The Role 

We are looking for 2 experienced Social Workers to join our London & South East Team supporting children and young people diagnosed with cancer.

We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality support tailored to the needs of the children and young people and their families. The work we do is rewarding but also complex and demanding. You will be part of a close-knit Young Lives vs Cancer social work team, working with an established NHS multi-disciplinary team and services in the community.

This role is part home, part site-based. Your contractual base will be both Home and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

You will have:

• A recognised Social Worker qualification and current registration with Social Work England/ Scottish Social Services Council/Social Care Wales/Northern Ireland Social Care Council
• Experience working with children, young people and their families/carers in a social care setting.
• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment, ideally in an NHS setting.
• Sound knowledge of child and young people development.
• An understanding of the impact of serious illness for children, young people and their families.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

In this key role you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Negotiating Officer to manage and support our stewards, safety and equality representative networks across West Midlands and part of Cheshire, advising them in providing individual and collective industrial relations support to members, working both in and outside of the NHS. You will also be expected to spend approximately 25% of your time, managing cases from across the UK, but predominantly from nearby regions.

The postholder will work in collaboration with other health trade unions across the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations Director reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

1. Working with the Trustees

• Overall vision and mission setting: Developing the use of the services and the building and increase the impact of Ivy Street for the benefit of the local community.
• Fundraising: Raising funds from a variety of sources to ensure the long term financial security of the charity, particularly focussing on rental income from the facility.

• Overseeing staff and the activity programme.

Job Purpose

We are looking for a Marine Scientist to play a substantive role to support all of Oceana’s UK campaigns. Research, science and data are at the heart of Oceana’s UK work, underpinning our policy positions, creating campaign moments and answering key questions with new research.

The successful candidate will write and project manage research to unlock key campaign questions relating to overfishing, habitat protection and energy in particular, as well as other potential campaign areas in future. They will also work to increase Oceana’s presence within the academic community, attending relevant conferences and meetings and seeking future collaborations on topics of interest.

The Scientist will report to and be supported by the Director of Policy and Research, and work closely with science colleagues across the Oceana global network and beyond. Eligible candidates should have some experience in conducting research, including analysing data, but we’re equally looking for passion, motivation and a drive to protect the ocean. • Support the delivery of Oceana’s campaigns, working with the Director of Policy and Research and relevant campaign teams.
• Research, draft and/or review content for Oceana’s scientific reports and other external communications, with particular attention to scientific accuracy.
• Gather evidence to support Oceana’s UK campaigns, including analysing primary and secondary data, conducting literature reviews and creating position papers.
• Commission and project manage research from external partners as needed, managing relationships through the duration of any projects.
• Work closely with the Oceana HQ Science and Strategy team and other scientist colleagues in the Oceana network to gather insights, inspiration and knowledge.
• Coordinate relevant stakeholders to ensure internal scientific reviews are completed in line with campaign timelines.
• Build strong external relationships within the academic community and represent Oceana to ensure we advance our goals with a wide range of stakeholders, from the general public to politicians.
• Actively participate in key policy and research conferences and events to defend and advance Oceana campaign goals.
• Maintain subject matter expertise and identify areas for new research by following the current literature, attending relevant meetings, and communicating with peers in the field.
• Represent Oceana externally in relevant networks, with partners and in the media as needed.

Candidate Requirements

Education and work experience

• Degree, ideally masters-level, in environmental, fisheries or marine science, or a related field.
• Familiarity with marine and climate issues, regulations and policies in the UK, as well as with key institutions and decision-making processes.
• Experience writing or commissioning primary or secondary research and associated materials summarising the work.
• A passion for UK seas and delivering a healthy ocean in general.

Skills and knowledge

• Familiarity with UK marine and fisheries policy and science.
• GIS and database proficiency, including basic knowledge of GIS mapping and statistical analysis.
• Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple workstreams and projects effectively to time and budget.
• Ability to represent Oceana in a professional and responsive manner both within and outside the academic community
• Excellent writing, editing, communication, organisational and research skills with the ability to confidently distil scientific messages to stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

As Mass Participation Events Officer (Challenge Events Officer), you will play a key role in engaging supporters to take part in exciting fundraising Challenge Events, from the London Marathon to cycle events and adrenaline fuelled challenges like a sky-dive or abseil, raising vital funds for disabled children and young people. You will be responsible for recruiting participants, providing excellent supporter care throughout their fundraising journey, and ensuring long-term engagement with Challengers, while managing multiple projects to create a smooth, rewarding experience for all. Alongside supporting third-party events, you will leverage your skills in marketing, social media, and event planning to maximise participation and meet ambitious fundraising targets.

