The position of Chief Operating Officer is an exciting new role within the charity. The last few years have seen Coram’s Fields grow both operationally and financially, and we now employ around 65 staff and in 2024/25 are expecting to turnover c.£2.4 million.
As our organisation and team has grown, so too has the need to strengthen our infrastructure and we are now looking for an experienced and skilled COO, to drive operational improvements across the key areas of HR, Finance and commercial.

Role responsibilities
As the Initial Support Lead, you will:

work innovatively to shape the concept of an Initial Support Pathway, with a view to assisting agencies in identifying, safeguarding, and supporting potential adult victims. This may require the delivery of awareness raising sessions, whilst also working closely with First Responders to tactically advise in a manner that secures the best outcome for victims.

The Initial Support Pathway will provide short-term support to adults who have experienced exploitation. The pathway initially focuses on the individual’s basic needs such as safety, food, clothing, accommodation, subsistence, and access to medical services. The project then considers each individual’s rights and entitlement to support as a potential victim of modern slavery. The key principle of the project is informed choice for the individual. Although the initial support is short and temporary, the long-term impacts for victims can be significant.
Essential role requirements

Training and Projects Officer
Location: The role is based at the Trust’s office in West Berkshire with a minimum of three days per week expected to be worked at our Newbury office. Flexible working arrangements are available with the understanding that this must meet the objectives of the charity and requirements of the role.

Purpose
This is an interesting and important position at the Trust, with the postholder taking responsibility for a range of administrative and project management tasks supporting our Education programme, working to both the Education Project Manager and the Trust’s Head of Programmes.
Our Education Programme is our body of charitable activity delivering training and resources appropriate for schools, colleges and universities, often working with education institutions to create a whole school/college approach to promote good mental health in students and staff alike.
The postholder will be the first point of contact for our training team, enabling our mental health training delivery to take place. There will be opportunities to play a key role in monitoring and evaluation, and obtain a good understanding of the sector. This is a key role in ensuring the Trust and its activities are serviced with robust, reliable and up-to-date evidence and information.
You’ll need to be confident in dealing with the charity’s delivery partners and beneficiaries, both over the telephone and face to face. You’ll enjoy working with and supporting our trainer and office teams, and be super organised and proactive. You’ll manage a varied workload, prioritising tasks as necessary, and will be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people at all levels. We have a small office team, and the successful applicant will need to be a flexible team player.
Key responsibilities and duties
- Work closely with and provide administrative support to the Education Programme.
- Support trainers with the day-to-day running of online and face-to-face courses and maintain effective communication links with the freelance trainers. The postholder is the primary office contact for the training team.
- Liaise with freelance trainers to provide logistical and technical support in the day-to-day delivery of training, Charlie Waller Trust (CWT) conferences and open access webinars.

The role

As well as working within a team of 4 other MarComms colleagues, you will be working closely with colleagues across the ACU, such as the Senior Communications and PR Officer, colleagues from within the Commonwealth Scholarship Alumni team, the Commonwealth Scholarship Programmes team, and the ACU Programmes team, to help promote the programmes, grants, and projects run across the ACU.
The postholder will be advised by the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager of the priorities for the role over the year, including compilation, copyediting, and visual editing of the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission’s (CSC’s) Annual Report, two Common Knowledge magazine editions, assistance with 65th Anniversary campaign activities, CSC and ACU website updates, a regular programme of mailings, and support with general Scholarship and programme promotion over social media.

You will need:
- Excellent content compilation, copywriting, and copyediting skills, including writing for (and understanding of) different audiences and channels, and sensitivity for different cultural contexts, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams to fulfil joint objectives.
- Experience of editing and proofreading content for publications, such as reports and/or magazines.
- Experience of working with external suppliers and internal stakeholders on the production of publications, including commissioning content and working to production deadlines.
- Experience of producing and uploading digital content for multiple platforms and channels, e.g. websites, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.
- Experience of achieving impact, engagement, and conversion through multichannel marketing and/or communications campaigns.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines.

Children North East is a growing charity, working to ensure that all babies, children and young people have the opportunity to grow up happy and healthy. The charity as a whole has been through a transformative restructure and due to this transformation the charity has grown substantially since 2019. Our Operational area will be led by two Directors an Operations Director and an Operations Development Director.
The current Operations Director has now been appointed internally as the Operations Development Director, this role will focus on system change including research, data, growth and further our development on specific pieces of work. This will include growing the demographics of children we work with to help us to meet their needs, changing reactionary work into intervention work and will lead on the following:
• CNE voice work – supporting babies children and young people to have a voice in the work that we do at CNE.
• Developing, implementing and leading on our training offer – in house online packages.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Work with the Community and Events Manager to implement Challengers Community and Events income strategy to a high standard.

Main purpose and scope of Role
