Individual Giving Officer
We are looking for an Individual Giving Officer with experience and knowledge of fundraising, direct marketing and project management.
Position: CE375 Individual Giving Officer
Location: Home-based, UK, Nationwide. However, occasional travel will be required as part of this role (may include team meetings or other work-related meetings)
Salary: £34,470 per annum (inner London weighting £3,950 per annum or outer London weighting £2,275 per annum may be applied in accordance with where you live)

The Role
You’ll be part of an ambitious and highly motivated team responsible for delivering an ambitious and growing Individual Fundraising programme. Working with other officers, you will be reporting to either the Individual Giving Lead responsible for cause related products, or for gaming products.
You’ll be:
- Enthusiastically managing and delivering a range of fundraising and engagement campaigns and communications to develop and maximise support from loyal supporters via multiple channels, including telephone, mail, digital, and SMS.
- Using your fundraising and marketing experience and skills to create successful campaigns and complex supporter journeys to help us grow income and supporter engagement. (Working collaboratively with Digital and Social Teams, as well as external media agencies). Helping deliver on multi million annual plans to retain and recruit new supporters using the most effective techniques and channels, including Face to Face.
- Comfortable with figures and spreadsheets and have a head for figures, as you’ll be diving into the data an managing campaign costs.
- Responsible for maintaining and reporting accurate campaign results and reviews.
- Always looking out for new opportunities, using sprint pipeline methodology (testing, solving, learning from experiments) before scaling.
- Ensuring campaigns and gaming activities are fully compliant at all times… a knowledge of Gambling Commission rules would be a bonus.
About You
We’re looking for an individual who:
- Has great experience and knowledge of fundraising, direct marketing and project management, and can bring a real enthusiasm to the team. This role has a specific focus around supporter acquisition which includes face to face, paid digital, direct mail, telemarketing and eMarketing.
- Is fantastic at organising and prioritising a busy workload and knowledgeable of project management.
- Loves attention to detail and can work on several projects at once whilst thinking outside the box, as things can change quickly!
- In fact loves data and insight and enjoy applying insight to our campaigns
- Is a great all-round communicator, with both internal and external audiences
- And of course, we need you to be a resident of the UK and have the right to work in the UK.

What’s the job?
In this exciting and varied role, you will take the lead in delivering commercial marketing initiatives that add real value to both students’ unions and our supplier partners. Working within the Trading Support team, you’ll be responsible for planning and executing the activity against brand development programmes across key sectors including retail, catering, and licensed trade. These initiatives are designed not only to drive commercial returns, but also to deliver on the values and mission of NUS – putting ethical, sustainable, and student-focused outcomes at the heart of everything we do.

Your Role:
As Head of Individual Giving, you'll spearhead the charity's individual giving strategy, leading a successful multi-channel programme that engages and inspires thousands of supporters. You'll oversee an established direct mail programme generating around £8 million annually, while driving innovation across digital and broadcast appeals to diversify income and deepen relationships.
Reporting into a supportive Communications Director, you'll manage a talented team of fundraising and data specialists. You'll lead from the front, championing creativity, and ensuring campaigns are impactful, on-brand, and resonate with the charity's mission.
Key responsibilities include:
- Shape and deliver a dynamic individual giving strategy aligned with the charity's vision and goals
- Lead planning and execution of engaging campaigns across direct mail, digital, and broadcast channels
- Manage and grow a successful direct mail programme, optimising messaging, segmentation, and donor journeys
- Explore and test new ideas to acquire, retain, and reactivate individual supporters
- Build strong relationships with internal and external partners, including suppliers, to maximise campaign success
- Provide inspiring leadership, mentoring your team and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration
- Monitor performance against KPIs, analysing results to inform future strategies and reporting to senior leadership
- Act as an ambassador for the charity's mission, engaging supporters with stories of real impact
About you:

Your Role in Our Vision
Join our Legacy Administration Team and manage a varied and active caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary bequests. This is a pivotal role, helping to ensure that every gift left to Marie Curie is handled with care, accuracy, and respect — enabling us to continue delivering our essential services.
Legacy income is one of the most significant sources of funding for our charity. In this role, you will be responsible for safeguarding and maximising that income through diligent case management, effective communication with solicitors and executors, and a firm understanding of probate law and best practice. Your work directly contributes to our ability to care for people affected by terminal illness.
Experience across all UK jurisdictions is not essential, as full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary legacies across the UK.
- Ensure Marie Curie receives its full legal entitlement, in line with Wills and settlements.
- Handle correspondence efficiently, updating records on our FirstClass 4 database and meeting internal service standards.
- Act as the lead charity where appropriate and liaise with co-beneficiaries.
- Monitor and progress open cases to ensure timely completion.
- Review estate accounts carefully, ensuring accuracy and appropriate application of tax exemptions.
- Obtain tax deduction certificates where cost-effective to do so.
- Ensure funds are allocated correctly to restricted or unrestricted purposes as specified in Wills.
- Comply with Law Society guidelines regarding Non-Contentious Costs.
- Represent Marie Curie’s interests in shared estates and collaborate with legal professionals and the public.
- Identify and escalate potential risks or disputes that may affect our entitlement.
- Seek opportunities to maximise the value of legacies and proactively manage estate assets.
- Support stewardship activity by working closely with the Legacy Marketing and Local Legacy teams.
What You’ll Need
- Proven experience in legacy administration.
- Experience working in or with the charity sector.
- ILM Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration, Law Degree, or relevant professional qualification.
- Strong understanding of probate law and estate management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised with a strong attention to detail.
- Confident using digital systems and databases.

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of students and equip them to put their faith into action?
SCM is looking for a recent graduate to spend a year working with us to help us to continue to build on the work of our successful Faith in Action project.
Run in partnership with Project Bonhoeffer, a small charitable trust, the project began in 2012 with a vision that Christian students in Britain would have a greater awareness and understanding of Bonhoeffer’s radical approach to faith and discipleship, and its implications for Christian living in the modern world.
The project has helped to run over a dozen campaigns from Food Poverty to Peace, and had an immeasurable impact on thousands of students through blogs, resources, and relationships. All of this is bringing to light many ‘Bonhoeffers’ of today negotiating the implications on Christian living in the world.
In 2021 we developed the Faith in Action project as a graduate scheme by employing two graduates to work on the project; one to lead on theology bringing a depth of learning and theological refection, and the other to be a campaigns lead, taking us always back out into the world to make a difference.
The project has been very successful, and now we are looking to grow it for further. We are looking for a passionate graduate to join the project for the 2025-26 academic year.
In this role, you will be a theologian to make other theologians, and will provide the framework for students to be able to reflect theologically on their life and modern Christian Living. You will be responsible for growing the breadth of SCM’s Faith in Action resources, and discovering new ways of connecting with the current membership via the trends of social media or engaging in face-to-face reflections. An activist to make other activists, you will coordinate social action for SCM, engaging the membership in social justice projects that maximise our impact in society and the world.
You will work to build relationships between SCM communities and members to equip students with the skills they need to become faith-filled agents of social and political change and lead them in theological reflection to discern their involvement in local and national campaigns. You will also work to develop relationships with other Christian social justice and campaigning organisations to create opportunities for students to put their faith into action. In all of this, you will be supported by our small but perfectly-formed team, who will share your values and fully understand your aims in this project.
The role will require some travel within Britain, as well as semi-regular visits to the office in Birmingham, which may also include an overnight stay. All reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation will be reimbursed. Some evening and weekend work may be required for which time off in lieu will be given.
