Background
Our 68-year-old charity is one of the most exciting and flexible employers in the charity sector. Having supported 13,000 Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and their 100,000 heroic volunteer fundraisers to raise more than £1 Billion during the past decade, last year we began to lay the foundations for significant growth in impact during the decade ahead, not just to extend the impact of PTAs, but to provide more broader support for parents in enabling their children to live happy, healthy, and productive lives.
During the summer, we launched a membership magazine (PTA Extra), and a popular programme of parent webinar covering such topics as: ‘Supporting your child’s mental health’, ‘Helping your child succeed in KS2 English’, ‘Neurodiversity in Children Matters’.In the autumn began building a fundraising team to support PTAs by fundraising at the national level. In December we launched the highly successful ‘National Parent Survey’ to explore the challenges and concerns parents face. This year we relaunch a national publication for parents new to school, called ‘Be School Ready’, and our new ‘PTA Launchpad’ programme.
At Parentkind we have developed a culture of high expectations for supporting PTAs and Parents alongside an equally high expectation that colleagues take care of their mental health and well-being.We are obviously a parent-friendly and flexible employer, where colleagues work from home by choice, and are given agency to perform their duties in balance with life.Colleagues work around important life-commitments such as taking their children to school, attending a medical appointment, or just taking a walk.Colleagues are trusted to do great things, both at home and whilst working.

If you are dynamic and inspiring Chief Officer then we’d love you to join us to help achieve our ambitious aims; it’s a fantastic opportunity to make a huge impact on children and young people’s mental health.

Whitley Fund for Nature
Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK-registered charity (1081455) offering funding (Awards), training and media profile to inspiring leaders of wildlife conservation projects across the Global South. We support pragmatic, sustainable, and long-lasting work rooted in science and community involvement. The charity funds projects directly and we remain in regular contact with Award winners (grantees). WFN also raises awareness of the serious problems facing wildlife, landscapes, climate, and people, through promoting the work of winners. We focus support on nationals (leaders who were either born in the country where they work or have gained nationality) and aim to help build the capacity of successful local NGOs and grassroots work. We fund mainly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America where income is often hardest to access and can have the biggest impact for people and biodiversity. Our funding is raised each year, mainly from family foundations and trusts, as well as from individuals, corporates, and international NGOs, with a current annual income of £2.6m/year. WFN is governed by a committed trustee board. Our team is dynamic, passionate about our mission and ambitious. The charity benefits from high profile support from Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, and Ambassadors Sir David Attenborough, Kate Humble, Tom Heap, and Alastair Fothergill. Following the charity’s 30th anniversary in 2023, and in line with our ambition to raise £3m/year by 2025, we are expanding our team to increase the amount of support we can provide to our growing network of conservationists around the world and tell their stories.
The opportunity
“Saving our planet is now a communications challenge. We know what to do, we just need the will” Sir David Attenborough. WFN is a fundraising and grant-giving nature conservation charity. Established in 1993, we have channelled £23 million to 220 conservation leaders in 80 countries across the Global South, benefitting wildlife, landscapes, and people. We are now seeking to expand the team in line with our activities by recruiting a Communications Assistant to maintain and grow the organisation’s online communications across digital and social media platforms and support the team with office administration and event organisation. The post-holder should be keen to make a difference by working in a small team across an impactful organisation. They should have demonstratable skills in online communications and audience engagement, knowledge of wildlife conservation issues, experience with event organisation and the ability to support a vibrant team to flourish. The Communications Assistant will report to The Head of Communications with matrix management to the Operations Manager, dividing their time by working on communications 3 days p/w and office administration and charity events 2 days p/w. If you have a flair for communications, want to help protect our planet and are seeking to gain first-hand experience working for a UK-based conservation charity, then this could be the perfect role for you.

About Us
The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. The role

Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.

Ideally you will have a driver's licence and use of a car, but this is not essential.
