PURPOSE OF POSITION
This is a critical frontline leadership role that is responsible for the operation of the organisation’s homelessness and rough sleeping services at Anchor House.
You will provide operational leadership to support services managers and ensure compliance with organisational, contractual, local authority and legal regulations and requirements. You will ensure the quality of services is pushed to the highest standards possible, ensuring excellent outcomes for residents and a positive and high performing working environment for teams.
This role will also be accountable for building and maintenance of excellent relationships with external partners, commissioners, other key stakeholders for support services in the organisation.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Service Delivery
· Lead in setting organisational standards and performance targets across the support services that reflect contractual requirements and organisational standards.
· Actively promote and develop person centred practices based on a trauma informed approach and psychologically informed environment to working with residents with high support needs and challenging behaviour.
· Be accountable for the operational performance of the services, allocating resources strategically to ensure that key performance indicators are achieved and that action plans are in place where required to improve service performance.
· Promote accountability and co-production approaches with residents.
· Support with the creation and review of local and service wide policies and procedures.
· As part of the Frontline Services Leadership Team, ensure the support services team follow established Health & Safety and building management procedures
· Contribute, and when required, lead on the formation and review of local and service wide policies and procedures.
· Contribute to the Frontline Service’s Management On Call rota, providing support to frontline services outside of office hours.
Stakeholder Management
· Develop and maintain close relationships and working protocols with external partners and local authorities to enable the service to meet agreed objectives and improve service outcomes.
· Submit management information on a monthly and quarterly basis and produce other statistics and data as directed by the Director of Frontline Services.
· Responsible for good and effective liaison with outside agencies including the police, social services and other statutory and voluntary agencies and delegating this work where appropriate.
· Represent the organisation externally at forums, conferences and meetings.
· Contribute to the wider management team in frontline services to ensure good communication, coordination and consistency of practice, approach and development across the Directorate.
Business Planning and Project Management
· Drive business planning activities within contracts, ensuring relevant and challenging objective setting and ongoing performance tracking, developing turn around action plans as may be necessary
· Where agreed, project manage new services or service developments.
· Working closely with Finance Department to set, manage and monitor allocated budgets for income and expenditure for support services and to ensure that teams keep within set performance targets.
· To ensure that financial procedures are maintained at all times in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
Managing and Developing People
· Creating an open and inclusive culture across the support services teams that reflects the organisation’s values.
· Developing performance targets and quality control measures for teams, and monitoring performance to ensure that these are met.
· Supporting managers and teams by setting clear objectives and holding individual supervisions regularly.
· Ensuring good communication across teams by holding team meetings regularly, and additional briefings as necessary.
· Inducting new managers and any other direct reports and planning the continuous professional development of existing managers through annual appraisals.
· Managing the workload of teams to ensure that adequate cover is provided at all times.
Safeguarding Lead
· To be the designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation ensuring that it meets legal duties, keeping policy and practices up to date
· To actively promote an open and accountable approach across the organisation as a whole that achieves best practice and keeps the best interest of the residents central to our safeguarding practices.
General
· To attend meetings internally as and when necessary, for example, Directorate, Management and planning meetings.

WHAT IS OUR SECOND HOME
We are a youth movement that empowers people with refugee backgrounds to build community, become leaders, and flourish into adulthood in the place that they call home.
We are looking for a highly engaging Leadership & Volunteering Manager to lead and grow our leadership training programming, and to lead on the recruitment, development and retention of our pool of volunteers. You will work across our various hubs to ensure all volunteers are well-supported, feel valued, and are making meaningful contributions to OSH’s mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership Training & Development

Oversee and continue to codify OSH’s LIT (Leaders in Training) course, including in-person and online sessions, and mentoring LITs on their first residential. This will include hands-on delivery, managing logistics, and working with volunteers and facilitators.

Co-design and develop other leadership programmes for young people.

Support young people from refugee backgrounds to move from participants to leaders within OSH.

Lead the delivery of training and induction for new and returning volunteers in hubs, at pre camp training days and leaders retreats. This includes safeguarding, group dynamics, facilitating groups, and OSH values, but will also include identifying gaps and trends in skills and experiences.

Help shape the pedagogy and outcomes of OSH’s leadership programmes.
Volunteer Strategy & Recruitment

Ensure there is an active pipeline of people signing up for the LIT course

Design and implement a volunteer recruitment strategy to attract a diverse range of volunteers from within OSH and externally.

