The Meridian One Community Garden serves as a space where we focus on cultivating fruit, salad, and vegetable produce. We involve the local community by hosting weekly volunteer gardening sessions, welcoming school visits, and organising various community events.

TCV is seeking a Senior Project Officer with expertise in community engagement, event coordination, and managing community facilities. The garden, which was established one year ago, encompasses facilities such as an office, a community meeting/education room, toilets, and a spacious polytunnel.

The Senior Project Officer will oversee a range of tasks including planning and executing community events, maintaining site Health & Safety, leading volunteers in practical projects like building wooden planters, tending to garden plants, and ensuring timely completion of administrative duties such as procurement, risk assessments, social media updates, and task reporting. They will also lead activities for the under 5’s Nature Explorers group, school visits, themed evening events, and family weekends. Additionally, they'll organise corporate volunteering sessions and cover holiday shifts for the Green Gym gardening program. Previous events have included 'Pampering and Enrichment,' 'Repurpose, Recycle, Reinvent' workshops, and a Black Women in Conservation and Horticulture photo exhibition, as well as our weekend family events featuring free food, music, and arts and crafts activities.

This role involves being friendly and open to various people who visit, from the toddlers attending the Nature Explorers club, to our volunteer gardeners, to senior staff from the local authority. There are two other people working part-time at the garden, and TCV provides thorough training and support from a helpful local team.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone with experience of gardening and/or nature conservation. However, what’s equally important is that the Senior Project Officer has initiative, is welcoming, and comfortable working with a wide range people. We’d therefore welcome applications from candidates who can display those personable qualities, with perhaps experience of working in a community centre setting.

In Spring 2024, TCV will be taking on the management of an additional nearby meanwhile space. The new Senior Project Officer will join us at an exciting time when we begin to turn that space into a new community tree nursery. Working with local people to gather seeds from significant trees in the surrounding area, we aim to grow saplings which will go on to be distributed for planting around London.

Working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Given the nature of the role the Senior Project Officer will need to work from the garden during these times. Occasionally, to avoid lone working in the absence of another colleague, there will be the opportunity to work from home. Weekend family events take place on Saturdays, four times a year and there are approximately six evening events which take place between April to September. This post holder would be expected to attend those evening and weekend events.

Working under the direction of Academic Representation Manager, you will coordinate and develop a Course Rep scheme that accurately and legitimately represents Manchester Met students and creates positive change and supervise and support the Faculty Organisers throughout the year in supporting course reps and the work of other union departments within faculties.

• You will lead on the course rep recruitment plan and training, including the delivery of the lead volunteer program, maintaining a partnership approach to delivering the Course Rep scheme, through positive relationships with university stakeholders and Union colleagues.
• You will organise and deliver events and workshops for Course Reps around particularly issues identified as relevant to their academic community and support the Academic Representation Manager with any projects, consultations or research into the academic experience at MMU.

As the Major Gifts Fundraiser, you will play a pivotal role in developing and sustaining fundraising relationships, working closely with the Director of Development, Chief Executive and Senior Management Team. The role

As a member of our corporate services directorate, you will be proactive in maintaining quality and high availability IT systems by providing first and second-line IT support to over 350 staff across 4 offices and around 200 associates in a smaller capacity. This includes user management, telephone system administration, backups, software compliance, hardware refreshes, documentation, and user training. As our Director of Fundraising you’ll lead the development and delivery of a bold and effective fundraising strategy in line with our organisational ambitions. 

You’ll be an impressive fundraising leader with a track record of securing high value gifts from trusts & foundations, major donors and corporate partners.

A skilled project manager and technical advisor, with a proven ability to work with external stakeholders, you will work in support of the Technical Manager to manage the technical aspects of Leaping Bunny and other organisational programmes. You will have excellent administrative skills gained in a customer-facing environment, including the ability to deal with multiple complex enquiries in a calm manner.

From the provision of technical advice and guidance to existing members and prospective new joiners, to supporting complex third-party supply chains; your meticulous approach, eye for detail, and flexibility will help advance the organisation’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

You will act as a main point of contact for all Leaping Bunny technical enquiries and other potential new programmes, and in doing so, you will enjoy dealing with a wide and diverse range of people mainly via phone/email/video calls.

Your energy, commitment and experience will help propel the department and organisation successfully forward; and in doing so, you will help end testing on animals worldwide.

About Bookmark

Bookmark began life just over five years ago with a clear mission; they want every child to read. Currently more than one in four children are leaving primary school unable to read well. These children are more likely to drop out of school, experience unemployment, poverty, and poor mental health. Poor literacy disproportionately impacts children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and Bookmark wants to make sure that all children have access to the reading resources and support they need so they can succeed in school and beyond.

Bookmark are a wonderful organisation with big impact. They partner with schools in disadvantaged communities to provide one-to-one support to their pupils, along with books, resources and grants that help teachers to develop vibrant whole school reading cultures. Last year alone they worked in over 150 schools, directly supported 2,000 children with their volunteer-led reading programme, and supplied over 50,000 brand new books to children so they can develop the reading skills and confidence they need for a fair chance in life.