Please note: this role is managing and supporting our Challenge Events program (an industry standard term for all walking/running/cycling/adrenaline challenges) and supporting individual supporters who would like to take part in these events. There will be some opportunity to organise our own Challenge Events however, the management of Challengers flagship fundraising events sits within a different role.

You will have a fluent writing style and be confident working with senior stakeholders to brief them before interviews.

Responsibilities 

·Handle incoming enquiries and provide accurate, timely and appropriate responses, briefing journalists in line with RCS England key messages and priorities.

·Participate in an out-of-hours rota for media enquiries. Time off in lieu is offered for significant out-of-office hours worked.

·Research, write and distribute press releases, features, letters and other editorial material.

·Draft articles, quotes and opinion pieces on behalf of RCS England spokespeople.

·Provide press office support to the Faculty of Dental Surgery and its Dean, as required.

·Brief the President, Council Members and senior managers on issues arising in the media.

·Act as the press lead for key projects such as RCS England guidance or campaigns. Devising and implementing communications plans, sharing project updates with the wider communications team, and maintaining a good understanding of surgical and wider health issues.

·Horizon scan for media opportunities and develop your own ideas for health coverage based on data, insights or RCS England priorities.

·Brief, support and prepare RCS England spokespeople for media interviews.

·Establish and maintain professional and trusted relationships with national and trade journalists.

·Represent the RCS England at internal and external meetings, and maintain professional relationships with press and communications leads at stakeholder organisations.

·Monitor daily media coverage relevant to surgery and the RCS England. This includes pulling together the team’s daily press cuts to be shared with Council members, Trustees, and key RCS England staff by 10am (subject to urgent media enquiries).

·Maintain and update the media sections of the RCS England website, working with the web team to develop rich digital content. Actively participate in developing our social media profile using Twitter, Facebook, and commissioning and editing relevant blogs.

·Produce evaluation reports of media coverage and communications activity.

·Undertake such duties appropriate to the grade, as required by your line manager.

About you 

• Degree educated or proven extensive experience that can demonstrate the essential criteria below.
• At least two years’ experience of working in a press office.
• Experience of writing and editing for a variety of media including print and the internet.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint packages.
• Demonstrable experience of placing stories in the media.

Redemption Roasters Barista Trainer

Role summary:

To deliver barista training courses in HMP High Down and HMP Downview. The goal of the training is to prepare residents for employment in hospitality on release.

Overview:
Redemption Roasters is looking to appoint a skilled and passionate barista to deliver training courses in HMP High Down and HMP Downview.  Both prisons are located in Sutton. The training will be delivered to small groups of prison residents who are looking to learn a new skill and are interested in a career in hospitality on release. The successful applicant will be offered comprehensive on-boarding training, with opportunities to shadow experienced trainers.

Duties:

• Deliver a tried and tested Redemption Roasters barista training course, including espresso preparation, milk steaming technique and pouring, alternative brewing methods, cleaning equipment, and basic grinder and machine maintenance. 
• Liaise with prison staff, including the Prison Employment Lead and Activities Manager, to ensure courses are well-attended.
• Act as a positive role model for course participants and encourage participants to grow outside of their comfort zones whilst respecting professional boundaries.
• Conduct basic assessments during the course, coordinate the completion of feedback forms, and track learner journeys, in line with the guidance given by the prisons.
• Provide one-to-one support to facilitate sustainable employment for interested participants on their release. 
• Deliver additional training to participants as is required; this would typically be in Redemption Roasters 13 coffee shops. 
• Other ad-hoc tasks to support the smooth running of the programme in HMP High Down, HMP Downview and wider success of the Impact team at Redemption Roasters. 

Schedule:

• On joining the team, the Barista Trainer will complete a minimum of three-weeks of on-boarding training. This will include an induction to HMP High Down and HMP Downview and shadowing experienced Redemption Roasters trainers in a prison environment.
• During a 12 month period, the Barista Trainer will deliver 7 three-week courses in HMP High Down and 6 one week courses in HMP Downview. 
• During training delivery weeks, the Barista Trainer will typically be based in prison Monday - Thursday (with the Trainer arriving at the prison for 8am), with Fridays in the Redemption Roasters HQ in Kings X, London. 
• During non-delivery weeks, the Barista Trainer will visit the prisons to support course recruitment (usually one day a week), as well as delivering one-to-one support and ‘top up’ training to participants working across the Redemption Roasters coffee shops.

Personal specification:

Essential

• 2+ years' experience as a barista and/or barista training
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Empathetic and kind, with a strong belief in the Redemption Roasters mission

• SCA Certifications
