Democracy Classroom is a partnership of over 100 civil society organisations from the youth, education and democracy sectors working together to support young people to engage in elections and democracy.

Democracy Classroom is a non-partisan, UK-wide initiative and a leading voice for the sector, reaching teachers and youth practitioners in 95% of the UK’s parliamentary constituencies. ABOUT THE ROLE
The Head of Communications and Networks will amplify The Politics Project’s voice, build strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration across the youth, education and democracy sectors. You will lead on communications, stakeholder engagement and the continued development of the Democracy Classroom Network.
You will oversee a team responsible for communications, partnerships and events, providing leadership and guidance to ensure clear messaging, impactful storytelling and strong, coordinated engagement across the sector. The post holder will combine strategic thinking with strong operational delivery, managing both the external profile of the organisation and the networks that underpin its reach and influence.
Key responsibilities include:
Communications
- Develop and lead The Politics Project’s communications strategy to raise visibility and strengthen reputation.
- Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all channels, including website, social media, newsletters and press.
- Lead media relations, drafting press releases, handling journalist enquiries and identifying media opportunities.
- Monitor and evaluate communications activity to measure reach, engagement and influence.
Partnerships and networks
- Work with the Partnerships Manager and Director to cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders across civil society, government, education and youth sectors.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the Democracy Classroom Network, including partner communications, newsletters and database management.
- Create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing between organisations, policymakers and institutions.
- Oversee the Democracy Classroom Platform and ensure it continues to grow as a trusted resource hub for teachers and practitioners.
- Act as The Politics Project’s representative and ambassador at external meetings, conferences and events.
Leadership and management
- Lead and mentor the communications and networks team, including line management of the Partnerships Manager, Communications Lead and Programme Coordinator.
- Manage relationships with freelance designers, illustrators and developers.
- Oversee evaluation and monitoring of communications and network activities, producing reports as required.
- Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively for communications, campaigns and events.
- Contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning and cross-programme collaboration.
- Carry out other duties as required in support of the organisation.
This is a fast-paced senior management role in a small but growing organisation. The post includes a six-month probation period and is fixed-term until March 2027, with the potential of extension depending on funding. Occasional travel within the UK and some evening or weekend work will be required.

You will have a track record of managing people and projects, developing communications strategies, and building collaborations across complex stakeholder landscapes. You will be confident in navigating the intersections of education, youth engagement and democracy, and able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on delivery.
Above all, you are a strong leader, communicator and collaborator who can inspire others, think strategically, and deliver tangible results in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Proven experience in leading communications, external engagement or partnership functions at a senior level.
- Experience managing and motivating teams, including staff and freelancers.
- Demonstrable success in developing and delivering communications strategies that raise profile and influence change.
- Strong understanding of press, media and digital channels, including social media campaigns and storytelling.
- Excellent writing, editing and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible content.
- Proven ability to build and maintain networks with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, policymakers and funders.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role supports our work to run our programme by ensuring that we recruit and onboard enough volunteers to become our wonderful mentors.
As our Volunteer Recruitment Officer, you will be the first point of contact for people volunteering to be mentors. You will ensure that our volunteers receive the highest level of customer service and have a great experience in all contacts with our charity.
Working closely with the Volunteer Operations Leader, you will implement our volunteer onboarding journey, leading on pipeline outputs to support volunteers from application to active mentoring.

Key responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment pipeline:
· Respond to all incoming enquiries and volunteer applications in a timely manner and in line with the charity's recruitment processes
· Responsible for clear communication to all prospective mentors in the pipeline, always giving a high level of customer service to volunteers and answering queries in a friendly professional manner
· Ensure every prospective mentor fully understands the benefits of volunteering with The Kids Network and has a first-class onboarding experience.
· Conduct volunteer interviews on a weekly basis to meet demand
· Call volunteers on a regular basis to check in on their progress and supporting them with their volunteer journey
· Maintain excellent data hygiene, ensuring at all times the charities CRM salesforce is being updated to ensure the pipeline is maintained
· Maintain the organisation vetting platform, following up with all volunteers who are stuck at various stages of the vetting checks process
· Carry out all the training admin pre and post the training day, working with the Volunteer Operations Leader to ensure this runs smoothly with high attendance
· Deliver 1 day weekend volunteer training alongside our Delivery Team when required.
Volunteer Recruitment Outreach:
· Maintain our digital recruitment streams
· Understand the communities we work in, working with the Volunteer Operations Leader to establishing links with community groups and local opportunities to attract different demographics
· Attend volunteer recruitment fairs and networking opportunities to promote volunteering with The Kids Network.
· Support with the admin and set up for those wanting to volunteer through a placement
· Follow the charity’s communication guidance and support communications work to attract and retain volunteers
· Feed ideas into and help to create content for emails being sent to volunteers in the pipeline and potential volunteers outside the organisation
· Attend mentee and mentor group activity sessions from time to time to better understand the purpose of our work