ROLE SUMMARY
It is an exciting time to join the team, with income growing year on year and an increasing awareness of our brand through activities such as the recent Radio 4 Charity Appeal. We have ambitious plans and the Head of Fundraising will make a significant contribution to future growth; you will manage the Fundraising and Events team with oversight of income generation from various sources including major donors, individuals, trusts & foundations and a portfolio of events.
The role will suit innovative individuals with experience of fundraising from major donors and at least one of the other specified income streams, and event planning or project management.
You will represent upReach externally, acting as an ambassador for our work and building strategic relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. You will be accountable for income targets, developing the fundraising strategy and identifying new opportunities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head of Fundraising will contribute to upReach's mission by meeting financial targets, recognising when to make the fundraising ‘ask’ and leading the annual budget process. You will use clear, creative written communication to produce convincing cases for support, represent the charity at relevant networking events, work closely with the upReach Development Board and act as an ambassador for the organisation.
Reporting to the Director of Income Generation and External Engagement you will manage three direct reports and support individuals participating in the Future Charity Leaders Programme (upReach’s graduate scheme). You will work closely with the Head of Partnerships, CEO, Programmes and Finance teams and other colleagues across the income generating and external engagement team.

Leadership and strategy

Trusts, Foundations & Corporates

Oversight of Trusts, Foundation & Corporate fundraising strategy.

Work with the Senior Fundraising Manager to identify and build relationships with Companies, Trusts and Foundations which are mission and/or programme aligned.

Collaborate with the Head of Partnerships to build strategic relationships with companies that grow philanthropic and commercial income.

About Action for ME
Action for ME is the only charity in the UK providing support, including healthcare, to people of all ages affected by ME. The charity was founded by Sue Finlay in 1987 and since then has been taking holistic approach so we can make an impact on multiple fronts - from amplifying the voices of people affected by ME in Government and leading on breakthrough research, to providing "lifeline" support and unique healthcare services on a daily basis.
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), sometimes referred to and diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), is a chronic, fluctuating disease, causing symptoms such as post-exertional malaise (PEM), sleep problems, problems with thinking and memory (brain fog), pain and crushing fatigue. There are an estimated 1.3 million people living with ME or ME-like symptoms, including PEM, in the UK alone.
Even in its so-called mildest form, ME can have a significant impact on an individual’s life, and not just on their health. A lack of understanding and awareness about ME means patients can experience disbelief, and even discrimination, from friends, family, health and social care professionals, employers and teachers.
For the first time there is an increased awareness of post viral illness because of the Covid -19 pandemic. After decades of neglect this offers Action for ME an opportunity to accelerate our work for people with ME in a way we have never been able to do before. The intent of everything we do is to pursue positive impact for the lives, rights, and futures of people affected by ME.
Job purpose
This role will deliver an exceptional supporter experience to our donors, building and maintaining strong relationships with our supporters. Working closely with other members of the fundraising and communications teams, you will deliver our supporter journey, maintain regular communication with donors and be an integral part of our fundraising campaigns and appeals.
Key duties
- Work with the Fundraising Operations Manager to deliver our supporter journey, engaging current and prospective donors with our work and giving them an excellent experience of supporting Action for ME.
- Be responsible for creating the methods that ensure each supporter relationship is maximised, increasing retention rates for a growing supporter base. As such you will be required to engage with supporters so that they feel valued, and relationships can be developed further for the benefit of the charity.
- Lead on thanking donors, including making phone calls to donors as part of stewardship.
- Work closely with the Fundraising Operations Manager and the team to support the growth of income streams, including but not limited to, individual giving, Gift Aid, legacies, trading, community fundraising and membership.
- Work with the communications team on the delivery of digital communications, including social media and e-communications for a diverse range of audiences.
- Play a key role in fundraising appeals and campaigns including our yearly Big Give Christmas Challenge, Summer Appeal, Thanking Campaign and any other fundraising initiative or project as directed by the Fundraising Operations Manager or Director of Fundraising.
- Ensure excellent supporter care and maintenance of accurate database records.
- Create inspiring donor communications, including stories and impact from our wider work (support & healthcare services, research and policy work)
- Work closely with the Philanthropy Manager to identify potential major donors.
- Develop innovative and creative ways of widening our supporter base and increasing donations.

Person specification
Experience and knowledge
- Minimum 2 years previous fundraising experience
- Demonstrable skills in stewarding supporters and donors.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel for work, including basic excel functions, basic formulas and list tools.
- Experience of using a CRM database, preferably Raiser’s Edge
- Proven experience of effective donor stewardship approaches

The first year of this role will include some enhanced responsibilities, providing maternity cover for the Project Manager role from October 2025.
The role will involve attendance at events around the UK, the post holder will work out of the main office in Castaway House and remotely. Training in the internal systems of the Naval Children’s Charity will be provided and access to other relevant training as required.
This is a full time role of 35 hours per week which may need to be worked over 7 days/weekends to accommodate attendance at events as required.
