The Team

Part of the Philanthropy Team, comprised of individuals focused on major giving, prospect research and trusts and foundations. In addition, the role will work closely with the corporate partnerships team and community and events team. 

Key Relationships

Prospect research colleagues; Head of Philanthropy, major giving and trusts and foundations fundraisers; funding team; community and events; key stakeholders across the charities and hospital trust. 

Overall Purpose of the Role

The Prospect Research Manager will play an integral role in managing the growth and development of the prospect pipeline to enable the fundraising ambitions of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity.  
 

This role will make a significant contribution towards increasing our income by ensuring that the best potential supporters are identified, researched and allocated in collaboration with the high value fundraising teams.  

This role works across all areas of the team’s remit to deliver strategic insight on our highest-level prospects, using data science techniques to evaluate performance, spot trends and opportunities, including due diligence research, build prospect pipelines for priority fundraising projects, and work directly with fundraisers to manage prospect portfolios.  
 

Our fundraising department has recently entered a period of ambitious growth and will shortly be launching a significant capital campaign for our children’s hospital. We are investing in this pivotal role as we know it will be fundamental to our success in this campaign and beyond. This is a great opportunity for a prospect research professional who wishes to join an ambitious fundraising team at an incredibly exciting moment. 
 

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver timely and strategic prospect research and intelligence which meets the needs of our fundraising team.  
• Conduct fundraising market research, from larger prospect finding projects to prospect ratings work, donor profiles, networks research, competitor analysis and occasional work on cultivation event briefings.  
• Work closely with the Senior Prospect Research Manager to ensure the team’s workplan is updated regularly and work assigned is carried out to deadline, sharing any capacity issues or challenges where they arise. 
• Carry out due diligence research on prospective donors, producing thorough and objective reports which support fundraising decisions and ensure adherence to our gift acceptance procedures and are agreed with the legal team  
• Identify networks of clinicians and stakeholders to assess the opportunities for reaching new potential donors.  
• Work with the Senior Prospect Development Manager to undertake work arising from portfolio reviews to clean fundraising portfolios.  
• Build strong cross-team working relationships, meeting with fundraisers on a regular basis to discuss needs, manage expectations and gain feedback.  
• Develop an in-depth understanding of the Raiser’s Edge database which will include regular data mining activity, building complex queries and exports, and the creation of constituent records.  
• Advocate best practice in the recording and processing of prospect data on Raiser’s Edge, ensuring data is accurate, relevant and processed as per the team’s Data Protection Policy and in line with The Data Protection Act 2018/ the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018. This will include working with the data team to identify data challenges and appropriate solutions for improving prospect data quality and cleanliness.  
• Work with the Senior Prospect Research Manager to develop annual plans which best support Fundraisings priorities.  
• Network regularly with sector peers to share best practice and generate insight on the latest developments in prospect research.  
• Alongside the Senior Prospect Research Manager, oversee prospect identification for priority fundraising projects and support team members in developing projects for prospecting.  
• Proactively engage with market intelligence which supports the identification of prospects and philanthropic trends, and highlights opportunities for future fundraising growth. This would include regular assessment of insight on transformational donations made worldwide, high net worth individuals and philanthropic trends. 

Working Environment:

The post holder should expect to: 
 

• Work in a hybrid hot desk environment, generally working 2 days a week in the London office and three from home.  
• Be responsible for the input and maintenance of databases and files relevant to the post requirements.  
• Will occasionally be required to attend events in the evening and at weekends.

About the RSPCA

Founded in 1824, we have been saving animals for almost 200 years and are proud to be the oldest welfare charity. The RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch

The RSPCA Buckinghamshire South Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.

The main activity of our branch is specialised in the rehoming of small animals including cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs and hamsters. The animals come into our care from various sources such as those which are rescued, abandoned, neglected or given up by their owners. Each animal is medically and characteristically assessed to ensure it is fit and well before being available for rehoming. This all costs money, and could not be achieved without your support. 

Job Summary

This role is responsible for the development, implementation and operation of appropriate financial and business management tools to support the day-to-day business and financial administration of the Branch.

Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Executive Office (CEO), you will be expected to make use of the full capability of the Branch’s existing software systems (Google Workspace, and Quick Books) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery and develop management information to aid the Trustees & CEO in decision making.

You will be responsible for all financial management across the charity. This includes bookkeeping; financial statements; financial planning; financial policies, processes and controls and budgeting. 

