You will bring experience in HR and people management, including policy development and employee relations, as well as oversight of systems, IT, and digital infrastructure. Professional qualification in finance, HR, or relevant management discipline would be advantageous. 

Crucially, you will combine strategic insight with a pragmatic, hands-on approach, and will be comfortable operating across a broad remit within a small, agile organisation, and motivated by the opportunity to help shape and strengthen how it operates.

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham is one of England’s most important Christian pilgrimage destinations, welcoming thousands of pilgrims and visitors each year from the UK and overseas. Thank you for your interest in the post of Chief Operating Officer of Worcester Cathedral. In this important role the new COO will work with the Dean and colleagues of the Cathedral Chapter to support the ministry and mission of the Cathedral and deliver the next phase of our strategic vision.

The COO plays a central role in delivering the Chapter’s strategy and plans, maximising resources and commercial activities and managing the day-to-day operation of the Cathedral, while nurturing its unique character and vision. The role of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is one of two statutory chief officer roles under the Cathedral Measure 2021, along with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Whether their background is in the public, non-for-profit, or private sector, they will be a proven leader with acute political sensitivity and judgement, and outstanding communication and commercial skills. Overall executive leadership at the Cathedral is exercised by the Senior Executive Team (SET). The SET comprises the Dean (as equivalent to CEO), the Residentiary Canons, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Senior Executive Team meets fortnightly, and the COO is expected to take an active part in those meetings and the wider executive function. The Senior Management Group (SMG) is chaired by the COO and comprises the residentiary canons, the COO and all heads of departments, and meets fortnightly.

This is a challenging role with some complex and demanding tasks at an exciting time of change for Worcester. It offers an outstanding opportunity to bring new thinking to the life of the Cathedral in a context where colleagues will offer both strong support and significant stimulus.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Governance

• To facilitate good governance processes, and to ensure that all policies and procedures are compliant; to work with the Dean to shape the agenda and implement the decision of the Chapter.

Leadership and management of the staff 

• To provide leadership and managements of the staff team.

Finance

• To work with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure there is a strategic plan in place for finance; to work closely with the Finance Committee and finance and fundraising staff to ensure regular and relevant reports are produced, cash flow is monitored, and an annual Chapter budget is drawn up.

Fabric

• To have oversight of the fabric of the Cathedral and precinct, in conjunction with the Surveyor of the Fabric (cathedral architect) and the architect for the close properties; and to prepare budgets and robust management plans for major projects as well as for the routine maintenance of the Cathedral and close properties. 

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, experience, skills and attributes:

Knowledge and experience

• A practicing Christian (this is an Occupational Requirement of the post) who is sympathetic to and supportive of the Cathedral as part of the Church of England, and willing to participate from time to time in public worship and other cathedral events.

About the role

The Director of Finance will be an integral part of the Senior Management Team, with responsibility for the strategic and day to day management of Cathedral Finances. They will support the ongoing development and implementation of its multi year financial plan to underpin the Cathedral’s Strategic Plan.

Main purpose of role

To oversee the charity’s financial management, ensuring accurate reporting, effective budgeting and robust controls. The Senior Finance Manager provides insight to support strategic decision-making, maintains compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and manages day-to-day finance operations to safeguard the organisation’s financial health.

In addition, as part of a small team, the Senior Finance Manager provides light-touch HR support to assist with processes – such as appraisals, payroll and staff records — helping to ensure smooth operations in the absence of a dedicated HR function.

Key tasks – finance

• Ensure accurate recording of information of various funding (industry, donations, memberships etc), spending, banking

About the Role 

As Finance Manager you will take responsibility for the day to day running of a small Finance Team and this includes management of team members and oversight of regular management reporting and financial accounting. You will take the lead on the annual external audit process, and work on the annual budget preparation and budget revisions/forecasts. Main Duties and Responsibilities

· Develop and implement strategies to attract new audiences and deepen engagement with existing ones through various channels like social media, email, and events.

Job Purpose:

 This role will lead the development and delivery of Allergy UK’s youth engagement initiative. We are beginning several exciting new projects focused on engaging young people who live with allergy and providing opportunities for them to have a voice and support them in raising awareness of the issues that affect their life. We are seeking young people’s participation and co-production in all activities we develop to support their needs. The role of Youth Engagement Officer will be to engage with young people across the UK, to ensure that they have the opportunities and support to shape and influence Allergy UK’s programmes and activities for young people living with allergy.

The Youth & Community Engagement Officer will engage with children and young people across the UK to ensure they are meaningfully involved and supported to influence Allergy UK’s services, campaigns and resources. This includes creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people and parents and carers feel listened to and empowered to share their experiences.

The successful individual will develop youth opportunities that build confidence, skills and life chances, while supporting children and young people living with allergy to overcome the social, emotional and practical barriers they may face. A key part of the role will be working collaboratively with parents and carers to ensure their voice inform decision making and design.

As a Youth & Community Engagement Officer, you will have experience of working positively with children, young people and families, and have a proactive, organised and confident approach.

Strong organisation skills and initiative are essential as you will be the lead Allergy UK’s youth provision.

You will coordinate a range of activities on-line and in-person engagement sessions, blogs, podcasts, learning opportunities and digital activities all rooted in co-production principles. You will work as part of a wider team to engage children, young people and parents and carers, to amplify unheard voices and stories, and help drive positive change for families living with allergy.

The post is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund until September 2028. As a grant- funded role, the postholder will be responsible for the effective delivery, monitoring and evaluation of agreed grant outcome and KPI’s, ensuring full compliance with funder requirements and reporting deadlines.

· Design, develop and deliver youth-led and family-centred services across three core areas:

o Continue to design and deliver youth-led services with the existing 18–25 youth group for people living with allergies

o Recruit, launch and establish a support and engagement group for parents and carers of children and young people living with allergies

· Plan, project manage and deliver engaging co-production projects, building positive, trusted relationships with children, young people and parents and carers, and promoting meaningful participation.

This exciting role will lead on all aspects of the finance function, including managing managing the Finance & Systems Officer, overseeing the production of year-end accounts in collaboration with internal stakeholders and auditors, and preparing monthly management accounts for reports to the Senior managers and trustees. Responsibilities also include stewardship of the Foundation’s liquid assets, leading the budgeting and forecasting processes, verifying monthly payroll prepared by HR, and ensuring the efficient operation of the purchase ledger function.

What does the role involve?

• Coordinate across the Foundation and help prepare the annual statutory accounts and all schedules for audit and be the lead liaison with the auditors.
• Prepare monthly financial reports and budgets for review by senior management, providing analysis and other measures of performance.

The role exists to achieve 29.4% annual occupancy, equivalent to 10,353 guest nights, primarily through profitable, multi-day group bookings across defined market segments.

1. Revenue Generation and Lead Conversion

• Full House Equivalent (FHE) tracking:
  Manage the Breakeven Basket and deliver 103 full-site days per year

  Design and implement return-stay incentives to reduce reliance on third-party platforms
