FTWW is looking for a Communications Coordinator! The successful candidate will develop and grow the organisation’s online platform, including sharing information, resources and signposting within FTWW’s pan-Wales virtual peer support community and beyond.

The role is full-time (0.8 FTE considered for the right candidate), home-based within Wales, with occasional travel to events and meetings, so a driving licence and access to a car would be an advantage. We work flexibly, but core working hours are between 10am-4pm, and the successful candidate will be expected to work some evening and weekends, as required.

We are a small but mighty charity where no two days are the same. You may be involved in promoting a focus group to our members one day and meeting with a journalist the next. We currently have over 100 registered volunteers and over 2000 members of our online community, and you will work closely with our Volunteer & Community Coordinator to ensure that our members are at the heart of what we do.

The ability to speak Welsh, or a willingness to learn, is desirable.

Successful applicants will need to complete a basic DBS check and provide references before any offer of employment is made.

About the role

We are looking for a friendly, proactive Activities and Events Worker to join our team. This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of our organisation, combining front-of-house responsibilities with hands-on support for activities, events, and community engagement.

You will often be the first point of contact for service users, visitors, and partners, helping to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported. Alongside this, you’ll help deliver inclusive activities and events, support volunteers, and help us share our impact with the wider community.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a welcoming first point of contact, responding to enquiries in a helpful and timely way
• Provide information about Walthew House services and signpost people to appropriate support
• Support the planning and delivery of accessible activities and events
• Help ensure all sessions are inclusive for people with sensory loss
• Prepare rooms for activities and external hire, including refreshments where needed
• Work with volunteers, supporting recruitment, induction, and day-to-day engagement
• Contribute ideas for new activities that meet the needs of our community
• Support fundraising initiatives and promotional activities
• Assist with social media, website content, and printed communications
• Gather stories, feedback, and photos to demonstrate our impact
• Maintain accurate records and monitoring data
• Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection policies at all times
• Act as a designated First Aider (training provided if needed)

About you

We’re looking for someone who is approachable, organised, and passionate about inclusion.

You will bring:

• Experience in a customer-facing, community, or support role

The overall purpose of the role is to lead and coordinate meaningful participation and engagement opportunities for children, young people and adults to shape services, influence decision-making and ensure the voices of lived experience are central to organisational development. Main Responsibilities

• To co-ordinate and provide safe spaces for children, young people and adults to participate in user- led activities and projects.
• To be a key link between children, young people and adults within our participation service and staff, making sure their voices and experiences are heard.

• To be able to work flexibly, including regular evening and occasional weekend work in response to participants availability.

 Knowledge, training and experience

• Proven experience in youth participation, community engagement, co-production, or related areas, ideally within charity, education or health and social care sector.
• Understanding of participation frameworks, rights-based approached and trauma-informed practice.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of grief, loss, trauma, child development, and the psychological and social impact of bereavement on children, young people, families and adults.
• Experience in facilitating groups, workshops, and creative engagement activities both in-person and online.
• Ability to translate engagement insight into practical feedback and recommendations
• Adhere to legislation and statutory guidance related to Safeguarding Children and Young People, Safeguarding Adults, and the Mental Capacity Act.

Person Specification

Essential

• Minimum 3 years’ experience of working with children and young people or adults in health, social care, youth, community or education setting
• Experience of advocating for the interests of children, young people or vulnerable adults or individuals from ethnically diverse communities
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with experience of tailoring these to a wide range of audience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with children, families, and professionals while maintaining professional boundaries at all times
• Experience of facilitating participation groups both in person and online
• Knowledge of different facilitation approaches and methods
• Demonstratable experience of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults and an ability to practice in a way that promotes this
• Experience of building trusting relationships with children, young people, and adults creating safe space
• Passion for the power of Voice and Lived Experience
• Understanding of the challenges that participation work can present, and experience of how to overcome this
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external organisations
