Working within the Business Planning and Strategy function you will be supporting the RSPB to assess customer and business needs, identify trends and generate ideas and solutions to deliver a broad, organisation wide impact.

As a skilled Data Analyst, you will be competent in analysing a range of data sets to identify the key insights that feed our long-term fundraising and communications planning, as well as identifying reactive opportunities. Your expertise in this area will assist the RSPB in making well-informed data driven decisions at a strategic and operational level.

You will be a skilled communicator with the ability to communicate complex insight in an engaging and impactful way to our key stakeholders.  You will be adept at developing relationships both internally and externally to share data, insights and best practice and you will keep abreast of innovation in the data industry to advise on the latest technology to improve the way we visualise and communicate insights.  Overall, this role will be both varied and challenging and suit those with an inquisitive nature and a drive to provide quality insights that make a difference.

What's the role about?

• Support stakeholders across the organisation with analysis and reporting to aid evidence-based decision making.
• Engage with stakeholders to understand objectives and translate them into clear analytical deliverables.
• Perform a range of analytical tasks to assess activity performance, interpret test results, and generate audience insights.
• Present findings in clear, engaging ways using reports, presentations, and other appropriate channels.
• Design and maintain interactive dashboards using Microsoft Power BI and other visualisation tools to enhance data accessibility.
• Promote the role and impact of the Business Planning and Strategy team across the organisation.
• Support the Business Planning and Strategy team by contributing to shared goals and ensuring quality through peer review processes.
• Stay informed about emerging trends and innovations within the charity sector and data analytics industry.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Strong analytical skills, with experience in conducting detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis, interpreting results, and identifying opportunities to drive efficiencies and value.
• Proficient in data analysis tools and systems, including advanced Microsoft Excel and Power BI (essential).
• Ability to present methodologies, data insights, and findings clearly and confidently to peers and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and organisational policies, as well as best practice standards within the data analysis domain.
• Experience in aligning standards, guidance, and strategic priorities with business needs and industry trends, contributing to future planning and roadmap development.
• Ability to influence and contribute to policy, procedure, and standards development within your area of expertise, and occasionally represent the department in decision-making forums and focus groups.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

• Experience with Apteco FastStats Discoverer and digital analytics tools is desirable.

Additional Information:

This is a 12 month Fixed-Term role for 37.5 hours per week.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

The Impact and Data Analyst is a new role, supporting the Board in exercising effective oversight of good governance, impact and DEI across the Operating Companies.  The focus of the role is to review, synthesise and interpret information and evidence provided by the Operating Companies and other relevant sources, to support Board-level assurance, insight and decision-making. 

The successful candidate will have sufficient technical expertise to assess the quality and credibility of data and evidence, and to support proportionate analysis or synthesis where this adds value to Board oversight. Other requirements of the role include the sound understanding of governance, impact or DEI related concepts, proficiency in using data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, NVivo), to undertake analysis and develop outputs that support synthesis and Board-level insight, and to assess the robustness, reliability and limitations of evidence provided.  Experience within a non-profit or impact led environment would be a bonus.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) is seeking a highly skilled Healthcare Audit Data Analyst to join our Research and Quality Improvement Directorate, which promotes evidence-based practice and improves health outcomes for children. This is an exciting opportunity to work on national audit programmes that shape paediatric care across the UK.

Reporting to the Project Manager (Audits), you will manage complex healthcare datasets, lead on data analysis using R/R Studio, and produce high-quality outputs for clinicians, commissioners, and policy makers. You’ll play a key role in delivering robust, reproducible analytical pipelines and ensuring data integrity and security throughout the audit lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing secure handling and analysis of complex audit datasets, ensuring compliance with data governance and protection requirements.
• Developing reproducible analytical pipelines to underpin audit outputs and support cross-audit working.
• Analysing large datasets using R/R Studio, producing results at unit, ICB, regional and national levels, and identifying trends and outliers.
• Maintaining robust data management processes within GitHub environments for version control and collaboration.
• Producing reports and data outputs for diverse audiences, including clinicians, commissioners, regulators, and patient stakeholders.
• Acting as a point of contact for technical and data-related queries from those submitting data for analysis.
• Planning analytical processes for upcoming projects and contributing to departmental reports, including interpretation and editorial content.
• Supporting the development and enhancement of data capture software and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential skills and experience:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in social or medical science, statistics, or another numerate discipline.
• Proven experience using R/R Studio (or VS Code) for data cleaning, aggregation, recoding, merging, and advanced analysis (including regression).
• Experience producing high-quality written reports and documentation for varied audiences.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security, and version control, including experience with GitHub.
• Ability to manage and interrogate large, complex datasets and apply appropriate statistical methodologies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with healthcare professionals.
• High level of numeracy, attention to detail, and accuracy.
• Strong IT skills, particularly in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

• Experience with Stata, SQL, or Python, and advanced Excel functions.
• Familiarity with Power BI or Quarto for data visualisation and reporting.
• Experience developing data export and dashboard reporting functions.
• Understanding of NHS organisational structures and experience preparing data for commissioners and regulators.

What we're looking for

We are looking for a quick-thinking, organised, insightful and analytical intern to join our consulting team. As an ethical organisation, Scriptoria does not believe in unpaid labour, so this position is a paid role with the real opportunity to turn into a full-time job for the right candidate. You won’t be doing coffee runs or endless photocopying, you will be a pivotal part of the team making a serious contribution to the work we do.

You will have at least a 2:1 or first-class honours degree and your English language, writing and communications skills will be excellent. An interest in sustainable development with the desire to create a positive change in the world is essential. A science-related degree could be beneficial, and a Master’s degree is an advantage but not essential.

Your role as an Intern in our Consulting Team

As a member of the consulting team (after sufficient training) you will be given the opportunity to work on some of Scriptoria’s exciting international consulting projects alongside senior team members. The work will be varied and will involve working closely with our team of developers to conceptualise and design our specialist project-management software for international development and research organisations. You will therefore have excellent communication skills to translate the needs of the clients into actionable instructions for the data team. As an individual, you need to see data science and technology as tools for problem solving and enjoy the analytical and “detective” work involved in applying them.

· Salary: Annual gross salary of £25,396.80 per year (pro rata), paid monthly 

· Location and hours: Home (UK only) or office-based in South London. Our standard working hours are 8.30am to 5.30pm every day with one hour for lunch (1pm to 2pm).

· Annual leave: 33 days’ holiday pro-rata in each complete calendar year including statutory and public holidays

· Sick pay: Up to 5 days’ paid sick leave per year, after which the UK government’s Statutory Sick Pay scheme will apply

· Pension: Pension contributions: 3% employer’s and 5% employee’s contribution (employees can contribute more if they wish)

This internship is full time (40 hours a week), five days per week for a six-month period, with an initial one-month probation. Our intern will be given regular reviews to track progress and a formal assessment after 1 and 3 months.

Flexible working location

Our staff have the choice about whether to work from home in the UK or from our office in Tooting, SW London, or a mixture of both, during regular operational hours. If working from home, staff must have a working environment suitable for holding video-call meetings with clients.