About the role

As the Senior Philanthropy Lead at Bookmark, you will work with the Head of Fundraising to manage and grow our philanthropy portfolio within the wider strategy. You will lead a team of three to deliver on the fundraising strategy, line managing both the Philanthropy Manager and Senior Fundraising Executive. Your role will involve proactively researching and identifying new potential Bookmark major donors and working with trustees, staff, and the Partnerships Board to build a robust pipeline of supporters and secure introductions.

You will own and build a portfolio of new major donors through the full donor cycle who give £25,000 or more, ensuring a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey. You will create compelling, relevant, and tailored funding proposals, reports, and collateral to inspire and inform donors, reflecting Bookmark's strong brand. You will lead on the Philanthropy events strategy and program, providing support to the Philanthropy Manager and wider team in delivering income-generating, cultivation, and stewardship events.

In addition, you will work closely with the Corporate Partnerships team to ensure opportunities to maximize income for the fundraising team. You will devise and deliver annual plans, together with associated budgets, in line with the charity's strategic objectives. You will use Salesforce to manage the accurate recording and forecasting of major donor income, enabling efficient reporting and KPI management.

About you

To be successful in this role, you must have a successful track record in high-value fundraising and acquisition, including a proven track record of securing five or six-figure gifts to meet or exceed targets. You must have experience line managing individuals, nurturing their development, and managing their performance to achieve results. Ideally, you will have experience developing and managing a calendar of successful charity events that meet fundraising targets and managing or working with a fundraising board or high-value committee. You should have the skills to influence, motivate and persuade people to donate and experience writing successful, inspiring, emotive, and technically accurate cases for support and proposals tailored to a major donor audience.

You should be experienced in growing and managing a pipeline, planning for your portfolio, and increasing income.

As second most senior leader in the charity, the Deputy Director will provide leadership to the First Give team and support the Board of Trustees and Director with strategy and governance. 

The Deputy Director will play an integral role in the development of the charity as we move into our second decade. They will spearhead our fundraising, communications and marketing to ensure the charity has the capacity to deliver against our strategic goals.

Key responsibilities 

Organisational Leadership and line management 

• Deputise for the Director when necessary 

• Provide leadership and positive role modelling to the First Give team 

• Support organisation-wide improvements and innovation, including strategic planning and organisational structure 

• Develop connections and networks that increase the profile and opportunities for the charity 

• Work with the Director and Head of Programmes to create opportunities for young people to influence and engage with our work and impact 

• Line management of our Administrator 

Fundraising 

• Work with the Director and consultants to own and implement a robust fundraising strategy to support the organisation as it executes its new strategic plan 

• Develop processes for managing fundraising applications and stewardship of existing funders and supporters 

• Write and submit high quality, inspiring and tailored funding applications and reports for trusts and foundations (expected to be in the region of £10,000-150,000) 

• Identify and develop potential new funding opportunities for First Give, including major donors and corporate funders 

• Manage relationships with a set number of key funders, ensuring that we proactively seek feedback, engagement and involvement in our work 

New School Partner Recruitment 

• Oversee and co-ordinate all new school partner recruitment sales and marketing activity 

• Work with our marketing agency to develop and implement marketing campaigns 

• Support the Programmes Team to recruit new partner schools in priority regions 

• Proactively seek opportunities for growth of the First Give partners network 

• Develop and design and production of marketing and sales resources to support all sales activity 

• You may also be required to deliver sales meetings with networks including Headteacher meetings and attend conferences to promote the work of the charity 

Communications 

• Lead the development and manage the delivery of our communications strategy, including all messaging to key stakeholders via a range of appropriate channels, including newsletters, social media and our website 

• Be responsible for the First Give website, ensuring it is up to date, relevant and meets the needs of the organisation 

• Brand champion, ensuring that all external communications and resources are aligned with our brand identity and tone of voice 

• Management of retainer with external design agency

Person Specification 

Essential 

• Passionate about young people and their potential to drive social change 

• Leadership experience, ideally in a charity of similar complexity and scale 

• Ability to triage between the strategic and operational with ease and confidence 

• Demonstrable success as a fundraiser, particularly bid-writing, reporting and funder stewardship 

• Experience of developing and implementing a communications strategy 

• Experience of creating a range of content for different audiences and channels including marketing materials, newsletters, blogs, social media content etc… 

• Experience developing and implementing successful sales and marketing strategies, preferably in the education sector 

• Experience of writing and managing budgets, delivering plans using resources available 

• Track record of stakeholder management at senior levels 

• Experience of working in or with teachers and schools 

• Excellent presentation skills, with an ability to deliver concise, engaging and persuasive presentations 

Desirable 

• Experience leading the development, implementation and evaluation of marketing activity and campaigns
