About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and oversee the strategic delivery of Care4Calais’ operational (direct aid provision) work across all regions. This is quite a newly created role that will play a central part in shaping the charity’s growth, resilience, and day-to-day effectiveness—ensuring our humanitarian aid reaches those who need it most.

The COO will work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Trustees, to develop internal systems, guide operational teams, maintain consistency across all projects, and strengthen our digital communications, training, safeguarding, and volunteer engagement. You will also play a key leadership role in fostering innovation, implementing policy, and coordinating multi-regional delivery across the UK and Northern France.

This is a remote-based role, but regular travel to operational sites in Calais and around the UK is essential to ensure quality, cohesion, and morale across our field teams and volunteer network.

Key Responsibilities

➣ Strategic & Operational Leadership

• Oversee the delivery of all operational activities across the UK and French field sites, ensuring they align with Care4Calais’ mission, values, and strategic goals.

• Lead and support UK Field Operations Managers and France Operations Coordinators in planning and executing aid distributions, support services, and community engagement.

• Monitor performance across regions, using data and feedback to drive improvements in impact, efficiency, safety, and volunteer satisfaction.

➣ Volunteer Coordination & Digital Community Oversight

• Supervise volunteer communication channels, including Facebook groups, WhatsApp chats, and other platforms, ensuring all messaging is consistent, safe, and in line with our organisational tone and values.

• Support the recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of a diverse and inclusive volunteer base.

• Work daily with Field Operations Managers to provide hands-on guidance, motivation, problem-solving and support for regional leads and volunteer teams.

➣ Training, Safeguarding & Compliance

• Develop, maintain, and implement comprehensive training programmes for volunteers to ensure service quality, safety, and dignity for people seeking asylum.

• Ensure that safeguarding policies are understood by all team members, staff and volunteers alike, and rigorously implemented, acting as a point of escalation for issues that arise.

• Oversee incident reporting processes, risk assessments, and other compliance-related procedures to safeguard both volunteers and people seeking asylum.

➣ Organisational Development & Governance

• Contribute to strategic planning and policy development with the CEO, and SLT.

• Identify opportunities for innovation in service delivery, volunteer management, and infrastructure.

➣ Field Engagement & External Representation

• Conduct regular visits to UK and French operational sites, meeting with local teams, assessing needs, and providing in-person leadership and support.

• Represent Care4Calais in meetings with partner organisations and local authorities, and at public events.

Person Specification

Essential

• Demonstrable experience managing multi-site teams.

• Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to delegate effectively and manage competing priorities.

• Deep understanding of issues affecting asylum seekers, displaced people, or those facing immigration challenges.

• Commitment to anti-racism, inclusivity, and the promotion of human rights.

• Ability and willingness to travel frequently to field operations across the UK and Calais.

Desirable

• Proven experience in a senior operational, COO, or equivalent leadership role within the charity, humanitarian or grassroots community sector.

• Experience working with refugee communities or within the UK asylum system.

You will ensure all due diligence processes are recorded and segment data to maximise Trust, Foundation and Corporate income.

Overview / purpose of the role

We’re looking for a Finance & Operations Officer who is interested in developing a career in bookkeeping and/or accountancy within the nonprofit sector. • Processing and coding invoices  in Xero accounting software ahead of weekly payment runs

• Checking that correct coding and approval procedures are followed for staff expenses

• Maintain/organise our filing and cloud storage systems logically and efficiently, in a data protection compliant manner.

• Ad hoc IT support as required, including online troubleshooting and logging support requests with service providers when necessary.

• General administrative support to the CEO and Head of Operations & Evaluation

Human Resources

• Support with recruitment processes within CGP, including assisting members of the team to schedule and coordinate job interviews, contact candidates and file incoming applications. 

• Working with the Head of Operations & Evaluation to organise internal events like team away days and staff team building activities.

