Job description

JOB SPECIFICATION 

Job Title: National Fundraising Officer 

Responsible to: Liberal Democrats Head of Fundraising

Salary: £27,000-£32,000 per annum depending on experience

Benefit: 8% Employer’s Pension Contribution

Hours: Full time (40 hours per week) , One year contract

Flexible location with travel:  this role will be based at Liberal Democrat HQ in Westminster with remote working possible.  There will be travel required to meet National and Local Liberal Democrat Parties (principally Wales) as well as  travel to meet donors around the country (where this can be COVID-19 regulation compliant). 

Purpose of job:  The role will sit within the fundraising team at HQ in London as the lead on Welsh Party and national fundraising.  This position will work closely with candidates and fundraising volunteers to deliver Welsh fundraising targets ahead of the 2021 Senedd elections. 

Background 

This is an important time to be working in British politics. In Spring 2021 there will be national elections in Wales as well as an unusually high volume of local elections, delayed from spring 2020 because of the pandemic.  The Welsh elections are the most important in the electoral cycles of this nation. You will be joining an experienced fundraising team at HQ that is focused on mobilising support from major donors to enable further growth across the Party and your focus will be on helping to raise funds for national elections. We are looking for a highly organised, motivated, and entrepreneurial team member with strong fundraising skills and an interest in politics.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the major donor fundraising team at HQ you will be the point of contact for all national and regional fundraising, liaising with our national parties and local parties;

Fundraising for Wales will involve working with and mobilising key figures in the Parties, including Leaders, CEOs and Treasurers.  Working with local parties will involve liaising with Councillors and local party Organisers as well as MPs;

With the Welsh Party you will lead in the management of the fundraising operation in Wales, working with the Welsh Party CEO to create and deliver the new fundraising strategy;

Oversee donor communications and draft funding proposals;

Identify, research and make contact with new prospects, securing individual meetings or their attendance at donor events;

Cultivate donor relationships and engagement  through communications, meetings, calls, online events and individual relationship-building.  Running in- person events will be part of the role if these can be delivered in compliance with the relevant pandemic rules.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

We are looking for an organised, motivated and experienced individual who will thrive in an externally facing role and a fast-paced work environment. 

Essential Skills and Experience 

More than two years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on individual donors and HNW individuals; 

Confident and able communicator who can successfully approach donors and prospects and persuade them to support the Liberal Democrats; 

Ability  to secure gifts from donors and prospects; 

 Experience of working with senior stakeholders and board members and engaging them in fundraising efforts; 

Excellent writing skills and experience in developing compelling donor proposals and providing strategic advice for briefings; 

Flexibility to work some evenings as well as travelling between London and other nations/regions where it is safe to do so.

Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats. 

Desirable Skills and Experience 

1. Knowledge of PPERA rules governing donations to political parties; 

2. Experience with Raiser’s Edge database 

3. Experience with legacy fundraising.
