Our ambitions

Hidden Leaders currently works with 20 schools across London and the South East (and dozens more in our other organisations above). Word is spreading about us and we are growing in size, and we anticipate delivering even more sessions in schools in the coming years. And so we are looking to expand our small, trusted expert group of freelance facilitators to help us deliver this impact.

The Role

We’re looking for experienced, energetic and confident freelance facilitators to help us deliver our tried-and-tested activities — from team-building and orienteering to improv games, problem-solving challenges, debates, archery, and axe throwing. We don’t expect anyone to be experienced in all of these - every member of our team of freelancers has their own areas of expertise and choose to be deployed on particular activities that most suit their skills and experience.

You’ll be working with a diverse range of schools, from primary and prep schools, right through secondary to sixth forms, facilitating sessions to inspire teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership.

You’ll always be working on a day under the guidance of one of our Founder Directors, Tom and Alex. 

Important to know

We are looking for freelancers who may be available for work and who fit our ethos, values and activities to whom we can offer as and when it comes in. 

We couldn’t do what we do without our core team of trusted freelancers. We look after those we work with by offering regular training and observation opportunities so they can expand their repertoire. 

However, joining our pool of freelancers will not involve a fixed contract of employment or a guarantee of regular work. Our existing freelancers work with us anywhere between 3 - 15 days per/year. Such work offers very useful supplementary income alongside other roles at other organisations (or their own) rather than a core income. Our busiest times of year are:

September — where we deliver team building/bonding days for new year groups

May, June and July — where we deliver similar days but usually as part of school activity weeks

We anticipate further growth at these times, and also are looking to expand our offer to more indoor/lower cost days in the Autumn/Spring term. And to deliver these we will need more staff!

Responsibilities

• Facilitate pre-designed Hidden Leaders sessions and activities in schools

• Engage and motivate participants, creating an inclusive and supportive environment

• Brief, instruct, and ensure safety during practical activities

• Encourage reflection and discussion to link activities to personal and team development

• Adapt delivery style to suit different audiences, group sizes, and abilities

• Take care of activity equipment and ensure activity areas are safe and ready to use

• Represent Hidden Leaders professionally in schools

• Adhere to our high delivery standards and health safety and our strict safeguarding obligations at all time
   

We need you to have…

• Significant experience facilitating group activities with young people (e.g. classroom teaching, team-building, outdoor education, public-speaking training, drama/improv, youth work)

• Confident communicator and able to deliver exceptionally engaging sessions to groups of up to 30 to all ages from KS2 to Sixth Form

• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable arriving at a school to help us set up at 8am, and be packing down with us afterwards

• A big sense of fun and joy in what you do - we don’t do dry

• The ability to relate to young people in a way that isn’t “teacherly” but at the same time firm and in-command

• Strong situational awareness and ability to manage group safety effectively

• Flexible, adaptable, and able to think on your feet to differentiate activities in the moment

• Willingness and ability to travel to different locations across the South East

A bonus if you have…

• (For outdoor education experts): Outdoor activity instruction qualifications (e.g., Archery GB Leader / Outdoor First Aid / Lowland Leader)

• Have any experience leading or co-leading events or expeditions and so be able to step into the shoes of Day Director if we need you to (and obviously be remunerated accordingly)

• Any experience running activities not listed above, but that you’d think schools would love as part of our Team Challenge days

• Are confident speaking in front of larger groups such as school assemblies or full year-group briefings

For a large, global organisation, we are recruiting a Head of Group FP&A. Leading a team of 4, the Head of Group FP&A sits at the heart of Group and Global Finance, and leads Group MI, Reporting, Planning and Forecasting across the organisation. The role oversees cash and balance sheet forecasting for the Group and Subsidiaries and ensures insightful reporting to external stakeholders. Main Duties:

Main purpose of the job

A fantastic opportunity has emerged to join Bond’s communications team, as its new Media Adviser.

This position will add capacity to Bond’s media function to help build Bond’s media presence, support the delivery of Bond’s strategy and support the sector in championing humanitarian assistance and development that works to help those who need it the most. This post has two main purposes. Firstly, to coordinate and engage with communications and media specialists across the sector to address shared issues and achieve shared objectives together. Secondly, to maximise opportunities to achieve regular media coverage to help deliver Bond’s strategic objectives and services in appropriate sector press, in support of Bond’s strategy, positioning and reputation.

