We’re recruiting a fundraiser and project development manager to build on our creative, award-winning work addressing climate change and fuel poverty in practical, tangible ways. 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who shares our vision of a different energy future: one in which energy is generated renewably and used sustainably whilst leaving no one behind in the journey. We are looking for someone who understands the energy sector and the unique role that a community energy group can play in the energy transition. It is a role for someone who can imagine community solutions to energy sector issues and to translate these into fundable projects. 

Your role will be to work with our board of Directors and staff to come to an understanding of our mission and values and our strategic priorities and develop and resource projects that will enable us to meet those priorities filling gaps in provision. In a practical sense, you will work with stakeholders e.g. our staff, our members, local community groups, local authorities and clients to generate ideas for future projects. The direction of travel should be broadly determined by our recent strategic review.

You will work closely with our CEO and our Board of Directors to prioritise project ideas. You will develop partnerships, refine project ideas, identify sources of funding (Trusts and Grantmakers, Corporate Giving), draft bids and cost delivery on a full cost recovery basis, submit bids and if funding is awarded, mobilise the team to deliver the work. This role provides a big and exciting challenge for someone who knows the energy sector, understands the opportunity of community and grassroots solutions, who brings excellent written communication skills and is willing to learn how to fundraise.

Responsibilities:

Grant Fundraising Support:

• Work with the Selce community (the board, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders) to generate new project ideas that support our strategic mission 
• Research and identify potential grant-making trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies that will fund project proposals
• Prepare high-quality grant applications; this includes calculating budget requirements, formulating proposals, writing proposals
• Manage the grant administration process and maintain accurate records of funding opportunities and applications in the fundraising calendar.

Commissioned Work & Tendering Support:

• Assist in researching and identifying opportunities for commissioned work.
• Support the preparation of tender documents and proposals, including gathering necessary information, budgeting and formatting submissions.
• Provide administrative support for contract negotiation and agreement finalisation.

Community Share Capital

• Draft community share offer brochures and associated documentation
• Support the implementation of strategies to raise community share capital.
• Assist in planning and executing share offer campaigns, including preparing marketing materials and organising investor events.
• Help manage investor communications and data, ensuring compliance with cooperative principles and financial regulations.

Develop and Maintain Relationships

• Assist in building and nurturing relationships with funders, commissioners, and community investors through effective communication.
• Support the organisation’s representation at external events and networking opportunities.

Skills & Experience:

The ability to imagine and innovate and thereby build fundable project-based solutions working in partnership with stakeholders is more important that fundraising experience per se. This post would suit an Energy Policy graduate that has experience of either community energy or journalism (and therefore brings strong writing skills) or environmental projects

Essential:

• Knowledge of the Energy Sector: Understand the energy markets and the energy industry. Also bring a good understanding of community energy, fuel poverty, and energy efficiency
• Strong Writing Skills: Ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content for proposals, reports, and communications.
• Research & Analytical Skills: Capable of conducting thorough research 
• Excell Skills: Excellent Excel skills and the ability to calculate project budgets
• Organisational & Administrative Skills: Highly organised with excellent attention to detail, capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Communication and relationship management: Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• IT Proficiency: Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
• Passion for Mission: A genuine commitment to the values and mission of a charitable cooperative focused on energy transition and social impact.
Desirable:
• Fundraising Experience: Some demonstrable experience in fundraising activities, ideally within a charity or non-profit setting.
• Understanding of cooperative finance models or experience with community share offers.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead on the launch of a new RG proposition and ensure that the onboarding and onward journey is fit for purpose.

• Look for opportunities to thank our donors and communicate impact at key moments. 

• Work with key stakeholders to ensure we grow our Regular Giving file, through acquisition as well as retention.

• Manage a variety of individual giving fundraising campaigns, from agency briefing, through to launch, meeting six figure campaign targets. 

• Work with digital fundraising colleagues to create integrated, multichannel campaigns and an effective, donor-first giving journey. 

• Remain flexible and rapidly respond to emergency situations. 

• Work with the Data team to identify the best approach to data and segmentation for each project.

• Manage production processes, developing supplier briefs and managing approval stages and end of campaign reviews. 

• Manage donor research and mystery shopping as required, using insights to inform creative decisions. 

• Manage campaign fulfilment. Monitor responses to identify issues and opportunities. 

• From time-to-time support with Donor Care activities if required.

• Ensure cost effective fundraising, manage individual campaign budgets and identify opportunities to improve ROIs. 

• Stay up to date with issues affecting displaced & refugee communities, campaigns from international teams and reports from the field. Scope new fundraising themes. 

