About the role
Reporting in to the Global Head of Programme Policy and Practice, the Gender Justice Lead is designated as the single point of accountability for gender justice leadership across the organisation, including for policy and advocacy aligning with organisational values and goals.
The post-holder will directly lead on gender justice work as a standalone issue, while also overseeing the gender mainstreaming work led by the Senior Gender Adviser. The role is responsible for co-developing a thematic strategy, collaborating with the Strategy and Learning Manager in organisational effectiveness.
The role is ultimately accountable for the delivery of the thematic strategy on Gender (both mainstreamed and standalone work) and for reporting progress towards this at regular intervals to measure success and maximise impact, and provides strategic oversight of Christian Aid’s gender thematic global policy and advocacy work in global spaces to ensure the advocacy maximum impact.
The role collaborates with partners and faith groups, providing public policy analysis, positioning, research and writing, and is rooted in evidence and theological reflection to foster a mindset of connection. The post-holder will manage the Senior Gender Adviser.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Gender Justice Lead include:
- Co-develop, create and deliver a thematic strategy for the whole of the Gender Justice thematic priority, including policy and advocacy components, clear measures of progress and impact/success which are then reported against at regular intervals aligning with organisational values and goals.
- Manage the Senior Gender Adviser to clearly contribute to the delivery of the strategy, and to support and collaborate with programmes and partners to achieve organisational standards on gender mainstreaming, protection and inclusion.
- Lead as the organisational technical expert on gender justice programming, particularly as a standalone thematic focus, and collaborate with staff across the Impact and Income & Public Engagement departments so they are able to draw on gender justice expertise – ours and our partners’ – in order to design, fundraise for and facilitate the delivery of strong signature programme
work on gender justice, maximising impact and income. - Provides strategic oversight of the organisation’s policy and advocacy work on gender, supported by the Senior Gender Adviser, to maximise impact.
- Develops, shapes, steers and delivers Christian Aid’s thematic public policy analysis on gender, positioning, and research and writing, rooting this in programme experience and theological reflection, and promotes the exchange of ideas and knowledge, to maximise impact.
- Foster a culture of learning and improvement by identifying best practice among our partners and facilitating knowledge sharing across partners; by commissioning (or directly undertaking when appropriate) research and learning reviews to evidence good practice and course correct where needed.
- Build strong relationships with key policy and advocacy colleagues focusing on ensuring insight and learning from programme practice feeds into, and influences public policy development, and provides evidence for advocacy materials.
- Collaborate with the Strategy and Learning Manager and the Impact and Evidence Manager to ensure appropriate evidence is being gathered and consolidated to measure and communicate the impact of our work on gender justice and to adapt our signature programme approaches as necessary.
- Lead and build external networks so Christian Aid’s work on gender justice is presented and promoted nationally and internationally, including in global advocacy spaces, resulting in 1) an enhanced organisational profile within the sector to maximise our impact, 2) a portfolio of work that is innovative and in line with sector best-practice, 3) a pool of potential partners to engage and work with.
- Programme advisory and resource materials on gender justice are developed on the basis of organisational values, goals, strategies, adaptive programming approaches, and informed by ongoing learning of Christian Aid.

- Postgraduate or equivalent in International Development or relevant discipline.
- Detailed understanding gender concepts, theory and practice, and of current thinking/debates on gender and social norms, in an international context.

Who We Are
Our charity was established in 1992, to provide care and support to people in Sussex, living with and affected by HIV. Over the past three decades there have been huge advances in treatment and care for those affected by the virus. People taking effective anti-retroviral medication (ART’s) can live long lives, with HIV becoming undetectable and untransmittable.
Whilst people who are living with HIV can live longer, many develop other physical co-morbidities as they age and many experience social and self- stigma. Our service users are often from marginalised groups, who often experience inter-sectional discrimination and health inequalities. Many of our service users experience socio-economic disadvantage and have multiple and complex needs.
The Sussex Beacon offers a range of services to people who have been living with HIV for decades through to those who are newly diagnosed. Our services include:

The Role
This is an exciting time for The Sussex Beacon, as we are about to launch our new 2030 Strategic Plan and move to a new era of delivery, through the evolution of our end of life and palliative care for the LGBTQ+ community. The Sussex Beacon will be the first Hospice of its kind in the country tackling stigma and health inequalities for those who are most marginalised in our community.
This role will secure, manage and grow income from corporate partners, supporting The Sussex Beacon’s mission to provide specialist care and support for people living with HIV and its new LGBTQ+ Hospice provision. This role is responsible for building long-term, strategic relationships with businesses, creating tailored partnership opportunities, and contributing to the charity’s wider income generation strategy and its five-year fundraising plan. Corporate Partnership Fundraising at The Sussex Beacon
The Sussex Beacon has a proud history of working with corporate supporters who are passionate about making a difference. The Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser will lead on identifying new corporate prospects, developing compelling proposals, and managing a portfolio of existing partners. They will create and deliver partnership plans that may include sponsorship, employee fundraising, cause-related marketing, and volunteering. By aligning business objectives with The Sussex Beacon’s values and impact, the postholder will ensure meaningful and sustainable relationships that benefit both parties.
Team Beacon
Team Beacon is the charity’s fundraising event brand, bringing together supporters through challenge events, campaigns, and volunteering. The Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser will work closely with the fundraising team to integrate corporate teams into Team Beacon activities, encourage staff engagement, and develop sponsorship packages for major events such as The Brighton Half Marathon, which we own, and community challenges. Business Networking Events
The postholder will represent The Sussex Beacon at a variety of business networking events, including LGBTQ+ network events, across Sussex and beyond. The Fundraiser will be proactive in identifying and attending relevant events, from Chamber of Commerce meetings to local business expos, ensuring The Sussex Beacon maintains a visible and professional presence in the corporate community.

· Maintain accurate records of partner interactions and income through the charity’s CRM system.
· Prepare regular reports and updates for the Head of Income and senior leadership.
· Work with the communications team to highlight successful partnerships and case studies.

The School Housing Advice Support Project builds on the success of a pilot program and aims to provide tailored housing advice and support to families, particularly those living in temporary accommodation (TA). We are looking for an experienced, motivated and compassionate support worker to deliver housing advice and practical support to parents from four Primary Schools in Southwark. This role involves conducting housing surgeries, providing follow-up casework, and running workshops to empower clients with the knowledge and skills to address their housing-related issues. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to identify their needs and offer tailored solutions to help them achieve sustainable housing outcomes. The role will be based mostly in Southwark, and you will be working in partnership with schools, community organisations and the council to coordinate tailored support for each client to avoid eviction and sustain tenancies, address suitability of the property, mediating with landlords where necessary and providing advice for onward housing when needed. The objectives of these programmes are to avoid evictions, sustain tenancies or move to a better suited property, improve wellbeing and awareness of tenancy rights and housing polices.

Reporting to the CEO, you’ll directly manage four experienced team heads and oversee a high-performing team of 18 who generate bursary, unrestricted, and capital income. The role sits on the Senior Management Team, working closely with colleagues across the charity to connect fundraising with programme delivery, marketing, and business development, ensuring shared priorities and greater collective impact. You’ll also play a key role in the Fundraising and Marcomms Steering Group, ensuring effective working between fundraising and external engagement.
This is a broad, strategic role combining leadership, direction, and hands-on relationship management at one of the UK’s most respected youth charities. As Director of Fundraising, you will:
- Lead and support a multi-disciplinary fundraising function spanning major donors, corporate partnerships, legacies, trusts and foundations, and events

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for building strong working relationships across the business and advising, coaching and training stakeholders and the People team on best practice on all aspects of HR case work.
