40% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard - many of these children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practise.
Chapter One is a small but growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3,300 children in 2024-25.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
This role is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the work of our fast-growing charity. You will work as part of the Chapter One Support Team, ensuring that our online reading volunteers have everything that they need - from onboarding to assisting with ID checks and responding to email queries. RI is seeking proposals from Microsoft App developers to develop an automated Travel Request Form (Lot 1) and Expenses Claim Form (Lot 2) within RIs Microsoft environment. The Forms will need to be able to populate relevant budget code data from RIs finance management system (Oracle Netsuite), use RIs single sign on (SSO) and MS Identity Service (EntraID) and preferably be able to work offline (sync’ing when the user has internet connectivity). Based on the data collected in the forms RI also requires a dashboard of relevant data to be generated using PowerBI (Lot 3).
Developers should bid for both Lot 1 and Lot 2 separately. The fees for Lot 3 (PowerBI) will be agreed with the successful bidder on completion of the initial scope of work related to Lots 1 and 2 and as such no quote is required for Lot 3 in this submission..
RI is open to revising its requirements based on recommendations from a developer where this can improve the functioning of the forms.
RIs IT department will be part of the developer selection process, and will review and sign off on all deliverables prior to any payment.
Lot 1: Travel Request Automation Requirements
A Travel Request (TR) form is to be created in Microsoft (MS) Apps, with an approval workflow automated using MS Automate, and using MS Lists if needed. It will be run on RIs SharePoint, and accessed the RI Sharepoint MyApps page. It can also preferably be used offline, with the data synchronising when a user has internet access.
Any RI staff can access and create a TR and submit it for approval in the RI MS environment. The fields for the TR are defined in Annex 1. Note that Annex 1 is broadly based on the RI pdf Travel Request form (with some differences), which is available in Annex 5.
Once a TR is submitted for approval it obtains a system generated unique serial number and follows the approval process and subsequent actions as outlined in Annex 2.
Once a TR is approved a traveller receives an approved TR via email, with a link to a form they can save and/or print, which they use to book relevant travel.
Traveller draft and approved TRs will be available for a traveller to access at any time on a dashboard within the RI Microsoft environment that only shows those relevant to the Travellers RI email address.
Lot 2: Expenses Claim Form Automation Requirements
A form is to be created to support Expense Claims and Cash Advance Settlements, called the Expense Report Form (ERF).

Any RI user with access to RI SharePoint can complete and submit this form. Based on the data collected in the forms RI also requires a dashboard of relevant data to be generated using PowerBI (Lot 3)
Any RI staff can access and create an ERF and submit it for approval in the RI MS environment. The fields for the ERF are defined in Annex 3. Note that Annex 3 is broadly based on the RI Expenses Claim Form (with some differences), which is available in Annex 6.
The ERF must be able to link with an approved TR (lot 1) in such a way that once a user has opened a new ERF they can point the ERF to a particular TR which then auto-populates relevant fields into the ERF (see Annex 3)
Once an ERF is submitted for approval it obtains a system generated unique serial number and follows the approval process and resulting actions as outlined in Annex 4.
Once a TR is approved a traveller receives an approved TR via email, with a link to a form they can save and/or print, which they use to book relevant travel.

The Organisation
ImpactEd Group consists of 3 discrete, but complementary, business units:
- ImpactEd Evaluation works with schools and organisations to analyse the impact of programmes and interventions to help partners do more of what works and less of what doesn’t.
- ImpactEd Consulting offers strategic and operational support for its partners, to address challenges and underpin carefully managed growth.
- The Engagement Platform (TEP) measures school and teacher engagement to support sustainable working cultures.
Since being founded in 2017, ImpactEd has worked with thousands of schools and hundreds of organisations, serving more than a quarter of a million pupils annually. We are a growing and skilled team of over 30 people. Our strategy commits to systemic impact by helping our partners to make better decisions and empowering our team to make decisions on behalf of the organisation as part of our aspirations for employee ownership.
The Opportunity
This role sits within our Evaluation unit in our Impact Partnerships team, who work with education organisations such as charities, universities and education technology companies (our ‘impact partners’). Our work focuses on helping these organisations to design and deliver evaluations, and to build their capacity for impact evaluation.
We are looking for a candidate who can support the team internally with a variety of delivery and administrative processes, working directly with our schools and partners to support their evaluation journey. This will include supporting new schools through their onboarding and data collection processes and monitoring their usage of our digital platform, the School Impact Platform. You will also be responsible for liaising with schools to schedule focus groups with teachers and pupils and organise these events accordingly, and supporting colleagues with facilitating data collection and analysis, which will include reporting processes and creating surveys which form part of our evaluation work with schools.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to apply for our new professional development pathway, launching this summer. On this two-year scheme, a small cohort will rotate between our practices, gaining wider experience within strategy, evaluation and operational development within the education and social enterprise space.
About You
We are looking for some of the following attributes, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others, and open to a range of backgrounds:
-
Understanding and experience of the UK education system
-
Experience of quantitative and qualitative data analysis (using Excel is preferred, and this doesn’t need to be highly advanced) and report writing
-
Experience of working within an administrative or customer service/partner focused role
-
Track record of effective process and project management.
As well as this, you are likely to be most successful in the role if you:
-
Communicate clearly and persuasively, both written and verbally
-
Have exceptional attention to detail and enjoy setting up and working to clear processes
-
Are analytical and happy to spend time reviewing research literature or scrutinising data
Are entrepreneurial and solution-focused: you can think on your feet and adapt to change.
Why Us?
As an organisation we care deeply about creating a meaningful place to work and supporting people to grow personally and professionally. These are reflected in our organisational values and our commitments to:
-
Agile and flexible working: responsive management, flexible hours, hybrid or fully remote working
-
Personal excellence: we invest significantly in professional development, including an individual CPD budget, and formal and informal training and support
-
Mental health and wellbeing: access to health and wellbeing advice and free therapist support.
Diversity and inclusion at ImpactEd Group
As a growing organisation we are committed to:
-
Becoming increasingly representative of the sector and geographies that we operate in
-
Providing a positive experience of work as part of an inclusive culture led by our organisational values
-
Maintaining an annual EDI action plan - led by the internal team and supported by a Board sponsor.
What to expect from the recruitment process:
-
We use a recruitment system, Applied, which debiases the recruitment process and all applications are anonymised until the point of interview
-
We implement a standardised interview template and competencies matrix.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