• Share creative and insights with UK colleagues, global markets and HQ, participating in training seminars, workshops and international skill shares where applicable.

Working across our Get Started and Explore programmes, you’ll lead personal development sessions that take our foundation programmes to new heights. The sessions will range from outdoor activities in green spaces to world of work experiences and everything in between!  You won’t be sitting behind a screen every day, there will be frequent travel required to Portsmouth and Southampton to support the delivery of these exciting programmes, as well as programme visits and short residential trips. 

However, it’s not all fun and games, keeping things on point means meticulously recording info and data about our programme participants, volunteers, and partners. It's all about making sure every step of their journey aligns perfectly with our funding contracts and has maximum impact for everyone involved.

Job Description

Brent Mencap has been passionate about a healthier and fairer Brent since 1979. We’ve developed and run successful housing, employment, health, advice, wellbeing and self-advocacy services. During austerity and Covid we diversified, successfully taking on NHS work with people with long-term health conditions. We provide social prescribing support and health and wellbeing coaching to patients for Brent GPs. In 2024-5 we helped over 18000 people. We’re a leading partner on the Brent Health Educators Programme. Recently we’ve focused on developing and retaining a much larger staff group, using our data better and improving our marketing.

Brent Mencap offers fantastic free creative and wellbeing activities for people with a learning disability, autism and long-term health conditions. These have flourished since Covid. People love yoga, poetry, singing, gardening, Breathe and Move, self-advocacy, campaigning, awareness raising, CREATE art activities for young people, external trips and parties. Small grants, donations and our reserves fund this while we get longer term funding. Our self-advocates want us to focus on paid employment, youth services and making Brent Council use accessible information properly. People with a learning disability, neurodiversity and their family carers are inclusively supported by social prescribers for advice and by health educators/coaches for health-related matters if needed.

Our current Executive Director, who has led Brent Mencap so well for 25 years wants to retire. The successful candidate will build on Brent Mencap’s history, current success and potential so our long-term passion for a healthier and fairer Brent can evolve and improve the lives of Brent People. · Work with the Board of Trustees and staff to develop our vision, implement strategic plans and  deliver agreed objectives

· Be able to ensure all aspects of our work are done safely, legally, in line with our articles/constitution  and able to assess risks and mitigate them

· Be responsible for staff development, management and all aspects of the administration of the organisation

· Be an ambassador for Brent Mencap, meeting and working with leaders with statutory and voluntary sector, Royal Mencap and local Mencaps

· Represent the lived experiences and voices of people with learning disabilities, neurodivergence, long term conditions and their families who inform our work and the work of others in Brent

· Work late occasionally, attend evening events, meetings and occasional weekends and undertake any other necessary tasks as required to ensure Brent Mencap functions safely.

In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Interview details

· A 4-part Interview with senior staff, self-advocates, operational managers and trustees, will take place at Brent Mencap on Friday 5th or 12th September 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be given a paper-based scenario to complete and send to us on the Thursday before the interview

· We anticipate the full interviews will take 2.5 hours with a 30-minute break at some point.

Purpose of the Role

To lead and manage support staff, working with service users in their homes. Be aware of and work to trauma informed principles and manage the service as a psychologically informed environment. Ensure staff to work to psychologically informed principles and help service users to develop aspirations for their future. This will include developing goals for employment training and education. To assist support staff to achieve tangible progress outcomes for their support clients. Outcomes that are in line with Causeway’s mission and with LB Haringey’s contractual requirements. Work with the CEO to review and develop policies, including for specialist training and support as necessary. Support the CEO to develop and implement an organisational client mental health strategy, for all support services. Ensure staff understand the purpose of the service and their role in delivering outcomes. Ensure continuous learning and development across the team by embedding learning from training and service reviews. Work closely with Causeway’s internal Housing Team to ensure residents are complying with the terms of their tenancy or licence agreements. Lead on client involvement within the service. To represent CIHA at external events and meetings when necessary.

You will work a combination of office, client-home, community, and home-based working. Causeway is a 4-day week employer, so you will work 32 hours over 4 days a week. Causeway is a London living wage employer. You will receive a 6% pension contribution, rising to 12% after two years service. This role offers the opportunity to support a small but dynamic team working on issues including gender-based violence, rural health and education, and climate justice. As the Foundation continues to grow and refine its strategy, your support will be instrumental in ensuring smooth operations and effective governance.

You’ll work closely with the CEO and wider team to provide executive and administrative support across the organisation.

• Overseeing financial processes, including payments, expenses, and liaising with accountants

• Coordinating international travel and logistics for board meetings and field visits
