capability and organisational development.

Background on Dormant Assets NI

In addition to being a distributor of National Lottery funding, The National Lottery Community Fund distributes money released for social purpose as laid out in the Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Act 2008 and the Dormant Assets Act 2022.

This legislation enables funds from dormant bank accounts and other financial products to be channelled towards good causes in the United Kingdom through an independent body called the Reclaim Fund.

Funds are distributed to The National Lottery Community Fund, which in turn makes them available for good causes in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each devolved administration issues policy directions on how these funds are to be used.

The policy directions issued by the Department of Finance in September 2019 directed The National Lottery Community Fund to establish Dormant Assets NI to build capacity, resilience and sustainability in the third sector across Northern Ireland.

Responsibilities

​Working within the Communications Strategy team, you’ll lead communications activity for Dormant Assets NI. You will focus on raising awareness of the programme, engaging with organisations and sector networks, and sharing learning and impact through a range of channels.

The role combines proactive communications, relationship building, and close working with Policy and Engagement colleagues to support meaningful engagement with the voluntary and community sector. Responsibilities will include:

• Working with the Communications team, lead on communications activity for Dormant Assets NI, including regular funding announcements and programme milestones, ensuring messages reach the right audiences through appropriate channels
• Building and maintaining relationships with sector bodies, networks and specialist media, working closely with colleagues across the organisation, including Policy and Engagement, to amplify awareness of Dormant Assets funding.
• Working closely with the Dormant Assets NI team and the NI Customer Engagement team on the planning and delivery of grant-holder and learning events (in-person and virtual).
• Working with the Fund’s media team, you will lead on announcements, handle dormant-assets-related press requests, and contribute to reactive communications where required.
• Developing impact-focused content, including case studies, newsletters, and web content to demonstrate programme outcomes and learning.
• Planning, writing and scheduling social media content to proactively promote Dormant Assets funding, impact and learning.
• Working directly with grant holders to gather stories of impact, quotes and visual content, including site visits to supported organisations.
• Liaising with the Department of Finance, Reclaim Fund and partners to support programme visibility, stakeholder communications, project visits and photo opportunities.
• Contributing to reporting and accountability requirements, including quarterly updates for the Reclaim Fund, reporting to the Department of Finance, and using internal systems and CMS tools to maintain accurate records and project summaries.

About you

You are a confident and engaging communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.

You enjoy building relationships and working with a wide range of people and organisations.

You may already have experience working with, or communicating with, the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, or be keen to deepen your understanding of the sector and the context in which it operates in Northern Ireland.

You can plan and deliver communications activity using a variety of channels and adapt your approach to suit different audiences.

You are organised and proactive, with strong project management skills and the ability to manage a busy and varied workload.

You are collaborative, approachable and motivated by supporting the work of organisations that contribute to stronger communities.

Communications & Engagement Coordinator

We’re looking for someone with strong writing skills, confidence working across digital channels and an interest in student engagement, communications and storytelling.

You’ll support the delivery of clear, effective and engaging communications that help students better understand and connect with the Guild’s work.

Contributing to communications activity across a range of channels, you’ll helping showcase student voice, campaigns and organisational impact through accessible and audience-focused content. The role includes supporting internal communications, proactive PR activity and translating complex topics into clear and engaging messaging for student audiences.

Working with staff and student Officers, you’ll support the planning and delivery of campaigns, identify opportunities to improve engagement and contribute to a joined-up approach to communications across the organisation. You’ll also help protect and strengthen the Guild’s reputation through clear, responsible and consistent communications.