You must ensure that all activities are carried out in compliance with current legislation, Branch and Society policy, relevant Health & Safety regulations and any associated statutory or legislative requirements.

Note: Branch targets and budgets are agreed on an annual basis and these will inform the personal targets agreed at the annual performance review. Progress towards personal targets will be reviewed at regular one-to-one meetings with your line manager.

This role is home based, with occasional travel across South Bucks.

Principal Accountabilities

Financial Management & Operations

• Support the CEO as a key strategic and operational partner, acting as second-in-command and deputising in their absence where appropriate.

• Maintain all financial records and accounting systems (the Branch currently uses Quick Books accounting software), registers and statistics as required by the CEO & Branch Trustees.

• Work with the CEO and Branch Trustees to develop financial plans and an annual financial budget.

• Maintain close oversight of the branch’s budget in collaboration with the CEO, proactively identifying and addressing any discrepancies, overspend, or unplanned financial activity to ensure effective financial control and informed decision-making.

• Process, monitor, record and manage all receipts & payments to/from the Branch in accordance with the agreed procedures and in liaison with the appropriate staff and volunteers including weekly banking, cash handling, invoice creation and processing, Branch payments (including those made via credit cards and petty cash) and account reconciliation.

• Monitor, review and reconcile monthly receipts & payments on the Quick Books accounting system.

• Produce monthly management accounts which include bank reconciliations, balance sheets, Branch/departmental profit & loss statements, departmental comparisons and performance against budget and such other financial reports/management information as may be required including monthly reporting to the board of trustees.

• Coordinate bank accounts across the charity, including set-up and balance management.

• Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.

• Prepare annual financial statements and coordination of annual audit review.

• Support the staff and volunteers with day-to-day financial operations and ensuring departmental financial records are maintained and that monies received or expended are accounted for correctly.

• Work with the RSPCA Society National team regarding legacies, submission of care contribution funds, renewals of insurances etc.

• Ensure that strict protocols are followed for cash handling and that unbanked cash remains within the insured limit for cash held at each premises.

• Liaise with the Branch’s payroll provider to ensure staff hours are submitted and salary payments processed on a monthly basis and within the appropriate timescale.

• Process all staff and volunteer expenses in a timely manner.

• Manage all bookkeeping processes and functions, including the asset register, ensuring annual accounts are produced no later than the end of March each year.

• Develop, implement and maintain appropriate financial administrative procedures and processes.

Business Administration

• Responsible for day-to-day financial administrative support for the CEO and Trustees.

• Ensure that all administrative paperwork, including external correspondence is processed in accordance with Branch and Society procedures, including completion of all appropriate records for insurance and risk management purposes.

• Ensure financial data processing, retention and destruction conforms to the relevant policies such as GDPR.

• Ensure regulatory and legislative compliance of financial charity policies.

• Work closely with relevant operational staff to ensure appropriate responses are issued to all enquiries whether from members, supporters & volunteers, RSPCA colleagues or the general public.

• Liaise with staff and volunteers to facilitate the ordering of materials, supplies and equipment for the effective operation of the Branch, ensuring budgetary controls are maintained at all times.

• Work with the CEO and other staff to manage relevant licences, vendor relationships, service agreements and invoicing.

• Work with staff and volunteers across the whole charity on financial processes and controls.

Fundraising & Donations

• Identify, assess, and apply for appropriate grants and funding streams to maximise income for the branch, ensuring applications are timely, well-prepared, and aligned with funder criteria to support the branch’s strategic and operational objectives.

• Ensure that all donations (financial or otherwise) are acknowledged in a timely manner, receipts are issued for financial donations and the banking of all funds raised.

• Responsible for the accurate recording and banking of the funds raised.

• Develop, and manage relationships across relevant stakeholder groups, both within and outside the charity.

Gift Aid

• Ownership of the Gift Aid process.

General

• Attend meetings and training courses as required.

• Undertake such other duties as directed from time-to-time by your line manager.

Essential skills, qualifications and experience:

• A finance qualification or working towards level 3 AAT or ACCA with proven experience in charity financial operations.

• Good general level of education.

• Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting and compliance.

• Demonstrable experience of managing small to medium size budgets (circa £400,000) & accounting systems (ideally with experience of Quick Books software).

• Proven experience of cash handling and financial management procedures. 

