About Development Initiatives (DI)

Our vision is a world without poverty that invests in human security and where everyone shares the benefits of opportunity and growth.

We are an independent international development organisation that focuses on putting data-driven decision-making at the heart of poverty eradication.

We are the current hosts of the Global Nutrition Report (GNR), which is the world’s leading report on the state of global nutrition. It is data-led and produced independently each year to cast a light on where progress has been made and identify where challenges remain. The report aims to inspire governments, civil society and private stakeholders to act to end malnutrition in all its forms. It also plays the important role of helping hold stakeholders to account on the commitments they have made towards tackling malnutrition.

We’re looking for a Senior Nutrition Scientist to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract and provide expertise for GNR products.

The Benefits

- Competitive salary DOE
- Pension (5% employer contribution)
- Healthcare scheme or medical insurance (depending on location)
- Flexitime and homeworking options
- Paid professional fees and study leave
- Enhanced holiday entitlement, plus all bank and public holidays and discretionary paid time off at Christmas
- Buy/sell holiday scheme
- Up to five days’ paid leave for charitable work (volunteering to address poverty and/or help vulnerable people)
- Smart casual dress code policy

If you have a strong background in nutritional research, this is a superb opportunity to play an important role in the delivery of a world-class report.

Working as part of a passionate and highly skilled team, you will oversee the creation of content that will help to address global poverty and nutrition levels.

So, if you are looking to take on a challenging, yet highly rewarding contract where you can make a real difference in a short space of time, we want to hear from you.

The Role

As the Senior Nutrition Scientist, you will oversee the scientific and content development of GNR products, including shadow writing the Global Nutrition Report.

Working under the guidance of the Independent Expert Group (IEG) Co-Chairs, you will:

- Take the lead on nutrition research and science at DI
- Oversee the DI GNR Data Team and support them in gathering data for analysis, interpretation, and reporting
- Commission background work, case studies or further analytical work
- Conduct evidence synthesis on specific topics identified by the IEG Co-Chairs and interpret and draw evidence-based conclusions from scientific literature
- Support the promotion of our work and provide interviews when required

About You

To join us as a Senior Nutrition Scientist, you will need:

- At least five years’ overall experience in nutritional research with an emphasis on nutrition indicator data collection, management and analysis
- At a minimum, one year of post-doctoral experience in nutritional research
- A strong publication record (with a minimum of 15 published articles in peer-reviewed journals)
- Experience with statistical software, such as Stata, R, or SAS
- A sound understanding of dietary assessment methods, nutrition indicators/metrics, the double burden of malnutrition, large dataset management, global nutrition data from different countries and regions, and diet-disease burden modelling and quantification
- To be educated to degree level in Human Nutrition or Dietetics
- A PhD in Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Public Health Nutrition, Food Policy or a related field

Other organisations may call this role Nutritional Research Lead, Senior Nutritional Researcher, Nutritional Research Project Manager, or Nutritional Research Programme Manager.

The closing date for applications is the 14th August 2020.
