A volunteer opportunity has opened for a talented Illustrator to join our mental health startup, Running Mammals. Responsibilities
- Craft empathetic, visually sensitive illustrations tailored to mental health topics.

- Collaborate closely with UX/Product Designers and Graphic Designers to support the app’s user experience.
- Translate complex emotions and concepts into user-friendly visuals, supporting accessibility and compassion.
- Manage projects: from initial sketches to final assets, incorporating feedback and ensuring timely delivery.
Key Requirements
- Proficient in digital illustration tools like Procreate (or other industry-recognised tools).

Main Duties and Responsibilities
· Develop responsive and adaptive website, ensuring optimization for mobile devices and cross-browser compatibility
· Work closely with web designers to match visual design intent and to perfect site aesthetics
· Ensure website meets usability and accessibility web standards
· Test and improve website functionality and performance over time
· Put in place a robust backup and recovery procedure
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
· 3+ years experience as a Senior Web Developer
· Excellent knowledge of WordPress, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
· A keen eye for design and detail, and passion for building modern and elegant websites powered by WordPress
· A strong understanding of optimisation for mobile devices, cross-browser compatibility, responsive web design, and general web functions and standards
· Good experience building website pages from scratch in WordPress
· Ability to work both with autonomy and as part of a team
· Available to volunteer at least 7-10 hours a week
· Ability to actively take initiative and help set things up in a start-up environment
· Ability to actively seek and give input in a collaborative team environment
· A committed team player with good communication skills.
Desirable
· Experience working in an early stage star-tup and gone through a scaling phase
· Passion for the start-up life and comfortable in a role with a little ambiguity

We are Buttons & Bubbles CIC. We work to increase inclusion and representation across society for disabled families.We have several different services including inclusive characters, sensory workshops, resources, events, advocacy and more.

Are you looking for a volunteering opportunity that you can do in your own time and without having to leave the comfort of the sofa? Do you have a good imagination? Are you interested in graphic design? Or have an artistic flair?
We’ve created ‘Bubble World’ which is home to our characters. We have had some graphics made for ‘Bubble World’ but we would love more! We can then use them and others such as little Santa Hats, Pumpkins and Easter Eggs to keep creating our resources and activity packs.
What do we expect?
- Be willing to undertake our training programme which will be done virtually and at a time to suit you.