This role will work collaboratively across the organisation and the NGO sector and will help deliver a planned, strategic, consistent, and integrated approach to our media work.

Main responsibilities

Press office (30%)

• Act as prime contact for enquiries from press or other media representatives
• Identify matters on which collective action/comment from Bond and/or the wider sector may or may not be required
• Ensure consistent messaging around Bond’s media work and campaigns or sector initiatives in which Bond is engaged
• Write and sell-in collective letters, statements, opinion pieces, features, and responses to print, online and broadcast media
• Updating Bond’s press lists while developing and maintaining good relationships with key journalists in relevant media
• Record and report media coverage of Bond and parliamentary stakeholders, using Bond’s media monitoring platform to track coverage
• Use Bond’s media monitoring platform to track government announcements and parliamentary stakeholder activity
• Monitor and update the Bond team on relevant news stories and media trends
• Support the organisation of background briefings with journalists, press conferences and oversee media interviews
• Support media briefings to the chief executive and other Bond spokespeople around media interviews

• Build media group to ensure it is up to date and includes organisations of all sizes and remits and accurately reflects our membership
• Update media group with Bond’s reactive media lines and share information about key government and parliamentary announcements
•  Share media coverage with Bond’s media group and Policy and Lobbying group when relevant.

Leading Bond’s media and PR work (20%)

• Ensure regular coverage of Bond’s work and services in appropriate sector media to support delivery of Bond’s organisational strategy
• Work closely with colleagues across Bond to develop and implement media and PR outputs for Bond products, services and marketing.
• Work closely with the corporate team to implement media and PR outputs for corporate partnerships and events. 
• Working with the Head of Media and Communication to develop Bond’s crisis communications plan to anticipate, prepare for and implement responses to crisis situations, or other situations where there is risk of damage to our brand and reputation.

News gathering and editorial (20%)

• Update the news section of Bond’s website to capture current stories and issue affecting the humanitarian and development sector.
• Source thought leadership blogs for distribution through various Bond channels and external media, including news stories, blogs, features and social media items
• Source opportunities to share Bond’s media coverage via Bond’s different channels including social media and in relevant Bond working groups
• Manage the editorial calendar recording key global dates and events and making the wider team aware of editorial and media opportunities around these dates.
• Provide editorial support to the team as and when necessary, including writing relevant blogs for the sector.

Other:

• To perform such other responsibilities as may be required from time to time in order to achieve the objectives of the Communications and Member Services Team and the organisation as a whole.

What you’ll do

You will lead the Postgraduate Certificate (Pg Cert) in Leadership for CYP Mental Health Services, ensuring its successful design, delivery and development. You will manage the curriculum in line with NHS England’s Leadership National Curriculum and UCL’s academic standards, oversee teaching and assessment, and ensure the programme remains financially and academically viable. • Qualifications: PhD/professional doctorate in field of child mental health or a recognised qualification in a core child mental health profession (e.g. psychology, social work, educational psychology).

• Knowledge: understanding of the national CYP IAPT programme and challenges/opportunities in child and young people’s mental health services;

Key details

Hours: Part time: 7 hours per week. Monday to Friday to be agreed and discussed with manager. Must be available to work on the 12 days during the year that the course runs (currently on Tuesdays).

Salary: £67,830 per annum FTE, plus 6% contributory pension scheme.

Location: Hybrid working (a mixture of onsite and home/remote working). Staff are working onsite for at least 20% of their working hours at our London site (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).

● Develop implementation plans to support Shine’s communications strategy to build authority in the cancer support space.

● Responsible for developing the Shine narrative, brand voice, and talking points to support external stories and campaigns, and to co-create fundraising messages with the Fundraising Manager and Fundraising Consultant.

● Responsible for all external communications with media including national and regional outlets, print and broadcast, digital channels and titles read by healthcare professionals.

● Supervision of the social media output from Shine, ensuring consistency with the overall communications plan. 

●       Ability to represent Shine at external stakeholder meetings.

●    Working closely with the Shine team to raise Shine’s profile through advocacy activities in the cancer community and healthcare professionals.

Person Specification

Essential skills:

● Ability to develop multi-channel communications plans, using social, digital and traditional media platforms

● Knowledge of UK health media including health correspondents and reporters for national news outlets (print & TV and radio)

● Experience of working with media databases and press release distribution services
