We are looking for a part time Membership Officer to work 2 or 3 days a week, alongside our existing part time Membership Officer. Together, they will lead on administrative support of our membership functions. Reporting to our Office and Events Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the administrative functions that support the smooth running and ongoing success of the organisation around membership.
This is an interesting and varied role that acts as a first 'point of contact’ for the people we work with (such as Member Institutions, Registrants and queries from members of the public), as well as managing the administrative aspect of memberships, such as setting up new Registrants on our CRM system. The role also involves longer term project work such as overseeing the CPD audit and improving and growing membership processes.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with previous administrative experience who are keen to join our small and friendly staff team.

Job Title: Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist
Reports To: Research Lead with mentorship provided by Prof Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester
Salary: up to £39,500 per annum
Contract: Full time, Fixed Term Contract until October 2027 (potential of extension, subject to the availability of project funding).
Hours: A full working week is 35 hours and we offer flexibility with hours.

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.
Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.
This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:
- rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
- with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
- manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
- co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
- create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.
The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.
Skills and experience
Essential
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or a relevant field
- Experience conducting rapid evidence reviews relating to teaching, learning and assessment
- Experience of teaching in schools in the UK or internationally
- Experience producing content for a range of audiences including teachers, school leaders and policymakers
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of effective, evidence-informed approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment
- Experience developing and managing an online portfolio of events and resources
- Experience managing and chairing meetings, including the production of written summaries of discussions for a wide range of audiences
Desirable
- A PhD in a relevant field
- Experience presenting complex information in a concise, graphic format
- Experience working with Canva, InDesign or other graphic design software
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience writing grant applications

Reporting to: Service Manager
Location: Baca office, Cambridge, England with regular travel to locations where Baca’s services are delivered.

About the role
Richmond AID have 3 main advice teams: Information Navigation, Benefits Advice and Money Advice. We also administer a number of grants on behalf of local grant giving charities and the local authority. Our teams are busier than ever and this role will play a vital part in supporting the team with administration tasks including; taking client enquiries from the phone, website and email and uploading them to our database, scanning and photocopying.
You will spend your time working directly with clients with a range of physical, sensory and mental health impairments to help them to fill in grant allocation forms and other forms and helping people to know their rights. You will also support our advice teams administratively; arranging appointments, sending emails and letters and uploading information to our database.
You will receive training in a range of advice areas (housing, health and social care, benefits, transport and travel) as well as other relevant topics such as various mental health conditions, managing challenging behaviour, professional boundaries, and case management. You will be supported by a friendly team of experienced advisers who will have the opportunity to shadow and you will also have access to a range of external training and development opportunities.
You will need to have clear written and oral communication skills as you will need to make phone calls and write emails and letters to clients as well as providing progress updates to the team.
You will work closely with our experienced advice team and we can offer opportunities for training and development in a range of areas including social care, housing and benefits to support you on your journey to becoming and advisor.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have solid administration and organisational skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. You will have strong communication skills across all levels and will be a real team player with a genuine interest in supporting disabled people.
An interest in developing advice skills in essential and experience or a background in advice and information will be an advantage.
You will have excellent communication and IT skills, administrative skills and be fully competent on Microsoft applications. You will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Your contribution to the team
Your role as Project MEL and Grants Officer will be critical in achieving the goals of the Projects Team to deliver high-quality support in monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), project and grant management to colleagues across the organisation. You will support the Senior Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer to roll-out innovative approaches to how the organisation captures impact, shares success stories and learns from one another. You will support colleagues to understand compliance requirement of grants and to identify, assess and realign projects to ensure delivery against these requirements and project objectives. You will play a vital role to ensure the uptake and usability of our organisational grants and project management platform called PEBI (Project Ecosystem for Business Intelligence).
What you can expect in a typical day
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support project and organisational MEL 50%
• Support colleagues to design log frames, indicators and results framework for projects and how to align them with global indicators;
• Support colleagues to develop, improve and contextualise data collection and reporting tools and methodologies;
• Participate in project start-up meetings and support colleagues to develop project M&E plans;
• Plan and conduct internal reviews of key projects to support organisational learning and improvement of future projects;
• Review data and information gathered either through systems (such as PEBI) or processes (such as Annual Reflection Process, cross-organisational meetings etc) to provide feedback to colleagues and feed into organisational learning;

