Head of External Engagement

Clergy Support Trust is an organisation which “punches above its weight”, in terms both of the help provided to hardworking clergy households, and the influence we seek to have on Church culture. We are looking for an experienced communications professional, able to lead a broad function encompassing all aspects of our external engagement: media engagement, strategic communications, events and fundraising, so we are looking for someone with strong experience across these areas.

As member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of External Engagement will be joining the leading Anglican wellbeing charity, supporting thousands of households each year, as we embark on a new strategic period (2026-30) and at a pivotal point in our mission.

Key responsibilities include:

• To lead, manage and report on the work of the External Engagement team.

Fundraising Coordinator

Bexley Deaf Centre (BDC) is a small and dynamic, well-established charity which has been serving the borough since 1994. Our work is focussed exclusively on supporting people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. We work to raise awareness, break down barriers and promote understanding within the community.

We are looking for a dynamic and driven Fundraising Coordinator who can lead on our fundraising initiatives, support with the development of new projects and organisational change to facilitate the growth of our services.

This exciting fundraising role will include:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, creative and organised Events & Fundraising Officer to join our small, dedicated team. Working closely with the rest of the Events & Fundraising team, you’ll help deliver and grow LLST’s fundraising events across London and the South East, including the London Legal Walk, Regional Legal Walks, Great Legal Bake, and Great Legal Quiz, as well as manage our third party challenge events. You will help to engage our supporters and large database in the legal community to generate fundraising.

You will play a vital role in the planning and organising of LLST’s flagship London Legal Walk, bringing together over 19,000 members of the legal community to walk 10km through central London and raise vital funds for over 100 free legal advice charities.

You’ll also line manage the Events & Fundraising Assistant and play a key role in maintaining LLST’s excellent reputation.

· Lead on the strategic planning and implementation of income generation activities to help build sustainability of The Carers’ Centre and its services for 19,600 unpaid carers across Bath and North East Somerset.

· Develop and implement a stewardship programme for donors and funders building support and securing new income for The Carers’ Centre.

· Work collaboratively with colleagues to help deliver The Carers’ Centre vision for carers.

Income generation

· Design and deliver a diverse income generation plan to support philanthropy and fundraising in line with The Carers’ Centre Strategic Plan.

· Co-produce annual philanthropy and fundraising targets and take the lead responsibility to instigate and co-ordinate the activity that will achieve them.

· Build long-lasting relationships with key local philanthropists, donors, and funders.

· Work proactively with colleagues to research, identify and scope a portfolio of compelling projects and proposals that will appeal to donors and funders.

· Work closely with communication colleagues to develop appropriate communications campaigns and activities for different supporter groups.

About the role

A few practical things

• This is a hybrid role, requiring you to work from a YE office (London or Oxford) at least 8 times per month

Martingale Foundation is incubated by Purposeful Ventures who provide operational and strategic support. The Head of Communications and External Engagement will be employed by Purposeful Ventures.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and deliver a clear, bold strategy for communications, policy, and partnerships aligned with Martingale’s vision and growth.
• Lead the development of Martingale’s voice, ensuring consistency across all external channels and stakeholder interactions.
• Act as a senior leader within the organisation, contributing to overall strategic planning.

Communications & Brand

• Oversee all external communications, campaigns and media engagement, strengthening Martingale’s profile and influence.
• Manage content strategy, digital channels, storytelling and brand evolution.
• Ensure high-quality and accessible communications across print, digital, and in-person events.

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

• Maintain and grow relationships with Martingale’s university, philanthropic, and other partners.
• Collaborate with the CEO on fundraising engagement strategies and impact storytelling.
• Oversee ambassador engagement and support Martingale’s national and regional events.

Policy & Advocacy

• Lead Martingale’s policy and advocacy work to shape the future of postgraduate access and equity.
• Along with the CEO, represent Martingale in external forums, responding to consultations and influencing key stakeholders in research and education policy.
• Collaborate with researchers and partners to generate evidence and drive systems change.

Team Leadership & Management

• Line manage team leads across communications and partnerships, with oversight of a team of four.
• Support the professional development of the team, ensuring alignment with Martingale’s values and goals.
• Foster a collaborative, agile, and inclusive culture within and across teams.
• The post holder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the role as requested by the line manager.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences including senior stakeholders.
• Significant senior-level experience in communications, policy, or external relations within a mission-driven organisation.
• Proven experience line managing a multi-person team, including managing people who manage others.
• Strong track record of developing and delivering high-impact external engagement strategies.
• Excellent communication skills — strategic thinking combined with hands-on content expertise.
• Experience managing and cultivating high-value partnerships or donor relationships.
• Understanding of UK education, social mobility, or research funding landscapes.
• Proven experience in account management, managing multiple external stakeholder relationships and partnerships successfully.
• Advanced IT proficiency: Spreadsheet, Word Processing, CRM or Databases, Email, Web-based applications.

Desirable

• Experience working with or within higher education or research organisations.
• Familiarity with charity fundraising or philanthropic communications.
• Experience delivering communications in a startup or scale-up environment.
• Experience in working with governance boards and/or trustees.
• Experience delivering / overseeing ambitious recruitment campaigns.

The contract terms:

• Permanent contract​

• £75,000 - £80,000 per annum with Benefits​

•  Our full time hours are 35 hours per week, but we are passionate about flexible working - talk to us about your preferences. Due to the nature of our work, occasional weekend working may be required with time off in lieu given.​

About the Role

This is an exciting new opportunity to join our Business Development team as a Business Development Officer, reporting to the Head of Business Development!

You will play a pivotal role in supporting the growth, reach, and expansion of the services in which we deliver at Social Interest Group (SIG). The role focuses on identifying new funding and tender opportunities, preparing submissions, managing documents, and supporting with our Marketing efforts. Some of what this role entails includes:

• Leading on developing processes and procedures for approvals and submissions of grants and tenders
• Supporting with Marketing Communications including the intranet, social media, and merchandise management
• Conducting research and analysis to identify fundraising and tender opportunities
• Completing competitor analysis data to monitor trends and opportunities
• Taking the lead on drafting responses for small tenders and fundraising submissions for smaller bids and applications
• Preparing budget sheets for tenders and grants