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

• Proven ability to work to tight deadlines, be proactive and work autonomously.

• Proven IT literacy including use of business software and accounting packages (including Quickbooks), and Google Workspace.

The Senior Philanthropy and Partnership Manager is a new role, bringing the staff team to eight. We are looking for someone experienced, ambitious and creative to be our first Senior Philanthropy and Partnership Manager, to drive our fundraising strategy, create new opportunities and relationships, lead the cultivation and stewardship of new trust funders, and develop a new major donor fundraising programme.

In this role you will have strategic accountability for fundraising and overseeing progress towards fundraising targets, working with the team and the Board to generate ideas and deliver proposals for raising funds, and for highlighting our impact to potential donors. Founded in 1936, we now have over 48,000 members worldwide, representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines working in private and public sectors.

In Europe we have c. 5,500 members. We have a particularly strong presence in the major European real estate markets with National Councils in 15 countries across Europe, including e.g., France, Germany, Spain, and United Kingdom.  ULI’s main revenue sources come from individual and corporate membership, in addition to corporate sponsorship for a wide range of activities ULI delivers, including events, research and mission driven programmes such as C Change or UrbanPlan.  To advance its mission priorities, ULI is aiming to diversify and grow its funding sources and especially focus on philanthropic donations from individuals, corporates and foundations, in addition to grants from other local and European institutions. 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of Philanthropic Fundraising will serve as the cornerstone of administrative support for ULI’s philanthropic fundraising initiatives in Europe. The role will report to the Vice President, Business Development & Membership on a day-to-day basis and work closely with the Chair of the ULI Charitable Trust and CEO ULI Europe. 

The role will have a functional reporting line to the Chief (Philanthropic) Fundraising Officer. This position requires excellent relationship management, organisational and communication skills. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide administrative and management support to the philanthropic fundraising initiatives of the ULI Charitable Trust (and the CT Board of Trustees / ULIF Europe Committee) and ULI Europe, including fundraising campaigns, processing collections (through ULI CT or ULI Europe) and preparing donor reports in cooperation with the ULI Finance team in the US.  
• Oversee and coordinate design and development of marketing collateral, presentations supporting fundraising campaigns, in collaboration with the ULI Europe Marketing and Communications team. 
• Collaborate closely with team members of the ULI Europe business Development and Membership team, in addition to ULI’s country directors and governance director to support the planning of, and coordinate the implementation of the European philanthropic fundraising strategy determined by ULI Europe (namely by the CT Board of Trustees / ULIF Europe Committee), focusing on both donations from individuals based in Europe and donations from European philanthropic foundations and government programmes;  
• Work with and manage relationships with individual and institutional donors, in close collaboration with the corporate accounts team, CEO, ULI Europe and the Chair of the Charitable Trust / Chair of the ULIF Europe Committee; 
• Work in close collaboration with Research & Advisory Services and ESG Programmes colleagues, to identify and research (third party) philanthropic funding and grant opportunities and assist in the preparation of applications for philanthropic funding from (third party) foundations and government agencies; 
• Coordination of proposal writing for potential foundation funding, in close collaboration with the research, marketing communications and legal and compliance teams.
• Set up and implement application, reporting and compliance process for philanthropic gifts for ULI Europe. 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• At least 6-8 years’ experience working in a similar role. 
• Experience working in an international business environment. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

This role is part of the Global Fundraising Team of over 50 staff. You will be responsible for planning and managing a digital fundraising portfolio including paid and organic advertising, Shop and eCommerce products, and Community and Events fundraising.

We provide social prescribing support and health and wellbeing coaching to patients for Brent GPs. In 2024-5 we helped over 18000 people. We’re a leading partner on the Brent Health Educators Programme. Recently we’ve focused on developing and retaining a much larger staff group, using our data better and improving our marketing.

Brent Mencap offers fantastic free creative and wellbeing activities for people with a learning disability, autism and long-term health conditions. These have flourished since Covid. People love yoga, poetry, singing, gardening, Breathe and Move, self-advocacy, campaigning, awareness raising, CREATE art activities for young people, external trips and parties. Small grants, donations and our reserves fund this while we get longer term funding. Our self-advocates want us to focus on paid employment, youth services and making Brent Council use accessible information properly. People with a learning disability, neurodiversity and their family carers are inclusively supported by social prescribers for advice and by health educators/coaches for health-related matters if needed.
