Job description

Are you an experienced Christian leader who has led teams and partnerships in cross-cultural contexts? Are you a creative thinker who enjoys working within a team to support the delivery of high-quality mission work in diverse settings? Do you have a strong desire to work with the Global Church, to learn and share learning from it, and grow in understanding of how we remain faithful to our calling to make Christ known in some of the toughest places on Earth? Do you bring a passion and expertise within the context of mission that could add value to the work of BMS as it is expressed in and beyond the Euro-MENA region? If this is you, you may be just the person we are looking for.

BMS World Mission is seeking to appoint an Overseas Team Leader for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, who will play a key role in designing and implementing BMS’ strategy in the region, along with colleagues in and beyond the Overseas Team. They will be responsible for the line management and pastoral care of mission workers in at least five countries, as well as managing partnerships with organisations in the region. They will work closely with members of the Personnel Team, who are also part of the Department for World Mission at BMS.

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to think missiologically and strategically on a range of contemporary aspects of mission theory and practice pertinent to the region.
  • Have demonstrated excellent pastoral and line-management skills for inspiring intercultural teams towards fruitful practices, in line with BMS strategy in difficult and complex mission contexts.
  • Will have significant experience in cross-cultural ministry contexts.
  • Be highly relational with excellent communication skills within diverse cultural settings, and have the ability to work well within a range of teams. They will be able to think critically, and develop solutions to complex challenges within a busy department.

The successful candidate will be a practicing Christian in full support of the BMS Vision and Mission Statement. This is a Specific Occupational Requirement related to the nature of the post.