Kingston Carers' Network (KCN) is an independent charity providing information, advice, advocacy and support to unpaid carers of all ages who are caring for someone with an illness, disability or substance misuse problem.
We are looking for a dynamic and creative individual with a passion for communications and social change. We are currently supporting over 4000 carers, including over 800 young carers, who are caring for a relative or friend with a disability, illness, mental health problem or substance addiction. The successful candidate will have the ability to build and cultivate relationships with local organisations, as they will be managing our various social media channels. Recent experience of working in a communications role within the charity or public sector is essential.

The Philanthropy team is a close-knit team of seven who work with High Net-Worth individuals, Trusts and Foundations, and Individual donors, raising over 60% of Resurgo’s income (currently around £2.2million). They each play a key role in building and stewarding partnerships to secure income that will sustain the Spear Programme. They work individually as well as collaboratively, to ambitiously reach their target and have fun whilst doing it!

Person Specification
- A practising Christian who is passionate about personally representing the Christian values of Resurgo and committed to Resurgo’s mission to inspire and equip organisations to bring about ambitious and sustainable social change.
- Excellent relationship building and proposal writing skills. Experience in Trust fundraising or an equivalent field is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent people skills, able to relate well to colleagues of all seniority levels as well as external stakeholders.
- Well organised and efficient; calm under pressure; able to juggle competing deadlines and priorities, splitting time across multiple projects.
- Confident with numbers and interpreting project budgets. Some knowledge of Trust fundraising is desirable.
- A desire to grow and develop, able to receive and give feedback confidently as well as share their ideas with the team.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship Management
- Provide tailored, high-quality stewardship to a range of large and medium-sized Trusts & Foundations.
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities and build relationships with new Trusts and Foundations to further grow this income stream.
- Prioritise research to constantly develop future pipeline.
- Work with Head of Philanthropy and other senior stakeholders in engaging potential funders and managing strategic Trusts partners.
Write applications and reports
- Develop compelling funding applications for Trusts and occasionally statutory funders, articulating Resurgo's vision and strategy to persuasively engage new donors with a focus on raising five and six-figure grants.
- Stay ahead of sector trends, media, and political context to market Resurgo's interventions in a compelling way.
- Develop general communications on the work of Resurgo to inspire and update our Trust audience.
- Produce reports and updates on the impact of our work for funders in a timely manner.
Data Management and Monitoring
- Update our internal database (Salesforce) with all donor interactions, donations and other details in a timely and efficient manner and with strong attention to detail, and analyse data to give insights' and drive future activity.
- Manage the Trusts & Foundations pipeline and report on income and other KPIs, and ensure Trusts & Foundations team meets monthly targets and deadlines.
Line Management
- Actively manage and develop the Trusts & Foundations Executive to help them grow personally and in their role.

About the role
This role will focus on our Books Together project. We are looking for someone to deliver interactive book sharing workshops for parents and their children aged 2 to 5.
This role would suit someone with experience in working with young children and families in educational or community settings, strong communication and group facilitation skills and knowledge of early childhood development and the importance of early literacy. We are looking for someone warm, approachable, and sensitive to the diverse needs of families.
You will need to feel confident encouraging parent-child interaction through guided activities and discussions and creating a positive, supportive environment that empowers parents to engage in reading at home. You will also need to manage workshop logistics, including setup, materials, and attendance tracking as well as occasional team meetings to review the success of the sessions.

We are looking for a proactive and highly organised administrator, ideally with experience in a Charity or Professional body to join us as our Charities Assistant in a permanent position working 2 days a week, supporting a worthwhile charitable cause.