Person specification

The right candidate will bring some prior experience in a relevant role, alongside enthusiasm for nonprofit finance and operations. They will have an aptitude for maths and finance,  excellent attention to detail and a meticulous, methodical approach to work and troubleshooting.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has 1–2 years of experience in a finance, bookkeeping, administrative, or operations role

• Is interested in building a career in nonprofit finance and is open to pursuing further financial training

• Is broadly supportive of UK Aid 

• Is an independent worker, self-starter who can take responsibility for projects through to completion

• Has excellent IT skills, proficient with MS Office programmes (particularly Excel) and Google Workspace, and the ability to learn to use new software as required (for example, Xero, Soldo and Salesforce)

• Has great people skills, and the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders

What the job involves

This is a unique chance to play a pivotal role in driving impactful external communication strategies that support High Value, Philanthropy and Partnerships teams. As a key player in the Strategic Communications, Campaigns and Brand team, you’ll enable the integration of high value fundraising activities into wider organisational communications, inspiring action to fund life-saving initiatives that help men navigate prostate cancer.

Supporting the Head of Strategic Communications, Campaigns and Brand and our senior Business Partner in embedding and developing our business partnering model. A major part of the role will be enabling the integration of High Value Fundraising activity into the wider communications plan to enhance results from our communications.

You’ll work closely with our Philanthropy, Corporate Partnerships and Appeal teams to help plan and deliver inspiring communications that support our fundraising strategy. From pitching proposals and event promotion to major appeal campaigns, you’ll help build strong relationships with major donors and partners. You’ll also make sure high value fundraising activity is joined up with our wider communications and campaigns to grow fundraising revenue, support our community and improve outcomes for all men affected by and at risk of prostate cancer.

Please note this role is known internally as Communications Business Partner (High Value Fundraising).

We are looking for an experienced Senior Finance Manager, who  will be responsible for the financial management and reporting of the organisation. Able to manage the day-to-day financial analysis and reporting requirements for Money Ready, and provide input for strategic financial planning. Using a business partnering model, ensure all budget holders are fully supported in their roles. Responsible for the delivery of all management accounts, budget, forecasts and donor reporting as well as the annual statutory accounts. Helps deliver Money Ready’s strategic objectives, identifies the key financial risks and develops the internal controls environment.

The Senior Finance Manager will be a member of the SMT. This role will lead or contribute to the implementation of new financial systems, tools, or procedures that improve efficiency, compliance, and transparency.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensures the timely and accurate production of all management and annual accounts and all forecasts in accordance with best practise and statutory requirements.
• A key business partner who provides value added business support and financial insight to the SMT and colleagues throughout the Charity.
• Provides financial insight to development team to assist with fundraising bids, prepare donor budgets, and ensure donor reporting and compliance throughout the grant life cycle.

• Responsible for monthly payroll including monthly and annual RTI reporting to HMRC, pensions payments, annual payroll processing and relevant reconciliations.
• Work with auditors on preparing the audit strategy and manage annual audit process, providing all the relevant paperwork during the audit process.
• Be a positive change champion for the organisation, identifying key impact areas and priorities and supporting change programmes and strategies in both finance and across the Union as a whole.
• Prepare quarterly VAT returns with reconciliations and reporting. Line management, objective setting and performance reviews for direct report.
• Establish and maintain a robust internal controls environment that is fit for purpose but uses a risk-based approach to the establishment of processes and procedures.

Personal Specification

• You will need to show;
• Experience Substantial experience in a finance or accounting role (including at management level) in a not-for profit organisation.
• Substantial experience in the preparation of monthly management accounts and year end accounts.
• Substantial experience in processing monthly payroll using QuickBooks Payroll and Sage Payroll.

Senior Finance Officer

14 hours per week

As our Senior Finance Officer you will contribute to Career Ready’s finance and operations function by providing high quality financial support to the charity. Working as part of a small team of three, you will perform core finance tasks and will support the Head of Finance and Operations with budgeting, reporting and auditing activities.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities

Bookkeeping and Accounting

• Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into Xero Accounts
• Assist with the annual audit
• Maintain financial files and records
