About the role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working as part of the Operations team, this is a critical role at the centre of the Bureau’s financial set-up. You will lead the day-to-day financial management of the organisation’s income and expenditure across multiple projects.

The Bureau is entering an exciting period of development, with a growing focus on building our direct audience and diversifying revenue streams. The Finance Manager will play a key role in strengthening the organisation’s long-term sustainability and resilience, while helping to deliver its strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage all bookkeeping functions, payroll, accounts payable, and receivable

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts

• Oversee cashflow management and banking controls

• Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and Editors to develop annual budgets that support organisational growth and project delivery

• Work with the COO to analyse financial performance and identify current and future funding needs

• Work with the fundraising team to develop budgets and financial information for grant applications

• Prepare financial reports for senior management, funders, and the Board of Directors

• Coordinate the annual audit process and preparation of statutory accounts

• Provide financial analysis and insights to support informed decision-making

• Liaise with external partners, including auditors, payroll providers, banks, and HMRC

• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, donor restrictions, and internal policies

• Maintain and improve finance systems, processes, and controls

• Support colleagues across the organisation with finance-related queries and knowledge sharing

• Attend and contribute to finance committee meetings and wider team meetings

Skills and experience

Essential

• Professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent demonstrable experience

• Strong financial management and analytical skills

• Confident communicator, both verbally and in writing

• Experience in producing management accounts and supporting VAT returns

• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting

• Experience in improving financial processes, systems, or ways of working

• Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Experience working in a non-profit, charity, or similar mission-driven organisation

Desirable

• Experience using NetSuite, Oracle, or similar accounting systems

• Understanding of commercial income streams (e.g. reader revenue, membership, sponsorship, B2B)

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN:

• Be the main point of contact for all finance and operational queries

• Manage the organisation’s core financial operations, including monthly Management Accounts, project finances, VAT returns and financial reporting, while working closely with external bookkeepers to ensure effective financial management and compliance, while working closely with the COO on financial oversight and planning

• Coordinate and manage the annual budgeting, Mid Year Forecasting and audit processes, preparing financial information, liaising with budget holders and external accountants, and ensuring timelines, reporting requirements and supporting documentation are delivered accurately and on time, while working closely with the COO on final review and strategic adjustments

• Support the Head of People and Development with the delivery and implementation of the internal People Strategy (specifically focusing on refining recruitment, onboarding and offboarding processes, as well as providing support with grant reporting and budgeting requirements for funders)

• Manage day-to-day operations across the organisation, including onboarding new staff, supporting HR processes, coordinating office management and equipment setup, liaising with IT support providers, arranging organisation-wide cyber security training, and ensuring the smooth running of operational processes while identifying areas for improvement

• Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer and the Head of Development and People to align financial and development goals

• Identify ways to enhance operational processes to support the growth of the organisation.

• Support the Engine Room team to establish effective organisational systems, routines and operational processes that support collaborative, person-centred and efficient ways of working across the organisation.

• Work closely with the Senior Team to provide financial insights, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to governance processes, including coordinating board paper inputs and monitoring organisational KPIs

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND BEHAVIOURS:

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Act as the Whistleblowing Officer and assist in the working of the Whistleblowing Policy;
• Maintain the declarations of interest and gift registry records;
• Assist the COO in keeping a log of complaints under the Complaints Policy 
• Lead the co-ordination, preparation, planning and follow-up for meetings and other committee work associated with the governance of the Cathedral including Chapter, Finance Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, and Nominations Committee;
• Arrange and manage the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and parish clerking duties;
• Assist the COO with returns, reports and filings for statutory bodies, the Cathedral's insurers, Association of English Cathedrals etc; 
• Assist the Dean and COO in their governance responsibilities under the Care of Cathedrals Measure 2021;
• Support the COO in the coordination of risk management and Health and Safety Compliance across the organisation; 
• Support data protection compliance across the organisation, working with the Cathedral’s GDPR consultants
• Secretariat support for the Health, Safety and Security Committee meetings
• Develop, monitor and review Cathedral policies and systems to ensure compliance and best practice
• Work with the Cathedral HR team to devise and monitor a regular training schedule to ensure best practice and compliance
• The post-holder will assist the Cathedral Safeguarding Officer where needed with administration, DBS checks and training requirements and records.

