Job description

Location: Western and Central Province Zambia Contract:  12-month fixed term contract (renewable)

The Programme Assistant LF will support the effective implementation of the Lymphatic Filariasis elimination project with a focus on mass drugs administration, transmission assessment surveys (TAS), Hydrocele surgery and Lymphoedema management. The programme assistant will assist in coordinating activities, liaising with stakeholders, data collection, and providing logistical and administrative support for project interventions.

Key accountabilities to include supporting with the full life cycle of the project from planning through to evaluation, financial asset management reporting and documentation of the project. Assisting with setting up static surgery sites, coordinating training for health workers and volunteers.  implementing transmission assessment surveys, liaising with district and community stakeholders, supporting procurement needs for the project such as MDAs and maintaining an inventory of project assets.

If you have previous experience within international development in a similar role this could be a great opportunity to develop your skills further within an international organisation.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Hold a recognised qualification/degree in relevant field (Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health)
  • Previous proven work experience, ideally within an INGO environment preferably in neglected tropical diseases or community-based health programmes
  • Knowledge of all aspects of project management within a community development programme
  • Knowledge of procurement and supply chain
  • Experience of engaging with partners such as Government line Ministries, organisations of persons with disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Good computer skills – use of Word and Excel
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of local language
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity for people with disabilities
  • Experience of working with persons with disabilities advantageous
  • Able to travel within the provinces for the length of the tenure
  • Current and ongoing right to work in Zambia
