Job summary

This role will predominantly support the Service Delivery Managers and Support Officer across the UK in the effective planning and delivery of wheelchair skills training to meet the strategic objectives. The postholder will be required to work directly with young people and their families, schools, colleagues, partner organisations and professionals, delivering accredited training across the UK.

The person

You will be part of the Young People’s Services Team who provide a range of services and activities for young wheelchair users and their families. You will have a friendly and professional approach to working with families and professionals and be highly organised to manage planning, delivery and relevant paperwork for all wheelchair skills services. 

Key accountabilities

• Coordination and delivery of wheelchair skills training, travel training and train the trainer across the UK.
• Conduct on site visits prior to delivery of travel training to plan routes and inform risk assessments.
• Book relevant modes of transport for travel training sessions.
• Writing Service Level Agreements for key partners; content providers and schools.
• Obtaining information from content providers and schools, such as Public Liability, DBS and key Risk Assessments.
• Writing Care Plans & Risk Assessments.
• Ensure schools complete paperwork for accredited services and liaise with Skills & Education group regarding learners
• Sending event invites to young people and families and updating the database as required.
• Updating all documentation for events and participants onto the database.
• Promoting Whizz Kidz services to third party organisations in order to drive new applications/referrals.
• Attending events such as Kidz to Adultz exhibitions to promote Whizz Kidz and showcase wheelchair skills training.
• Ensuring feedback and monitoring data is collected at each event and at set intervals after the event in order to measure long term impact.
• Collate information for case studies to measure impact of training.
• Liaising with Trainers when required.
• Liaising with young people, families and schools as required.
• Ordering equipment and resources where needed.
• Attending Whizz Kidz services across the country if required in order to support the Service Delivery Managers and Services Support Officer.

The post holder will provide both strategic and operational support to Family Action’s adult mental health services in Bolton and Wigan:
• Bolton Listening Lounge and Wigan Crisis Space: operating from 3pm to 10pm, 7 days a week. These services form part of the Greater Manchester VCSE Crisis Pathway, a non-clinical alternative to A&E offering support to people experiencing mental and emotional distress and suicidal ideation
• Sub-contracted to TOGS Mind, Family Action is a VCSE delivery partner for the 111 press 2 / Mental Health Urgent Triage team located within the Northwest Ambulance Service call centres.

Listening Lounge Services in Bolton and Wigan operate between the hours of 3pm and 10pm 7 days a week. There is an expectation that the post holder will work to a flexible rota to meet the needs of the service and to provide onsite management support. Typically, this will include at least 2 weekend days per month from 2pm to 10pm on site – one in Bolton and one in Wigan, and two evenings per month during the week from 2pm to 10pm. These to be arranged in collaboration with the Service Managers from Bolton Listening Lounge and Wigan Crisis Space.

Role Purpose

Responsible for helping to ensure the effective delivery of the Regional Fundraising strategy in relation to generating sustainable income from third parties and campaigns. The Communications and Media Manager will lead clear, effective and impactful communications that raise NYA's profile, strengthen its reputation and support organisational priorities. The postholder will develop compelling messages, manage proactive and responsive media activity, and translate complex policy, research and practice into accessible communications, supporting campaigns, launches and stakeholder engagement including Youth Work Week and youth voice activity.

Key Responsibilities

As our Communications & Media Manager, you will:

• Plan and deliver communications activity around launches, research reports, policy activity, events and wider external moments, ensuring plans are fully scoped and uploaded to the NYA's project management system with impact measured using appropriate metrics across digital, social and traditional media.
• Lead the delivery of an ambitious and creative media strategy, identifying opportunities, building relationships with journalists and commentators and identifying thought leadership opportunities.
• Work with senior leaders, spokespeople and subject experts to develop clear, accurate and consistent messaging on key issues, announcements and organisational priorities.
• Work with charity and corporate partners to maximise opportunities to demonstrate the impact of their support.
• Maintain strong stakeholder communications, including building and maintaining contact databases, distribution lists and audience segmentation.
• Provide communications advice and support to colleagues across the organisation, helping them communicate complex work clearly and confidently.

OASIS PARENT AND CARER SUPPORT WORKER

HOURS: Full time, 40 hours per week (flexible hours), inclusive of breaks

In April 2021 we launched the GM Navigators project to support young people impacted by youth violence.  In response to feedback from parents and carers, the PACS project was set up in 2023 to assist Parents and Carers identifying their child as ‘at risk’. Since this the service has gone from strength to strength with Parents and Carers engaging from all 10 GM boroughs.  We have securing funding to continue this project until 2027 with potential for further extensions.

Oasis is recruiting a PAC Support Worker to be part of the PAC Project.   

As a PAC Support Worker you will;

· Support parent and carers that identify their child is “at risk” offering them advice and guidance, practical support and linking them in with services/groups that will provide them with a sustainable support network.

· Help parents and carers to develop projects to raise awareness of the issues they are facing, offering peer support and influence policy and system change. 

· Be trained in Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) and other parenting approaches to support parents and carers to respond to their children’s needs, de-escalate situations and maintain good relationships within their home.

· Delivering our ‘Encounter’ Parenting Training (based on the principles of NVR) online and in-person to groups of parents and host online and in-person support groups for parents and carers.

· Be integral to the shaping and development of the PAC project utilizing the feedback of those you are working with to ensure the project is impactful and meeting parent’s and carers needs as a priority.

• Empower Parents and Carers that want to set up groups or run campaigns to raise awareness of issues they are facing.  Managing resources to support them to turn their ambitions into reality.

Supporting Young People

• Act as the first point of contact for people experiencing homelessness and referral partners, providing advice and signposting

• Conduct needs and risk assessments with potential Nightstop guests

• Coordinate and manage the logistics of each placement with volunteer hosts

• Work proactively with guests and partner agencies to identify longer-term accommodation options

• Provide ongoing support to guests and volunteers, including participation in a 24-hour on-call rota

• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all guests and volunteers at all times

Volunteer Recruitment, Promotion and Engagement

My Journey from Volunteer to Manager

When I moved to the UK in 2013, I joined the charity through a one-year European Voluntary Service placement, supporting vulnerable and homeless young people in a drop-in café. It didn't take long for me to connect with the organisation's mission and values, and I quickly realised that I wanted to build my career in an organisation dedicated to making a real difference.

They recognised not only my commitment but also my background in social work and passion for supporting others. At the end of my volunteering placement, I secured a role as a Nightstop Project Worker, where I spent four years delivering emergency accommodation services across 12 local authority areas and training volunteers who played a vital role in supporting young people in crisis.

One of the charity’s greatest strengths is its commitment to developing its people. Throughout my career, I was encouraged to expand my skills through leadership and management training, while being given the trust and autonomy to take on new challenges. This investment in my growth led to promotions first to Prevention Services Manager for the North East and Cumbria, and later to National Prevention Services Manager.

Today, I lead a dedicated team delivering family mediation, emergency accommodation, and housing advice services that help prevent youth homelessness across the country. Location and Working Hours

This is a home-based role with flexible remote working arrangements. Regular travel across the UK is required to support conferences, trustee and committee meetings, planning days, and other organisational activities. On average, this is expected to be around once a month, although the level of travel will go up and down, with some periods busier than others. Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed in line with UKATA policies.

We are looking for someone who can work 30 hours across at least four days a week, primarily during normal weekday office hours. Some flexibility will be required to attend occasional evening meetings and weekend events.

Salary

The full-time equivalent salary for this role is £40,000. The pro rata salary is £32,000.
