ABOUT THE ROLE

The Casework Team provide specialist casework advice and support to bereaved families and individuals following a contentious death in custody and detention settings or through multi agency failings, requiring an inquest. You will be working alongside an experienced Casework Team, led by two Senior Caseworkers. You will have close contact with the Family Engagement Coordinator and with the Policy and Communications team.

The purpose of the role is to provide specialist advice to bereaved families facing an investigation and inquest process into a state related death; advising on the process immediately following a death, secure legal representation for families through the INQUEST Lawyers Group; liaise with external organisations, including lawyers, coroners and public bodies such as the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and the Independent Office for Police Conduct, work alongside the Communications Team on media engagement; and identify key cases and issues arising as part of INQUEST’s policy and campaigns work.

The successful candidate will have experience of casework and advice provision, preferably in inquest law and related investigations. They will be expected to identify themes and trends arising from cases and contribute to the organisations strategic work. In addition, they will be required to organise stakeholder meetings and represent INQUEST at external meetings.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join CSW, a Christian organisation working for religious freedom through advocacy and human rights in the pursuit of justice. We are seeking a Finance Officer with a keen eye for detail, and an aptitude for learning new skills, to take on purchase ledger and payroll administration duties in our Finance Department.   You will have either begun on the path of attaining a financial qualification or had some experience in a similar role.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all purchases, payments and returns, including supplier invoices, staff payments (salaries, expenses and advances), project and contractor payments and credit card transactions.  Responsible for project reporting against budget.

• Ownership of the purchase ledger system, administering the entire process of invoice receiving, checking, coding, distributing for approval, posting to the accounts software (currently Sage), setting up domestic and international payments for authorisation, and electronic filing of documents.

At Yorkshire Cancer Community, our vision is for everyone affected by cancer to have the best support possible. We are a patient-led charity, with a dedicated team of volunteers and staff who are passionate about helping anyone affected by cancer.

Working in partnership with West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance (WYHCA), we aim to help reduce cancer rates through our Cancer SMART project, which raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer, so people are better informed, attend screening and know where to go for help.

Our Patient VIEW project is dedicated to representing the voices of patients, carers and service users, ensuring they are central to decision-making processes within cancer care.

We provide impartial and independent information and listen to those affected by cancer to ensure that they are supported.  We signpost to other charities and support groups, share information, recruit for research studies and share stories via our monthly newsletter.

As manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring we reach our goals, by building relationships with other charities, organisations and diverse groups, recruiting volunteers, working with our board of trustees, working in partnership with the WYHCA, and line management of our two staff members  – Patient VIEW coordinator (FT) and administrator (PT).

Position: Manager

Responsible to: Trustees, Yorkshire Cancer Community (YCC)

Location: Home based - the charity covers all of Yorkshire and the Humber but the main projects and focus are currently within West Yorkshire and Harrogate areas and the postholder will be expected to travel to meetings and events

Hours: 35 hours per week (full time) with some flexibility

Salary: £32,000 - £36,400 depending upon experience + pension 5% employer contribution

Holidays: 25 days + 8 bank holidays + 3 gift days between Christmas and New Year per annum

Key Tasks

1. To engage, manage and supervise Cancer Champions for the delivery of the Cancer SMART  programme with collaboration between Yorkshire Cancer Community and West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance.

2. To build relationships with charities, organisations and diverse groups where we can take Cancer SMART talks and information stalls.

3. To identify, develop and liaise with local individuals and support groups to encourage engagement and involvement within their own cancer communities.  The aim is to provide a channel for patient participation to influence cancer service development and improvement.

4. To administer and oversee the collation and sharing of information relative to the objectives of YCC by using the appropriate means of communication. This will include social media, the website, calendar of events, effective use of YCC data sources and the newsletter.

5. To work with the Board of Trustees to support the governance of the charity which will include the preparation and management of trustee meetings, contribute towards Business planning and unding strategies.

6. To provide supportive supervision to the Administrator and Patient View Coordinator

About the role

As a Digital Content Editor, you'll support the work of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) content team(s) across BHF. You’ll aid the work of the content design and production team. Day to day you’ll work collaboratively with different website editors, reviewing content for quality control in our CMS, improving processes and guidelines, and working independently to identify user issues and needs. You'll also support the content team by providing administrative resource across the team’s content creation and migration projects and workflows.

About you

You bring relevant experience from a similar role and thrive in fast-paced environments, responding quickly and calmly to emerging opportunities across a diverse range of products and services.

Working arrangements

Summary

The Human Resources department provides a strategic and operational HR service to the seven National Church Institutions (NCIs) and the 42 Diocesan Bishops' offices. Our HR Operations team focusses on the entire employee lifecycle providing support, advice and guidance to senior leaders, line managers and staff. The Organisational Development team lead on culture, values, wellbeing, development and our belonging & inclusion strategy. Through our External Service team, we also offer HR support on a consultancy basis to other Church of England organisations including our dioceses and cathedrals.

The NCIs comprises a wide variety of functions and professions to support the mission and ministries of the Church by working with those who serve in parishes, dioceses, schools and other ministries, and with partners at a national and international level.

• Reviewing risk assessments that have been completed by staff and line managers, requesting additional information, and advising on risk mitigation;
• Supporting requests for adjustments and additional equipment may be required, including requests for Access to Work funding, liaising with Facilities and Technology Services as required;
• Supporting the Head of Health & Safety in reviewing accidents and incidents that occur across NCI sites or involve colleagues in the course of their work;
• Advising staff travelling overseas on potential risks;
• Managing the lone worker safety devices used by the NCIs;
• Administering our Health Cash Plan scheme;
• Day to day administration of our Health & Safety reporting system;
• Assisting in the preparation of Health & Safety reports e.g., the Joint Staff Council and Health and Safety forum.

As an adviser within the HR Operations team, you will also get involved in responding to other types of HR queries via email, phone and Teams chat, and supporting colleagues in using our Oracle Employee and Manager self-service.

Key role requirements:

• This is a hybrid working role which can be based in our offices in either York or London.
• The HR Operations Team typically works from the London office 1-2 days per week depending on business need. Travel to other sites may also be required from time to time.
• Visits to other NCI work locations may also be required from time to time.

You'll need previous experience of advising on and reviewing health and safety risks, including Display Screen Equipment, lone working and overseas travel with, or working towards, a recognised Health & Safety certificate (e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent).

We're looking for someone who has:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with accuracy and attention to detail including with numerical data. You will need to be able to communicate clearly to stakeholders at all levels within the organisation.
• An enthusiastic and highly organised approach to work, with the ability to understand and process high volumes of information. You will need to be able to work comfortably with competing priorities and show flexibility in your approach to customers to understand differing expectations.

An interest in and willingness to learn broader HR policies and processes. Experience in HR in addition to Health & Safety would be an advantage.

• A salary of £40,572 per annum, plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.