The Role
We’re looking for experienced, energetic and confident freelance facilitators to help us deliver our tried-and-tested activities — from team-building and orienteering to improv games, problem-solving challenges, debates, archery, and axe throwing. We don’t expect anyone to be experienced in all of these - every member of our team of freelancers has their own areas of expertise and choose to be deployed on particular activities that most suit their skills and experience.
You’ll be working with a diverse range of schools, from primary and prep schools, right through secondary to sixth forms, facilitating sessions to inspire teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership.
You’ll always be working on a day under the guidance of one of our Founder Directors, Tom and Alex.
Important to know
We are looking for freelancers who may be available for work and who fit our ethos, values and activities to whom we can offer as and when it comes in.
We couldn’t do what we do without our core team of trusted freelancers. We look after those we work with by offering regular training and observation opportunities so they can expand their repertoire.
However, joining our pool of freelancers will not involve a fixed contract of employment or a guarantee of regular work. Our existing freelancers work with us anywhere between 3 - 15 days per/year. The first year of this role will include some enhanced responsibilities, providing maternity cover for the Project Manager role from October 2025.
The role will involve attendance at events around the UK, the post holder will work out of the main office in Castaway House and remotely. Training in the internal systems of the Naval Children’s Charity will be provided and access to other relevant training as required.
This is a full time role of 35 hours per week which may need to be worked over 7 days/weekends to accommodate attendance at events as required. There is local and long-distance travel by appropriate means to support volunteers and community activities/events across the UK. This role involves a significant number of weekend events.

PROJECT MANAGER SUPPORT (TO INLCUDE INTITIAL MATERNITY COVER RESPONSIBILITIES)
Life Chances

Liaise with partners to secure 2026 delivery dates for some project areas

Promotion of opportunities and processing of applications for key periods (February, Easter and Summer 2026)

Evaluation of any opportunities taking place during the cover period

Liaising with partners of the Charity’s Tier 2 projects and delivery of events

Reporting data to CEO/SLT for Greenwich funding
Youth Council
-
Monthly online meetings with group and related administrative tasks to schedule dates/attendance and meeting focus

Work with the Youth council to raise awareness of the support and recruitment of young people

In person delivery of annual events
Wellbeing Packs

Oversight of requests for wellbeing packs, liaison with Office Administrator and Database Administrator for processing

Monthly/regular stock checks and reorders

Review of the process and packs toward the end of the financial year, ready for refresh and/or development
COMMUNITY EVENTS / OUTREACH

Plan and implement a programme of attendance at external events such as Naval Charity Days
-
Maintaining and updating an events calendar for assessment of attendance by the Charity

Ensure event checklist is completed for approval of costs involved with each event and signed off by HOO or CEO.

Arrange site for charity gazebo.

Ensure manned throughout event by postholder and volunteers.

Put together all items required for event.

Ensure appropriate risk assessments/licences in place.

Ensure compliance with health & safety throughout the event.

Publicise events using Social Media and website

Children’s competitions (such as Art or seasonal) to be run to increase awareness into schools

Work with Project Manager on events relating to Life Chances, Youth Council, promotion of the Charity at a senior level as requested by CEO

Support the caseworking team in their community outreach programme with resources and liaison with areas as required. This programme focuses on areas containing a high population of Naval personnel to include (but not limited to) Culdrose, Yeovilton, Plymouth and Devon.

Reach out to families through attendance at community events, presentations to schools and other organisations.
VOLUNTEERS & FUNDRAISING

Develop, manage, train and steward a network of regional volunteers and individual fundraisers, particularly in areas with strong Naval presence.

Maintain regular contact with volunteers, keeping them informed and engaged with the activities of the Charity

Support Knitting volunteers across the UK, research new groups and organisations. This includes sending out patters on request, creating requests to send to the social media team and maintaining records of knitters.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Knowledge and skills commensurate with role to include:
Essential

Educated to A Level or equivalent standard or above

Experience of working with a charity or not-for-profit organisation including

recruiting and managing volunteers

proven track record of community fundraising including Fundraising Regulations and Gift Aid

Excellent time management stills, ability to work on own initiative, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards

IT literate and with knowledge of MS Office 365 and database recording systems

In possession of a full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle.
