This role offers a senior position within the fundraising leadership team, a collaborative culture, and the opportunity to shape and expand Acorns’ work with major donors and trusts. You will inherit a capable team, a warm donor base, and strong organisational support to focus externally and drive long-term income growth. As Head of Philanthropy, you will:
- Oversee the pipeline for all philanthropic income streams, ensuring regular prospect research and systematic cultivation
- Co-canvass with the CEO and Director of Income Generation, who are both actively engaged in major donor stewardship
- Oversee the restricted income process, ensuring full cost recovery and compelling propositions
- Play a key role on the Care Committee and as part of the fundraising leadership team
- Lead on governance and processes for philanthropic boards and high-value appeals, including the upcoming appeal
- Represent Acorns externally, building credibility and long-term relationships with senior supporters and funders
- Collaborate with colleagues across fundraising, retail and wider departments to maximise opportunities
We are looking for:
- Strong track record in major donor fundraising from HNWIs, ideally including six-figure gifts
- Trusts and foundations experience, including restricted income and bid processes
- Skills in pipeline management, with strong control of the cultivation cycle and ability to use CRM insight to drive action
- An excellent communicator, with the credibility to engage high-net-worth individuals and senior stakeholders
- A proven people manager, able to support and develop a small team while keeping the role externally focused

Working arrangements: Hybrid, with 2 days per week rotating across hospice sites (Worcester, Walsall, Selly Oak) and potential for more based on business need, donor meetings etc.

About the role
This is a key role within the Philanthropy & Partnerships Team. You will lead the development and delivery of the Trust & Grants Strategy meeting and /or exceeding income targets, support the ongoing development and delivery of strategic objectives and KPIs, ensure strong stewardship of our existing donor relations and prospect new opportunities for funding. The Trusts and Grants Team sits within the Philanthropy & Partnership Team in Freedom from Torture’s friendly, creative and ambitious Fundraising & Communications Directorate.
You will represent the organisation externally with funders and work internally with colleagues to identify opportunities for funding, in the preparation of proposals and thereafter, reports.
About you
To be successful in this role you must have demonstrable experience of developing and implementing a plan to grow Trust & Grant income, successfully meeting or exceeding fundraising targets from a variety of funders and experience managing relationships with statutory funders and trust and foundations. You will have experience of managing fundraisers and supporting them to manage their priorities and portfolios. You will have experience of measuring and monitoring income and expenditure, and team performance.
It’s essential that you have excellent communication skills and can build relationships across the organisation to develop strong fundraising ideas and support engagement with senior staff in building relationships with trusts. You will have experience of managing donor funded grants including review of financial information, preparation of donor reports and donor compliance. You must have experience and knowledge of statutory and grant fundraising research tools and grant writing in the UK charity sector.

About Breadwinners
Breadwinners is a multi-award-winning social enterprise and charity that supports young people seeking asylum and refugees to have their first work experience in the UK, selling organic baked goods. Since 2016, we have steadily grown, and we are looking for our first Senior Fundraising Manager to help us take the next step in our growth journey. Breadwinner's unique model provides work, training and personal mentors, so that young refugees can start and progress in their careers, using our platform as a stepping stone. We achieve this goal through three consecutive programmes, using our award-winning bread stalls in markets across London and Brighton and wholesale for socially-minded cafes and restaurants.
Over the last 7 years, we have made a significant impact in supporting over 744+ programme participants, with an impressive 93% reporting notable improvements in their overall well-being, 76% of our Breadwinners programme participants progress into work, further education or volunteering, and all this while minimising our Carbon Footprint by 20.5% through the sale of organic goods. This year, we are planning to double our impact with young refugees, with recently secured funding, new markets, and a focus on our wholesale model.

We’re looking for someone passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young refugees and people seeking asylum. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of strategic thinking, hands-on fundraising experience, excellent communication skills and a strong sense of purpose. You will be working directly with the Managing Director, forming a team with a part-time Fundraising Manager, in direct contact with our passionate Core team, Board of Trustees and volunteers to secure grant funding, and develop our corporate and major donors streams. About the Role

The main purpose of this role is to support and assist Facilitators, Advanced Practitioner, Responsible Officers and Service managers in the administration of the Domestic Abuse contracts delivery by co-ordinating project resources such as people and equipment. The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining information systems linked to specific DA contracts.