Job Purpose

Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, the post holder will be responsible for leading on quality assurance and compliance across the organisation, including managing and ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 standard and GDPR, allowing Ygam to achieve its strategic objectives effectively and efficiently. The role will also have responsibility for certification of programmes with CPD.

Key Tasks

• Lead and encourage a culture of continual improvement across the organisation.

• Plan, organise and complete internal audits to ensure compliance with ISO standard and identify business risks.

• Review and evaluate operational procedures to ensure continuous improvement and maintain ISO9001 certification.

• Manage the internal non-conformance process (DV8) identifying root cause, trends and corrective actions.

• Liaise with external auditors to facilitate the annual ISO audit.

• Take responsibility for Ygam’s GDPR compliance supported by the In-house Lawyer and Head of Information Systems.

• Manage policies, due diligence and consent processes, ensuring that these are adhered to across the organisation.

• Oversee Ygam’s Quality Management System (Help Hub) and ensure this is kept up to date across the organisation.

• Lead the submission for CPD certification of programmes as required.

• Prepare reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and attend meetings where required, including internal audit updates, results of quality audits, etc.

• Support the management of operational risk, including maintaining Ygam’s RAID Register and ensuring that this is kept up to date across the organisation.

• Line manage Ygam’s In-House Lawyer who works for the organisation 1 day per week, primarily on contracts and GDPR compliance.

· Any other ad-hoc tasks for QA and compliance, and back-office support as required

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

· Significant experience of quality management, compliance and process improvement, including ISO 9001 certification.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret and implement ISO standards.

· Experience of providing an internal audit service.

· Experience of producing reports suitable for SLT and board committee level consideration.

· Excellent knowledge of GDPR compliance, including consents processes.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work with and influence colleagues at all levels across the organisation.

· Strong IT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

· Experience of driving projects to achieve agreed outcomes.

· Strong administration, time management and prioritising skills.

· Attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.

· Demonstrable diplomacy and ability to work in confidence

· Self-starter with ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

· Willingness to travel regionally and nationally occasionally as required.

· Right to live and work in the UK.

Desirable criteria:

· Experience of working in the not for profit/charitable sector.

· Experience of working in a remote or hybrid environment with a geographically dispersed workforce.

Dunfield: Resident Site Caretaker

Dunfield House is looking for a Resident Caretaker to live on-site and become the guardian of our beautiful 15-acre estate. 

As part of our "2026 Strategy," we are moving from simply "maintaining" to "thriving." You will be the person who ensures the lights are on, the pool is sparkling, and the grounds are safe for the hundreds of children and community groups who call Dunfield their "home from home" each year. 

What You’ll Be Doing: 

• Guardian of the Estate: Living on-site in the provided cottage, you’ll be our "eyes and ears," ensuring the site is secure and providing emergency support when groups are staying. 

• Keeping the Gears Turning: Handling day-to-day repairs, from fixing a leaky tap to painting a bedroom or clearing a gutter. 

• The Great Outdoors: Mowing the lawns, managing the woodland paths, and keeping the 15 acres looking like the sanctuary our guests expect. 

• Pool & Plant: Taking charge of our private indoor pool (full training provided) to ensure it is always clean and safe for our guests. 

• Duty Management: Joining our rotating "Manager on Duty" team, greeting guests and ensuring they have everything they need for a perfect stay. 

• Emergency On-Call: When resident on-site and not on a scheduled shift, act as the designated emergency point of contact for guests. 

• Boundary Management: Work with the Operations Director to implement and display clear "Emergency Guidelines" for guests, ensuring "on-call" status is reserved strictly for life-safety or significant building-integrity issues (e.g., fire, flood, total power failure). 

• Response Protocol: Provide immediate assessment of the emergency and, where necessary, coordinate with external emergency services or the Operations Director.

The HR and Operations Manager is responsible for managing the employee lifecycle and core operational functions at CASPA.

The role ensures that HR and operational processes are efficient, compliant, and accessible.It also has a strategic focus on user experience in a neurodiverse organisation.
